Item #: SCP-4187
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4187 is contained in Site-613; its growth and boundaries regulated by constant, uninterrupted surveillance through cameras mounted every 30 meters on the barrier that surrounds the site. This barrier is comprised of Polymethyl methacrylate, and stands 3 meters with a width of 30 centimeters. Armed personnel are stationed outside of Site-613 with the purpose of diverting civilian attention, as well as occasionally culling nearby populations of large, avian wildlife. At this time, Site-613 covers an area of approximately [DATA EXPUNGED].
Description: SCP-4187 is a small, abandoned town formerly known as “Jackstown”, located south of ████████████, Utah, United States of America. While it is presumed that SCP-4187 was abandoned sometime between the late 1920s and early 1930s, a hypothesis supported by the prices on a recovered diner menu from Site-613, numerous modern artifacts have been recovered on expeditions including smartphones and hiking boots.
SCP-4187 is covered in a thick, unevenly distributed layer of a substance resembling packing snow. Without proper scientific investigation, the material barely deviants from this description. It registers at the same temperature as partially melted snow, measures at the same density, and is supple with relative ease.
The substance, however, will not melt under any temperature below 200 degrees Celsius, and will evaporate rather than leaving behind moisture when exposed to these conditions.
Prolonged contact between the substance and exposed skin will result in complete numbing of the affected area; lasting a minimum of 24 hours.
Contact lasting longer than 30 minutes will result in what appears to be exponentially severe chemical burns and eventual total corrosion of the subject. This symptom will occur regardless of what protection is being worn; leading to the recommendation that all testing concerning SCP-4187 should occur under a 20-minute time limit. This was discovered when several investigators required double hip disarticulations after exploring Site-613 despite their lower appendages never coming in direct contact with the material.
It is unknown whether or not SCP-4187 increases in mass in response to an input of organic tissue. While organic and ██████████ materials are the only things affected by its corrosive nature, attempts to measure the rate of the substance's expansion in relation to imput have come back inconclusive.
Addendum: Numerous expeditions and experimental trials concerning Site-613 have been approved of in the past, though none are currently ongoing. The last expedition was one led by Dr.Still-Swan Begay; proposed by her as a chance to test the then-held belief that SCP-4187 was encased in a large, unicellular organism of possible Protist relation. Accompanied by an armed small taskforce, approval was granted to airlift the team into the interior of SCP-4187 and have them create a basecamp referred to as Site-613-1 with the use of incendiary devices.
Approximately 18 hours later, the expedition had ceased and Dr.Begay was declared dead along with the rest of the team on ████,████,████.
Although Dr.Begay’s notes were seemingly all destroyed as a result of reckless use of the thermite charges supplied to her, one of her presumed experiments was still up when the following recovery taskforce arrived at Site-613-1.
It is the current belief that Dr.Begay had intended to test whether or not the substance would expand and contort itself in the direction of nutrients through whole chickens suspended in the air at heights of 1,4 and 6 feet. All three were found as pristine skeletons.
An unaffected video camera trap was also found near the bait. While it's visual data was distorted, an MP3 file was able to be salvaged.
The file has a runtime of 6 hours and records screams and incendiary detonations at a time that corresponds to the hour The Foundation had received Dr.Begay's distress signal. Prior to and after this event, faint dialogue can be heard between multiple entities; speaking what appears to be Aramaic.
Because the dialect is some form of Aramaic Creole, further linguistic investigation will need to occur in order to decrypt it.
