Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX’s is to be contained in a spherical chamber. The internal pressure of the containment unit is to be kept as close to a perfect vacuum as technologically possible. The internal temperature of the containment unit is to be kept as close to absolute zero as technically feasible.

Additionally, anything composed of one or more of the elements listed in XXXX.Blacklist is forbidden from entering a twenty (20) meters radius from SCP-XXXX’s containment unit.

External surfaces of walls, floors and ceilings, should be galvanized with a coat of nickel. Internal structures of the facility should be manufactured out of iron where applicable.

Internal conditions of the chamber are to be monitored at all times for signs of fusion reaction. If any such signs are detected, threat level 'E' is to be declared and liquified tin will be dispensed into the containment unit as a cooling measure. Non-essential personnel are to be evacuated immediately, and containment teams prepared.

Should refrigeration of SCP-XXXX become unsustainable, threat level is to be increased to 'D' and followed by the activation of automatic dispensers supplied with crystalline silica dust, regardless of the presence of unprotected staff member, as such every personnel on site not part of a containment team are to be issued an N95 respirator.

SCP-XXXX may develop sunspots onced it reached threat level 'C'. Should this occur, containment teams are advised to retreat to the maximum range of their suppression equipments.

Assigned containment personnel are to be supplied with environmentally sealed suits and complementary heat and radiation resistant overlays as well as protective ocular filters. Supplied mobile C.S.D. dispensing units and low radius Magnetic Prisons are to be used by containment teams in case of containment breach of, respectively, threat level 'C' and 'B'.

Upon the escalation to level 'B', containment teams should enforce a rotation of their manpower to counter the increased physical exhaustion provoked by SCP-XXXX's rapidely increasing gravity as to prevent a degradation of containment efforts that would result from fatigued personnel.

The facility is also equipped with a Pocket Magnetar prototype, to be activated should SCP-XXXX reaches threat level 'A' to prevent XK-class End-of-the-world scenario.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a human sized cloud of gas able to internally produce nuclear fusion. It is not believed to be sapient nor does it visibly reacts to any form of stimuli when dormant.

It has been observed in two (2) distincted states as of now, dormant and active.

In its dormant state, SCP-XXXX poses little danger to its extended surroundings. It usually emits a soft burgundy light and is mostly shapeless. However, while it may look passive, the entity constantly attempts to collect materials to ignite its fusion reaction, and thereby affect anything in an estimated radius of twenty (20) meter around itself.

In its active state, SCP-XXXX will go through a series of stages labeled level 'N', 'E', 'D', 'C', 'B', and lastly level 'A', which is currently theorized. The entity also takes a humanoid shape, subsequently becoming mobile before proceeding to roam its environment seemingly at random. It is believed that this behaviour is a search for nutrition as once it finds such a source, SCP-XXXX tends to focus its attention on it, actively absorbing the researched elements before leaving the crumbling rests behind and moving-on.

SCP-XXXX will also emit ionising radiations in this state while generating its own gravitational and magnetic fields, the latter causing the entity to develop sunspots, which as been observed causing solar flares and on rare occasion, coronal mass ejections. If the entity has any agency on these two events is currently unclear.

When SCP-XXXX’s fusion reaction stops the fused core of the entity will be revealed, only then should it be assumed it has returned to dormancy. Said core will then crumble into a pile of ionized byproducts, leaving a floating luminous nucleus, after which SCP-XXXX will be ready to ignite anew. The duration of this process varies greatly, and was observed taking from 8 minutes to 36 months.

Addendum : XXXX.Blacklist

The following elements are to be exposed as minimally as feasible to SCP-XXXX in order of priority:

  • Hydrogen
  • Helium
  • Carbon
  • Neon
  • Oxygen
  • Silicon

While this list could easily be extended to unrealistic proportions, it was deemed acceptable to limit it to the main fuel sources of the six (6) stellar nucleosynthesis process which powers SCP-XXXX's internal fusion.

Addendum: Threat Level Summary
Annoted by Dr. Gabrielle Florian, Head Researcher of Site-██

Threat level N:

Height: N/A
Core-to-ground: N/A

Core surface temperature: N/A
Floor temperature at ground-zero : N/A

Ambient air at 5 meters : N/A
Ambient air at 10 meters: N/A
Ambient air at 20 meters: N/A

No fusion. SCP-XXXX is inert, and poses very little risks. However it will passively absorb elements it can use for its fusion reaction. Assigned staff members are to monitor the entity for variation in temperature.

NOTE: While the radius is relatively small, anything containing the listed elements from XXXX.Blacklist will be affected. Yes, this includes staff members. Yes, it is a gruesome sight. No, we do not have means of protecting ourselves against this phenomenon other than distance.

Threat level E:

Height: 1.84 meter
Core-to-ground: 1.45 meter

Core surface temperature: < 1,800 C°
Floor temperature at ground-zero : < 261 C°

Ambient air at 5 meters : < 147 C°
Ambient air at 10 meters: N/A
Ambient air at 20 meters: N/A

Early signs of fusion reaction. SCP-XXXX is transiting toward activity. Ambient temperatures are increasing rapidly and the entity is taking a humanoid form. The light it emits also gain in intensity and is taking an orange tint. Liquid tin is introduced as a cooling agent.

NOTE: It should be noted that at this stage, the only point of the fusion triad we still have control over is temperature. This procedure as enjoyed a success rate of 79 % so far, however it does declines in effectiveness with every passing second. Maybe we should investigate the pre-emptive dispense of the coolant?

NOTE²: Definitly not! Required weekly maintenance on the containment unit is problematic enough as it is, no need to worsen my headaches with unnecessary cleanup thank you very much! - Captain Nikandros Baxter, Head of Security, Site-██

Threat level D:

Height: 1.84 - 2.32 meter
Core-to-ground: 1.45 - 1.83 meter

Core surface temperature: 1,800 - 3,700 C°
Floor temperature at ground-zero : 261 - 751 C°

Ambient air at 5 meters : 147 - 531 C°
Ambient air at 10 meters: < 296 C°
Ambient air at 20 meters: < 129 C°

Fusion reaction established. SCP-XXXX is considered active. It takes a deep red tint and is becoming ionized as well as producing a low intensity magnetic field. SCP-XXXX commence its growth.

At this stage the containment unit will melt, and the liquid tin in contact with the entity’s core reaches its boiling point. Silica dust is dispensed by sprinklers across the facility.

NOTE: Thanks to silicon photodisintegration SCP-XXXX can use silica dust as fuel, BUT, thanks to the same process we can sedate it, sort-of. The fusion reaction will turn it into a series of other elements such as argon and calcium, to eventually reach iron which the entity cannot generate energy from. Problem is, if SCP-XXXX previously had access to ‘high-lister’ elements, the effect can be delayed, significantly.

Threat level C:

Height: 2.32 - 2.67 meter
Core-to-ground: 1.83 - 2.11 meter

Core surface temperature: 3,700 - 5,700 C°
Floor temperature at ground-zero : 751 - 1267 C°

Ambient air at 5 meters : 531 - 936 C°
Ambient air at 10 meters: 296 - 582 C°
Ambient air at 20 meters: 129 - 332 C°

SCP-XXXX is generating increasing amount of heat and takes a yellow color. Containment teams are deployed with mobile dispensing equipment to increase the concentration of crystalline silica dust in the ambient air. The entity also produces a localized gravitational anomaly and sunspots can be seen forming and dissolving at regular intervals.

NOTE: If SCP-XXXX reaches this stage, it usually managed to acquire hydrogen or helium, therefore simply introducing silicon in the environment is not enough, which is the reason the containment team will literally flood it with a portable pressure hose full of the stuff, in the hope it triggers the snowball effect to iron.

As for the gravitational anomaly, while fascinating, it does not pose a danger at this stage. However, containment personnel felt accelerated fatigue when near the entity and further measurements demonstrated that, while weak, SCP-XXXX’s gravity does create a pull towards itself.

NOTE²: Request for powered exoskeletons is pending.

Threat level B:

Height: 2.67 - 3.13 meter
Core-to-ground: 2.11 - 2.47 meter

Core surface temperature: 5,700 - 9,700 C°
Floor temperature at ground-zero : 1267 - 2298 C°

Ambient air at 5 meters : 727 - 1535 C°
Ambient air at 10 meters: 434 - 1005 C°
Ambient air at 20 meters: 227 - 611 C°

SCP-XXXX’s fusion is augmenting in intensity. Its color is now becoming white-blue and is attracting matter towards itself while generating ever intensifying tremors in the local environment. The use of Magnetic Cages is authorized.

NOTE: Request to amend containment procedures to authorize the use of Magnetic Cages from Level B to C is pending approval. denied by O5-██ - Failing power grids and solar flares will only work so many times as a cover story Doctor.

Threat level A:

Height: ≥ 3.12 meter
Core-to-ground: ≥ 2.47 meter

Core surface temperature: ≥ 9,700 C°
Floor temperature at ground-zero: ≥ 2298 C°

Ambient air at 5 meters : ≥ 1535 C°
Ambient air at 10 meters: ≥ 1005 C°
Ambient air at 20 meters: ≥ 631 C°

SCP-XXXX reaches critical mass and causes earthquakes of magnitude █ upward from the stress it induces on the local tectonic plates. Use of the PoMAG Device is authorized as a final solution to prevent XK-Class event, end of the world scenario.

Probable termination of SCP-XXXX and all life in an area estimated at ██████ square kilometers around the device as well as the follow-up environmental disaster, are deemed acceptable.

NOTE: All things considered, the Pocket Magnetar, is just a monstrous piece of technology. For a split second, it generates an apocalyptic magnetic pulse that in theory would disintegrate anything inrange of the damn thing, the device included. I wonder, would the people in charge of SCP-682 be interested by the device?

In any case, I’m glad we never had to figure out if Level A is a thing, or maybe we did and the Foundation covered it up. We are pretty damn good at what we do after all.

NOTE²: Yes we are, doctor - O5-██
