SCP-XXXX.

Special Containment Procedures (Archived): Due to its size and location, physical containment of SCP-XXXX is impossible. However, in case SCP-XXXX threatens the existence of human life on Earth, the Foundation satellite array THANATOS can neutralize the anomaly with a concentrated tachyon blast1. The Foundation is also to use the THANATOS array to observe SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 instances, allowing near real-time observation over long distances.

Embedded Foundation agents within the scientific community are to deny its existence and prevent discussion about the anomaly.

Description: SCP-XXXX was a subgiant star located approximately five light years away from Earth at its closest approach. Within the scientific community, it was referred to as HD 140283, or the "Methuselah star". Conventional measures estimate SCP-XXXX to be ~14.5 billion years old, an age older than the current estimated age of the universe.

SCP-XXXX could travel across vast distances of space in a relatively short timeframe2, often to reach star systems with one or more Earth-like terrestrial planets, upon which it would preform an abiogenesis event (termed XXXX-events), ejecting large amounts of anomalous radiation towards the planet, seeding it with microbial life. 80% of XXXX-events were successful, with seeded microorganisms surviving on the planet. SCP-XXXX appeared to have been preforming XXXX-events throughout its long lifespan.

In 20% of successful recorded XXXX-events, signatures of intelligent life and civilizations were later observed on affected planets. These civilizations are referred to as SCP-XXXX-1 instances. Foundation observation of SCP-XXXX-1 instances has shown they can vary wildly, and instances have been recorded to be in various stages of civilization. Attempts at communication are ongoing.

Addendum XXXX-1: Abridged list of SCP-XXXX-1 instances

SCP-XXXX-1 designation Technological Advancement Notes
SCP-XXXX-1-1 Space-faring Type II3 Observation indicates this is a highly advanced civilization that has been around for thousands of years. Colonization is in progress throughout its stellar neighborhood. Species appears to have originated from their planet's vast oceans.
SCP-XXXX-1-2 Agrarian Type 0 Species is likely adapted for their planet's harsh winters. Farming is only capable at the planet's equators. Intelligent life has been around for only several weeks.
SCP-XXXX-1-3 Medieval Type 0 Occupies a temperate planet. Analysis of surface structures indicate a long, winding tunnel of underground cities are present under the crust. Civilization is estimated to have existed for eight months.
SCP-XXXX-1-4 Contemporary Type I Source of small, electromagnetic bursts, indicating the presence of electromagnetic communications. Foundation linguists are currently translating transmissions from SCP-XXXX-1-4. Planet appear to be Earthlike, and the civilization appears to have existed for hundreds of years.

Addendum XXXX-2: Incident Report 12/7/2026

In June 2026, Foundation observation satellites noticed SCP-XXXX travel toward the general direction of Earth. The path of SCP-XXXX indicated it was headed towards Alpha Centauri. On 9/7/2026, the THANATOS array noticed a subtle shift in SCP-XXXX's movement, placing it on a direct path towards Earth. Research suggests that if an XXXX-event were to be preformed on Earth, XK-Class Event is likely to occur.

After multiple days of SCP-XXXX continuing on its Earth-bound path, an emergency O5 Council meeting agreed to neutralize SCP-XXXX using the THANATOS array in accordance with the containment procedures. A few minutes before scheduled neutralization, SCP-XXXX's direction deviated by approximately two degrees, putting it on its previous path towards Alpha Centauri.

Despite this, on 12/7/2026, the process of neutralizing SCP-XXXX began and lasted for two weeks.

Addendum XXXX-3: List of events during neutralization

During its neutralization, SCP-XXXX preformed a series of anomalous events.
Date Event
12/7/2026 SCP-XXXX ceases all movement.
13/7/2026 A series of coronal mass ejections are observed at SCP-XXXX's surface. It lets out a series of high frequency radio bursts best described as "wailing".
15/7/2026 More plasma is expulsed from SCP-XXXX's surface. Wailing ceases, and is replaced by a lower frequency screech.
23/7/2026 SCP-XXXX begins to collapse. It attempts to eject anomalous radiation at the direction of Earth, to no avail.
26/7/2026 SCP-XXXX finishes collapsing into a white dwarf. Screeching briefly becomes far louder, before ceasing completely. It is redesignated as neutralized.
