The most noticeable breakthroughs regarding SCP-4373's chemistry are the following:
- Three electrons are found within each orbital of an atom.
- The periodic table of elements is entirely different. [See Addendum SCP-4373-B]
- Subshells of the atom have increased electrons, with 3 in the first, 9 in the second, 15 in the third, and 21 in the fourth. Lewis Dots would change from a diagram with 2 dots on each side as a maximum to three dots per side.
A remade version of a drawing from Dr. H███████ after observing the nature of SCP-4373’s electrons.
- Since electrons have either a positive or negative spin per orbital, the third has no spin and is in every possible location at every possible time with both a positive and negative spin. It makes for bonding to be much faster when three electrons are involved.
- Electricity is extremely powerful due to an abundance of unnecessary electrons.
- The positive and negative spin cancel each other, making the orbital stable. Since it technically only takes two electrons to neutralize an orbital, the neutral spinning electron is not necessary to stabilize an element or compound. Because of this, the elements in groups 9A and 12A would be unreactive. Group 1A would be very reactive, as would group 8A.
- Compounds would change dramatically. Due to Lewis dots changing and orbital filling changing, bonding between elements would have to change. Ex: Water, H2O, could not exist on this planet. A similar compound called hydrazine, H3O, would exist.
Examples of Lewis Dot structure of elements on SCP-4373.
- Many Earth elements are replaced on SCP-4373. The structure of Oxygen on Earth is similar to that of Neon on SCP-4373. The structure of Carbon is similar to that of Nitrogen on the planet.
- Most of the components that make up SCP-4373's surface are ionic, so most of the soil is rocky besides for certain areas. Most of the atmosphere is helium and hydrogen, with little oxygen present.
- UV radiation is very apparent, as there is no ozone or similar compound on SCP-4373 in the atmosphere to protect the surface.
- The periodic table of elements is different in shape, but not behavior [See Addendum SCP-4373-B]. The type of properties still stay the same for each section of the table, except for metalloids and nonmetals, which are severely disarranged. Chemical qualities like reactivity and ionization energy will stay the same and have the same patterns. Physical properties such as atomic radii, density, atomic number, and melting point also have the same behavior, but the element of the highest density and melting point is still unknown.
Analysis: The main researchers for SCP-4373, Dr. C██████, Dr. H███████, Dr. F███████, and Dr. S████ concluded that the planet is not habitable. The soil sample taken [See Addendum SCP-4373-A, Test Log B] under a particle microscope at Site 7 showed that each compound has a bonding stronger yet more reactive than Earth’s, with three electrons per orbital on SCP-4373, unlike Earth’s two. This third electron is omniscient within in its atom. To closely examine SCP-4373’s chemical structures, Dr. C██████ created the Periodic Table for SCP-4373, dubbed “The Neariodic Table” [See Addendum SCP-4373-B], for reference when examining SCP-4373’s compounds.
Any forms of life on SCP-4373 would be based on the element Nitrogen instead of Carbon. Many compounds and molecules necessary for animal and plant life to be sustained on Earth are unable to be built or are unable to stabilize, nor might the components have the same properties. Most of the similarities are the dirt, as it is ionic, along with most of the compounds on SCP-4373.
Due to the extra electron in each orbital, there is a possibility that up two elements would bond to one side of a document. making molecular shapes like octahedrals and trigonal bipyramidal easily possible. The largest shape possible, with 8 vertices, would be a hexahedron, also known as a cube, and could easily have it build into chains. There theoretically could be a three way bond, and up to 8 elements bonded to one element, two on each side. Also an addition of triatomics with diatomics. If the novedodecatet rule (Atoms will lose, gain, or share electrons to achieve the electron configuration of the nearest noble element 9 12 valence electrons with the exception of Helium with 2 and Lithium with 3) is not fulfilled, the compound would extremely reactive and would oxidize quickly, leaving most Earth substances to decay (See Addendum SCP-4373-A Test Log A).
Addendum SCP-4373-A Test Logs
Test A - 10-05-19██
Subject: D-9854 is a 20 year old healthy male, equipped with one (1) ziploc bag.
Procedure: Subject is instructed to travel through SCP-████'s gateway and gather samples from the surface for study.
Results: D-9854 steps through the gateway, but returns less than ten seconds later, with multiple differences to his appearance. His face and skin had rapidly aged, and he could not breathe. He also had sun poisoning. After the subject expired, analysis of his body revealed that it was terribly oxidized. No samples were obtained.
Test B - 01-03-19██
Subject: D-1151 is a 41 year old mildly overweight male, equipped with one (1) ziploc bag, one (1) high-resolution camera, and one (1) air-tight biohazard containment suit with oxygen supply for five minutes.
Procedure: Subject is instructed to travel through SCP-████'s gateway and gather samples from the surface for study, as well as taking photos of the surface.
Results: D-1151 steps through the gateway, and returns roughly sixty seconds later. Subject brought back samples and the camera, with one photo on it. Subject stated he returned quickly because he "thought the suit would break." His suit was badly damaged, but still functional. Soil samples contained regular elements, the only difference being a third electron within the orbitals. Dr. C██████ made a new periodic table for the planet, which she named the "Neariodic Table."
Test C - 07-07-19██
Subject(s): Class D personnel 2736-2746, 5 male, 5 female all of ages surrounding 25. Health is various, ranging from slightly overweight to healthy. All are equipped with one (1) air-tight Biohazard containment suit with oxygen supply set and an added Palladium covering, and two (2) ziploc bags.
Procedure: Subjects are instructed to travel through SCP-████’s gateway and gather samples from the surface to study. All are instructed to gather as much distance as possible to cartograph the surface.
Results: 4 Class D personnel return through SCP-████'s gateway roughly three minute and thirty seconds later, with impaired hearing. Updated suits were effective, but no longer usable due to oxidation. Subjects state that no life was found. Subjects also state that as one D-class personnel attempted to touch another, a massive burst of electricity was released. This energy burst caused the death of six of the ten personnel. Further testing revealed this explosion to have been caused by static electricity, since a large amount of unneeded electrons were dispersed into the surroundings.
