Item number #: SCP-4863

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4863 is to be contained in Site-11 within a Keter electro-thermal resistant containment chamber. Primary containment consists of a hermetically sealed chamber, it’s dimensions are to be 4 meters in height and 5 meters in width/length; the chamber walls will consist of a series of rubber & hexagonal Boron Nitride (hBN) layered over and between mica sheets; this will be backed by a 3-inch thick stainless steel cage suspended within a bath of purified water, with a 200cm by 80cm transparent 6 inches thick level 4 thermal resistant glass observation windows on each side. Each observation window is to have an automated blast shield fitted which is to be activated in the event that the integrity of the observation window has been compromised or a containment breach is detected.

The initial containment chamber is to be fitted with a refrigeration unit to sustain an internal temperature of no more than -30 degrees Celsius. In the event of refrigeration failure, manual activation of liquid nitrogen tanks fitted onto the chamber are to be activated to sustain a core temperature of -30 degrees Celsius.

Two meters of spacing is to be allocated between this chamber and secondary containment; the walls of which should be linked with the mica and rubber/hBN epoxy kinetic and thermal resistant sheets, backed by a 3-inch layer of Rubber and a 6-inch layer of reinforced concrete.
A one-armed security guard wearing electro-thermal protective equipment is to be positioned outside secondary containment at all times. An eight-digit passcode can be obtained from current Site-11 director to access the initial containment chamber and allow for up-close examination of SCP-4863’s behaviour and appearance. CCTV equipment is however installed outside of the initial containment chamber providing limited remote observation.

Primary containment is to be regularly examined for damages. Any signs of aggressive activity will be noted, and the current site-11 director informed at the earliest possible convenience.
In the event of a powerful electro-magnetic pulse affecting the environmental controls of the containment chamber, two back-up generators are to be located within observation side room N-11-02. Back-up generators can be restarted manually if automated activation fails.
In the event that core temperature can no longer be sustained at below -30 degrees Celsius then containment protocol Theta-15 will become active.

Containment Protocol Theta-15:

4863-TH-15-01: Upon activation, containment team MTF-Theta-15 “Bright Sparks” are to be deployed on-site. MTF-Theta-15 is tasked with containing SCP-4863 before its core temperature elevates above -10 degrees Celsius. In the event that SCP-4863 reaches a core temperature of above -10 degrees Celsius and has yet to be contained, phase-2 of containment protocol Theta-15 becomes active.

4863-TH-15-02: Upon activation of phase 2, MTF-Theta-15 are authorised to deploy Telekill device X-15 [REDACTED] to subdue SCP-4863 or terminate if necessary.

Description: A humanoid with charred, mangled flesh interwoven with electrical wires and cables. SCP-4863 levitates above the ground at varying heights depending on its core temperature. When in a stable state in containment, SCP-4863 levitates between 20cm and 40cm above the ground and measures between 2.1m to 2.3m tall depending on the extension of its metallic cadavers. SCP-4863 emits a low frequency oscillatory ‘humming’ sound, the purpose of which is not currently understood. It has a metallic dome-like head, with no facial features, measuring at approximately 55cm in diameter; its head gives off arcs of electricity when in an unstable state due to high core temperature.
SCP-4863 gives off an electric current and electromagnetic pulse at all times, the intensity of which depending on SCP-4863’s core temperature; when the SCP’s core temperature is below -30 degrees Celsius it maintains an extremely low electrical current output and very low electromagnetic disturbance in its local vicinity (EMP). As SCP-4863’s temperature increases, an increase in electrical output and electromagnetic disturbances can be detected.

SCP-4863’s behaviour also corresponds to its core temperature; when below -30 degrees Celsius, the creature appears very docile with almost no movement and goes through periods of several hours grounding itself rather than levitating. As its core temperature rises increased inactivity can be observed; at first, slow movement whilst hovering a few centimetres above the ground. SCP-4863’s metal cadavers are not fully extended and hang downwards, with some dragging along the ground. When SCP-4863’s core temperature elevates above -30 degrees Celsius the creature seems to become agitated; its movements and reactions become elevated in speed, sporadic and more responsive to physical changes in its environment. In this state it levitates anywhere from 20cm to 40cm above the ground, it’s cables become animated and sway seemingly independently and a low-frequency oscillatory sound is audible at this stage.

When SCP-4863 core temperature increases above approximately -10 degrees Celsius (security notice, see Containment protocol: 4863-TH-15-02) it’s behaviour becomes aggravated and hostile and will attack anything within close proximity of itself or anything showing hostilities towards SCP-4863 within its visual range. In this stage, SCP-4863 will attempt to escape containment and seek out a location with a low ambient temperature. SCP-4863 will also begin using SCP-4863-1 a device attached to its right arm which is capable of firing what appears to be a concentrated beam of light that has previously disintegrated members of an SCP containment team (See history logs). SCP-4863-1 was capable of disintegrating N-11’s primary containment chamber and inflicting massive damage on secondary containment leading to the Site-11 containment breach on ██/██/1961. On-site staff described hearing intermittent sounds not too dissimilar from a ‘scream’ accompanying an audible oscillatory ‘humming’ sound emanating from SCP-4863.

SCP-4863 has so far been unresponsive to communication attempts in laboratory conditions.

During the Site-11 containment breach in ████, 1961 SCP-4863 reaches temperatures above ██ degrees Celsius, at which time Site-11 personnel reported hearing a voice call out to say [DATA REDACTED].

[DATA EXPUNGED] SCP-4863 poses potential Cognitohazard; Telekill countermeasures implemented as part of containment protocol Theta-15.

History logs: ██/██/1961: reports of a series of aberrant weather patterns are recorded around the city of ██████, United Kingdom, which detail a sudden onset of heavy rain and wind as well as circular cloud formations directly above the ██████ ██████ ██████ ██████ ████, █████ ██ ██████, Manchester.

██:██ local time, numerous reports of an explosion having occurred at ██████ █████ ████ was received by local law enforcement. Examination of local enforcement audio data records revealed reports of several ‘lightning strikes’ having struck the facility prior to the explosion. Local authorities’ were dispatched to investigate the source of the explosion leading them to the facility. Local authorities accessed the facility currently in use by the British military for ██████ ██ ████ and operation █████████ ███. For further information on operation █████████ █████ see ██████.

██:██: local SCP agent Ellis Bain was alerted after local enforcement had received reports of several fatalities and a visual description of a tall, slender entanglement of charred flesh and electrical cables exiting the facility; this entity (which we will now refer to as SCP-4863) was described by one on-site operator as having “winding strings of energy emanating from its head”.

██:██: MTF-Theta-15 arrives on-site; upon completion of site evaluation by leading agent Ellis Bain, the request was made for level 03 electro-insulation suits to be deployed on-site.

██:██: After the arrival of protective equipment, MTF-Theta-15 move to locate and intercept SCP-4863. After MTF-Theta-15-01 encountered SCP-4863 the team sustained a 75% fatality rate and called for an additional containment team to be deployed. MTF-Theta-15-01 had reported that SCP-4863 was armed with a device, which shall be referred to as SCP-4863-1, which had disintegrated several members of MTF-Theta-15-01 after approaching SCP-4863.

██/██/1961: SCP-4863 is sent to containment Site-11 and placed in containment room N-11 that was initially designed to house a previous SCP-████, however, SCP-████ was transferred to Site-███ for potential research opportunities. This decision to house SCP-4863 in Site-11’s unused containment chamber was later described as a “negligent oversight” by current Site-11 director ████████, and an “unnecessary risk to save additional foundation resources”.

Prior to primary containment breach on ██/██/1961 at Site-11, SCP-4863 was to be contained in a cylindrical 3 inches thick, electro-thermal resistant glass chamber 3.5 meters in height and 2.5 meters in radius. Secondary containment consisted of 8 inch thick reinforced concrete walls surrounding the primary containment chamber, with a perimeter of 2 meters of empty space around the primary chamber.

After the arrival of SCP-4863 on ██/██/1961 at Site-11, previous Site-11 director ████ ██████ ordered that SCP-4863 be taken to isolation chamber N-11 for observation and testing.

██:██: Within an hour of SCP-4863 being contained within N-11-01 researchers noticed SCP-4863’s core temperature begin to increase. As a countermeasure, research staff manually applied liquid nitrogen into containment chamber N-11-01.

██:██: Lead researcher ███████ informs site-11 director of the incident and requests additional endothermic equipment.

██:██: SCP-4863 activates SCP-4863-1 and melts a hole in the N-11-01 containment chamber. Lead researcher ████████ activates containment breach protocol.
