Names:

  • The strange face in the mirror
  • The man in the mirror
  • Spectrophobia

General concepts:

  • Effectively the Strange-Face-in-the-Mirror illusion / mirror gazing turned into an SCP.
  • Visual cognitohazard, manifesting after an individual looks at their own reflection in the mirror.
  • SCP is initially completely harmless and appears as changes in one's own reflection, such as deformation or the appearance of various possible abnormalities ranging from the benign to the monstrous.
  • After sufficient exposure (~30m of continued mirror gazing) the individual will become compromised and the SCP will gain enough power to 'break free', becoming an independent entity not bound to the reflection of the individual. At this point it is designated as a -1 instance of the SCP.
  • The SCP will take the form of whatever reflection the individual saw when it became a -1 instance, this form does not change over time.
  • The behaviour of the SCP changes dependent on the form it takes. The vast majority of instances appear as some form of malevolent cryptid or eldritch creature that elicits extreme paranoia and fear.
  • The SCP is specific to a compromised individual. A -1 instance can only appear to the individual who created it.
  • Only one -1 instance is capable of forming per person.
