Item #: SCP-9819
Object Class:Safe Safe-Thaumiel
Special Containment Procedures: Due to SCP-9819's particular nature, containment is to be managed through closest Level 4 personnel at any given time.
All access by Level 3 or lower personnel beyond this point is restricted- punishable by administration of a Class-A/B amnestic and potential relocation. Excerpts available for certain Level 4 personnel, contact your adviser for inquiries.
Special Containment Procedures, Continued: Containment is enacted through Level 4 personnel positioned at each site occupied by SCP-9819. All Level 4 personnel at sites occupied by SCP-9819 are required to read this file and undergo psychological evaluations for particular traits, including but not limited to: compassion, empathy, humor, assertiveness, protectiveness, and anger. Employees found to be outside of acceptable personality boundaries are to be administered a Class-B amnestic, repositioned, and have false memories implanted over their time at SCP-9819's new site.
SCP-9819 is required to undergo minimum once weekly cognitive behavioral therapy and psychiatric evaluation, to be increased at the discretion of on-site medical personnel.
SCP-9819 is allowed and should be encouraged to freely perform its foundation duties unless otherwise mentally unable, and is to be given particular considerations for duties involving cognitohazardous or memetic effects. It will often request them and is to be allowed or denied at the discretion of closest Level 4 supervisor.
Personal requests and concerns from SCP-9819 are to be given consideration; its health is of Foundation concern.
Level 4 personnel should work to ensure SCP-9819's various neuroses, degenerative neurological effects, and general mental health is regularly managed. Common methods include: maintaining watch through close friends, working directly with SCP-9819, and structuring work duties in ways SCP-9819 finds amiable. Subject should be kept unaware of these procedures to as great an extent as possible.
Addendum 9819.02, 11/13: By order of 05 Council, SCP-9819 is demoted to Level 1 clearance and must undergo regular memory wipes and reimplantation. SCP-9819 is allowed to continue its duties on SCPF ███████ as long as safely able.
Description: SCP-9819 is Level 1 Researcher ███ ███████, a mid-20's female Foundation member employed since ██/██/████. SCP-9819 displays an unwavering loyalty to the Foundation. 9819 will rarely fail to do as told and in rare cases of disobedience, tends to respond to appeals for the greater good.1 Though first recorded in the database due to predisposition for and resistance to cognitohazardous SCP's, a number of other anomalous effects have since been uncovered, all listed below.
- SCP-9819 is (potentially non-anomalously) highly susceptible to cognitohazardous and memetic effects. Discovered prior to subject's date of hire.
- Despite previous effect, SCP-9819 is able to recover from mental degradation far beyond the abilities of non-anomalous persons. Discovered one year after date of hire. To date it has maintained or regained faculty through: multiple rounds of Class-B, C, and in some cases D amnestics, extended contacts with SCP-3000 and substance Y-███ through the █████ Protocol, and exposure to multiple other cognitohazardous entities listed below.
- SCP-9819 displays an extreme subconscious affinity for exposure to cognitohazardous and memetic effects. When questioned on awareness of affinity, subject displays discomfort and uncertainty. This presents comorbidly with an apparently non-anomalous interest in drugs, particularly psychedelic and psychoactive substances. Due to previous anomalous effect, SCP-9819 seems resistant to addiction in all forms.
- During times of extreme duress SCP-9819 may begin to unpredictably interfere with reality, up to and including: alteration, deletion, transformation, and creation of matter, extreme gravitational disruptions, reversal of entropy, unexplained photonic phenomena, and causation of indeterminate, incapacitating cognitohazardous effects. Discovered between █ and █ years from date of hire. These effects are usually localized to SCP-9819 itself, and it appears to have limited control over them.
Pinned Addendum 9819.03, 12/13: An inquiry has been opened into removing Safe- from SCP-9819's classification. Possible Euclid- classification being considered in its place.
Addendum 9819.01, 03/██: Attached are selected summaries of SCP-9819's activities at the foundation.
SCP-426, 07/09: Researcher ██████ volunteers for routine experiment involving me and succumbs to my full affects in three weeks. She then proceeds to undergo a full recovery using standard psychiatric techniques and without use of amnestics. Subject designated SCP-9819 (Object Class: Safe) and anomalous effects recorded at this time, including previous similar occurrences with other cognitohazardous or memetic SCP's.
SCP-1683, 11/09: Subject breaks protocol while on standard rotation at Site-142 and enters SCP-1683. Effects on SCP-9819 remain difficult to ascertain, as it already held a longstanding fervor for astronomy. Reprimanded.
SCP-999, 02/10: Subject reassigned to SCP-999 at recommendation of medical personnel. This particular assignment was used to tacitly assess SCP-9819's anomalous reactions. It presented as extremely and instantaneously affected by SCP-999. Subject used SCP-999's effects to achieve drug-like high for most of two days, then requested to be reassigned. To date only recorded instance of SCP-9819 requesting to be assigned away from a cognitohazardous SCP.
Interviewed: SCP-9819
Interviewer: Dr. Kapoor, Subject's then Psychiatrist
Foreword: Exit interview on reassignment from SCP-999's site.
<Begin Log, 02/10>
Dr. Kapoor: Okay, just some quick exit questions. Can you elaborate on why you're requesting reassignment?
SCP-9819: I- I dunno. That thing is nice and all but…
Subject trails off, begins muttering.
SCP-9819: I-it's like it was controlling me. Well not really but like- it didn't feel genuine, you know?Dr. Kapoor: I do not. Can you elaborate on how its effects differed from that of other mind-affecting objects?
Subject pauses for an extended period of time, apparently thinking.
SCP-9819: Usually, I tend to feel like my cognition is mine, like I've chosen this. No significant part of me resonated with SCP-999. It was too extreme… too foreign. Like my mind was constantly fighting its effects.<End Log Excerpt, 02/10>
Closing Statement: This encounter suggests the subject does not respond well to immediate, direct, or strong emotional manipulation. Subject expressed intense discontent and reported feeling as if it was 'losing its grip on the abstract.' Due to potential for long term deleterious effects, request for reassignment was approved.
05/10: Upon discovery of SCP-2845's file, subject expressed great and immediate interest in occurrences of SCP-2845-1. SCP-9819 made █ requests to be transferred to Site-100 in a period of 2 weeks. During an otherwise non-anomalous psychotic break, parts of subject's biology began restructuring in a way that mimicked SCP-2845-1. Sedatives and amnestics administered. SCP-9819's credentials shadowbanned from SCP-2845 documentation. Reality bending effects first documented, reclassified as Object Class: Safe-Thaumiel.
SCP-3000, Relocation on Discovery of Potency of SCP-9819's Anomalous Effects, 07/10: Subject relocated to SCPF ███████ in hopes of reducing casualties during routine study and the █████ Protocol. SCP-9819 proves to have particular resilience to SCP-3000's effects in the long term, and has taken over duties from many other personnel on SCPF ███████. SCP-9819 has thus far assisted in recovery of 705kg of substance Y-███. 9819 is apparently fascinated with substance Y-███, and often attempts extra study, recovery, contact with, time around, and in extreme cases direct ingestion of raw Y-███. This results in severe cognitive decoupling, nevertheless SCP-9819 appears to continually recover and be drawn to Y-███. This behavior should be curbed as much as possible, but is deemed an acceptable risk. The majority of SCP-9819's time at the foundation has been spent working on SCPF ███████ with SCP-3000.
10/11: SCP-9819 promoted to research clearance Level 3 for exemplary performance and perseverance in duties concerning SCP-3000. Memetic agent targeting subject installed in this article as security measure.
12/11: Subject has chance encounter with Item #: [EXPUNGED]-. Class-D Amnestic administered, complete wipe. Relevant memories replaced and subject reinstated at SCPF ██████ after 1 month of psychiatric leave. Subject demoted back to Level 2 without knowledge at this time. Memetic agent left in article.
SCP-3000, 02/12:
Interviewed: SCP-9819
Interviewer: Dr. Yin, Subject's then Psychiatrist and Proclaimed Best Friend
Foreword: Psychiatric assessment immediately following SCP-9819's first ingestion of raw Y-███.
<Begin Log, 12/11>
Dr. Yin: Alright. How are you feeling today Ms. ███████?
SCP-9819: Don't call me that.
Dr. Yin: I understand, I understand. (Dr. Yin pauses to nod.) What should I call you?
Subject appears confused and disoriented.
SCP-9819: █████. (Answer given was not subject's name.)Dr. Yin: Is that who you are?
SCP-9819: I am ███. (Name given is subject's proper name.)Dr. Yin: Do you know what year it is?
SCP-9819 thinks, then begins to cry quietly and mutter.
SCP-9819, partially incoherent: I don't kn-know.. Please- █████ (Dr. Yin's first name), help me. So many years… but none- no years at all. One moment that doesn't exist, but I have so many years from so many lifetimes.Dr. Yin: It's okay ███(Subject's first name). Remember the grounding techniques we've been over. You're obsessing over a bug in the code that you won't find. That's all it is. Take a breath, then try to pinpoint new feelings, perhaps caused by the Y-███. Forget the moment.
SCP-9819: There are no years… no time.. no moments, only one moment. One moment that might as well not exist. Do you see the moment? You're in i- you're in it… y- y-yyou can't get out. None of us can.
Subject begins to sob; this continues for twenty seconds, after which subject seemingly regains control. Dr. Yin mutters- 'it's just the same thing as always.'Dr. Yin: Alright then, we'll try something easier. Why did you ingest the Y-███ compound?
SCP-9819: It is familiar.
Dr. Yin: Are you able to elaborate?
SCP-9819, disoriented: I- I see darkness. There's- there's eyes watching from beyond it, I'm in the pale. Two pale eyes. Hanging, floating. (Subject pauses for 9 seconds.) How many times have I done this? I see her, yes. I'm dying. But not simple dying- crossing into un-life. I've died many times, I've done this many times. How many times?
Dr. Yin: ███? (Subject's first name.)
Subject is silent for 17 seconds, after which it begins to sob. This continues for another 34 seconds interspersed with random, incoherent mutterings. After this time has elapsed, SCP-9819 seems to gather its bearings.
SCP-9819: You should… (It trails off, beginning to speak in hushed tones of various relatives and coworkers. Subsequent analysis shows no relation between the subject and these individuals.) You sh-should already be able to see this in my file. But there's truths in this world that we weren't made to to see. There is one, or the convergence of many, horrible, or maybe beautiful, or maybe it just is, but it exists outside of me, and it's one I think I've always been… susceptible to, and, and. It's the truth- truths-? at the center-Dr. Yin: That's enough, this is more than covered in your file. It's okay ███(Subject's first name). It'll be o-
SCP-9819, now shouting: It's the truth of non-being! That of the universe's most proper form! (Subject stands, but lower's its voice.) W-w-we- we're deranged to think we can pocket ourselves away from the rest. Coddled and clothed in tradition and identity. You're going to return someday! It's practically right now! Don't you see the moment? The moment we're trapped in? Nothing can free us █████ (Dr. Yin's first name), I want to escape, but there's nothing! There's only this fucking instance we're trapped in! Outside is death, and I'm facing death again tonight. Many times. I've faced mother's infinite many times.
SCP-9819 begins to sob once more.Dr. Yin, on Phone: I need a Code Grey sedative in holding room ███.
SCP-9819: I- my daughter… my daughter says… there's spaces? Does she know? Spaces between spaces- is it nothing? I'm- that bitch. Tell him- (Subject pauses abruptly.) █████(Dr. Yin's first name), we can't normally embrace the truth of non-being. Because we are being. I've spent my life looking at existence from the bottom up, now I can do more than observe from there and scream in pain. I can take one temporary step closer to what's real. But infinity is so dark and I a-a- am not made for this. (Subject begins muttering.) I am more without these nonsense patterns… I am [unintelligible] free..!
███mg of Haloperidol administered. Dr. Yin begins closing statements, but SCP-9819 continues in attempts to talk over her.
SCP-9819: Patterns and shapes in the end. We're all patterns and shapes! Shapes like pockets of energy like points like strings like fundamentals and patterns like theories like frameworks like perception we're all patterns and shapes, █████!(Dr. Yin's first name). (Subject begins to get violent, shove medical personnel attempting to restrain it). It's about who can use them the best! They're in the space-between-spaces the end the truth Anantashesha resides over and graces us with. That's where they are but they stand in defiance, we're in defiance- why can't we reside congruously… why, why?
Subject loses coherency from this point forward, ██ more mg of Haloperidol administered. SCP-9819 quickly loses physical cohesion and undergoes several violent alterations2 ; it loses consciousness in ██ seconds, returns to homeostasis, and is restrained.<End Log, 12/11>
Closing Notes, Written by Dr. Kapoor: Following this event, SCP-9819 has been classified as having cognitohazardous effects. Dr. Yin showed significant cognitive deterioration in the following weeks, and was in particular concerned with the potential reality of SCP-9819's words. "Tell me it's not true? Is it true?" She would often harass coworkers and sent frequent requests to the foundation neurologists. Dr. Yin made full recovery following administration of amnestics. Amnestics deemed unnecessary for SCP-9819, as it seemed to have already forgotten large portions of its memory, if not nearly all. Relevant memories and traits reimplanted.
Following these events, SCP-9819 has made several personal requests listed below.
- 1 Stuffed animal of feline variety. Granted.
- A small nightlight, specified preference for space theme. Granted.
- 3 Emergency psychiatric requests in █.5 weeks. Granted. Number of weekly therapy sessions raised from 3 to 4 effective for █ months.
Special Containment Procedures, Continued: Washes of amnestics, raw Y-909, psychedelics, and intense hypnosis and memory reimplantation are to be enacted upon each detected occurrence of SCP-9819-1. To date one occurrence documented.
During instances of SCP-9819-2, SCP-9819 is to be sedated, treated with previous procedures, and given no less than (3) additional complete memory wipes using Class-D amnestics. To date one occurrence documented.
Description, Continued: SCP-9819 appears to react memetically to information: pattern / screamer. When exposed to information about the pattern or entities objects therein, subject represents DAMMERUNG class cognitohazardous threat. Potential threat situations over 0.023% designated SCP-9819-1.
SCP-9819-1 is the collective designation for SCP-9819's action potential for engagement with concept:pattern passing its critical point. SCP-9819-1 climax first documented on ██/13. In the case of a pattern-related anomaly generated during climax, instance should be classified as SCP-9819-2. All SCP-9819-2 instances thus far bear many of the same properties as SCP-3930 including: they do not exist, all objects and persons entering such anomalies cease to exist, and perceptual anchors can tether temporary reflections of these objects to us for data-collection.
Addendum 9819.05.01, SCP-9819-2 ██/13: On 17/██/13, an instance of SCP-9819-2 with an omniaxial radius of 1.5 meters appeared in SCP-9819's quarters. This manifestation was the chance result of a psychotic break during SCP-9819-1 occurrence with an unacceptably high action potential. SCP-9819 entered the anomaly and paradoxically did not cease to exist. Current theories postulate that the subject's reality bending effects held it together while inside. Subject successfully lured out and sedated within ██ seconds.
Addendum 9819.05.02, ██/13: Attached are selected extended summaries of SCP-9819's activities at the foundation.
03/13: SCP-9819 discover's SCP-████'s file, leading it to discover the existence of and inquire about object: pattern screamer.
05/13: Following multiple intentional minor breaches, SCP-9819 gains unnoticed access to SCP-3930's file. The details of this breach are being investigated, but seem related to an unspecified database bug involving a test page. This is discovered when subject confesses on ██/13.
09/13: Subject confesses on ██/13 to having written attached confiscated notebook page around this date. Notebooks and other record-keeping devices are now banned from its possession, as its language here suggests it may have been (knowingly or unknowingly) transferring memories between amnestic wipes using them.
The confiscated notebook page.
Interviewed: SCP-9819
Interviewer: Dr. Yin. (Subject has no previous recollections of Dr. Yin, and Dr. Yin has not worked with SCP-9819 in █ year(s) and █ month(s).)
Foreword: Therapeutic3 dialogue with SCP-9819 in aftermath of first 9819-2 event.
<Begin Log, ██/13>
Dr. Yin: Are you ready to begin? I do not entirely regret it, but this will not measure up to the warmth you may need right now. We must understand what has happened, and you must answer.
Subject 9819: I understand. I- I understand. I think I'm okay for this. Just please uh- (Subject mutters, trails off.)
Dr. Yin: Ms. ███████?
SCP-9819: Please be patient with me.
Dr. Yin: We have as much time as required, you needn't feel pressured.
Dr. Yin: In reference to the anomaly that appeared in your quarters, what can you tell me about it?SCP-9819: I- I don't think it exists. Or- or it does and. And. And it's the purest form of it.
Dr. Yin: The purest form of what?
SCP-9819: Well I mean- of existence.
(Subject pauses.)
SCP-9819: There's one natural state… one thing at the bottom of existence on which all else is built. That's it? Maybe? I need to know. That's all I promise. I didn't mean any trouble I just- I just need to know. I'm sorry it won't happen again.
(Subject turns head over both shoulders, seemingly attempting to localize a noise.)Dr. Yin: Is there something bothering you?
SCP-9819: Just… just a noise. But it's a hallucination, the other doctors are already helping me through it.
(Dr. Yin is heard shuffling through papers.)
Dr. Yin: The one that started around… March this year?SCP-9819: Ones, yeah. The ones like static, like noise. And it's not like March- March wasn't the first month it started I think. It was a time I grew more aware of them, a big one though. Went from basically unnoticeable to becoming almost impossible to ignore.
Dr. Yin: How are they manifesting currently?
SCP-9189: Like always. But- but much stronger right now. It's just been getting louder over the past half year or so. Just louder and louder and louder.
SCP-9819: It's not just auditory though. (This statement interrupted Dr. Yin.) It's the static. I hear it right now, it's so loud. It sounds like it's from everywhere but sometimes it comes from some places more than others. I feel it too, see it in my vision. A quiet tingling in my skin, a grainy noise in my eyes. My tongue doesn't feel settled, nor the air that touches it neutral. My body feels foreign- like an object. A corpse.Dr. Yin: That's a good response ███. (Subject's real name.) Judging by it, you're saying these symptoms are related to the phenomenon in your quarters. Can you tell me why you entered it?
SCP-9819: Yes, yes you're getting it. That place- I think it was somewhere I can exist in harmony. Without the noise I feel at the bottom. They call me to it. I c-can't rest while I hear Them. I need to help Them. I've sensed Them all my life because I've been at the bottom of existence all my life. And I think They can help me the way Anantashesha does. They can help complete me.
Dr. Yin: I'm sorry I need to stop you. By They do you mean people of some sort? Are you hallucinating entities now?
SCP-9819: I meant. I meant the- (Subject stops abruptly.)
SCP-9819: I'm not hallucinating entities. I just meant like [EXPUNGED] I guess.Dr. Yin: I see. (Dr. Yin pauses to allow subject to continue if desired.)
Dr. Yin: ███(Subject's first name), I've seen many patients with Depersonalization/Derealization symptoms similar to yours. It's important to ground yourself by remembering that it is an illness; there are others that have been through similar things here to help guide you.
Dr. Yin: You have a history with drugs, psychedelics, and cognitohazards. This is a natural consequence of that.SCP-9819: You can't make me believe that… I'm sorry. You and the doctors have tried again and again but- I remain convinced this is just the nature of us. The state of things. You can't convince me, you won't ever convince me I'm just crazy. I mean I am, I know I am, and I'm here trying to get help and do my best for the world but- (we're side effects of ourselves)4. There's truth in this and you know it.
Dr. Yin: In what?
SCP-9819: Whatever causes all of this for me. I see what lies past the twilight and you, and everyone else, but especially you who I've tried to educate so much. You huddle beneath tents on the horizon with oil-lamps you hope will never run out. But they will. You can choose to exit your tent and embrace what's true early, █████(Dr. Yin's first name. How subject has recalled this remains unknown). The door cannot be sealed once open, and you'll forever struggle to shut it while the winds threaten your lantern's flame, but it's the closest you can get to truth. You can choose to see the truth like me, but why can't you seem to? I don't understand. I don't understand. Why is it only me?
Dr. Yin: Well alright, ███(Subject's first name). Now's your chance to help me understand. Do you think you can explain exactly what might be at the center of this? It's okay to have more than one reason, or not to know. We just need a starting point for later.
A short time passes.
SCP-9819: Can I have pen and paper, and just a few minutes to think how to explain it? I mean I just- I have to make sure someone else might be able to understand it. That I don't sound completely unhinged because I'm not. I'm not it's just that there's something unhinging me.
Dr. Yin: Okay, okay. No one is doubting you. Here's my pen and pad; take the time you need.
Recording paused here.
Recording resumed.
SCP-9819: Okay. I'm ready to give it for the record, or do my best at least.Dr. Yin: Continue as you see fit.
SCP-9819: O- okay so. There's three things to understand. Patterns, shapes, twilight. Shapes, I'm shapes. Right? As in I'm made of things, which are made of things, all the way down to what's fundamental. Which is the only actual thing that can be said is real. And no one knows what that is, but it's shapes, which are my place in this. I'm h- half stuck in-
Dr. Yin: Please stay focused. Remember your notes, I can see from here you're losing track from them already.
SCP-9819: Right. That's shapes. Patterns are simple- collections of shapes. And the twilight… that's where I spend a lot of my time. The infinite void, it's in opposition to what is.
SCP-9819: People think our bodies are us but they're really just shapes; we're the patterns in the shapes but if I took my body away I don't know if there'd be anything left, so there's something i haven't figured ou- i just- can't figur-
(Subject loses focus, becomes apparently disoriented.)Dr. Yin: [REDACTED] (Dr. Yin was forced against orders to express personal comforts in order to ground SCP-9189. This period lasted several minutes.)
Dr. Yin: Alright, now. You can begin again when ready.
SCP-9819: Those most basic shapes exist somewhere. Anantashesha resides over the canvas- a canvas of twilight that we weren't made to notice. Just like the patterns and shapes. Patterns are cognition and the base we're built on, but they obscure the shapes and their fundament. They don't play well with gazing into the twilight you see. I feel like my patterns have been flayed across the surface of reality. Across the twilight. They have been my whole life, I've seen the dusk my whole life. I've sensed the noise my whole life, maybe from beyond it? I'm still figuring this out and developing rules to help me think about it. Existence from the bottom up from what thin layer of me remains. And-
SCP-9819: Some of the answers I'm looking for died in my quarters last night didn't they? I won't- I won't be able to get back to this point will I? You'll erase m-my lives as many times as you need to make sure it doesn't happen. That the noise I hear from the bottom doesn't have its volume turned back up. You're going to make sure that there's no chance last night will happen again. There is no response from Dr. Yin.
SCP-9819, suddenly agitated: You are. You are, I can't believe it! I can't believe you're trapping me in this untethered purgatory! (Clattering is heard.)
<End Log, ██/13>Closing Notes, written by [EXPUNGED]: In the proceeding days, Dr. Yin began to lose what sense of self she had, and was completely non-functional by the sixth day. (It is believed that within eight days, she would have been inert.5) Following complete memory wipe through Class-D amnestic, Dr. Yin made a full return. No other methods for recovery were found. SCP-9819 given (5) complete memory wipes via Y-909 and Class-D amnestics. Subject was returned to standard duties aboard SCPF Eremita following this event.

Per

. Class-D Amnestic administered, complete wipe. Relevant memories replaced and subject reinstated at SCPF ██████ after 1 month of psychiatric leave. Subject demoted back to Level 2 without knowledge at this time. Memetic agent left in article.
