Item #: SCP-4573

Object Class: Euclid Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Both instances of SCP-4573 are to be kept inside its own spherical Titanium-Lead alloy vacuum chamber measured at 300mm in diameter. The chambers themselves should be kept at least 500m away from any civilization, or any device capable of absorbing any kind of electromagnetic radiation, as weak or strong as it may be. A maximum exposure time of 60 minutes is allowed for routine maintance to the spherical chambers and routine checkup, but evacuation is to be performed as fast as possible. Failing to follow the containment procedures may result in catastrophic damage to the surrounding environment within a max radius of 1700km².

Description: SCP-4573 refers to a set of two (2) highly radioactive isotopes of Polonium, 229Po and 230Po (SCP-4573-1 and SCP-4573-2 respectively). Its properties are, however, inconsistent with the expected properties of said isotopes, manifesting extremely high radiation outputs even at conditions prevously considered stable. Any living being that enters within a radius of 500m or less of SCP-4573 is to exit the area within 60 minutes. If the 60 minutes are ignored, the victim will suddenly fall over and expire after a couple of minutes of convulsions. The expired body then will start to radiate high doses of radiation of unkown extent around the expired subject. The effects will gradually get stronger until the body has been fully decomposed. How the artifact can manifest such properties on the subjects are still unknown.

SCP-4573 was found by dr.████ ██████ after [REDACTED] discovered a strange form of magnetic radiation rapidly rising around an area ██km west from ████, ██████, now known to be the center point of the original artifact location. A specialized hazmat team was assigned for the location and found both SCP-4573-01 and SCP-4573-02 lying on the ground next to a table, and a deceased human male, later found to be [DATA EXPUNGED]. As of [Addendum 4573-001], the team concluded that the object should be immediately moved to Site █ and to be isolated from all electronics or civilization within 500m. SCP-4573 is now located inside a special room, built around the original artifact to ensure absolute stability of the environment around it. When located, SCP-4573 had a note attached to itself that claimed [See addendum 4573-001].

As soon as it arrived Site █, SCP-4573 was analyzed several times to find any secondary effects that may exist within the artifact properties. To this day, nothing has been found. A clearence level of Euclid was assigned to SCP-4573, every containment procedures have been took care of and no other anomalies was found. ** (See Incident 4573-01)**

Addendum 4573-001: Letter found annexed to SCP-4573

Incident 4573-01 of ██/██/████: A trespasser entered the restricted area of 500m around SCP-4573 and expired after 60 minutes of exposure to the radiation. Upon close inspection, the corpse was found to be radiating enough to disturb equipments and other people beyond the contained zone, some of who also expired and started to exibit similar radioactive properties of the first victim. 12 days after the breach, the city of ████ was fully evacuated, with over [DATA EXPUNGED] casualties. The victims remains were burned to ensure no more radiation would come from the bodies and a new, reinforced wall was built about 750m way from Site █ to prevent future trespassing. The artifact is now classified as Keter.
