Item #: 7271

Object Class: Euclid Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-7271 is currently contained in the I Wing of Site-81, in the center of a soundproofed concrete room, measuring 12 feet in height, width, and length, with a thickness of 1 foot on all sides. 8 speakers. measuring 6 inches in diameter, have been placed in all four corners of the room, angled at the center of SCP-7271. 4 ultrasonic sensors are placed on the north, east, south, and west walls, and are centered with SCP-7271.

All monitoring of SCP-7271 will be done from an observation room located 7 feet away from the east wall. All equipment within the containment unit (8 speakers, 4 ultrasonic sensors) will be monitored at all times, and should one device fail, a D-Class personnel will be sent in at the soonest possible time allowed. Should more than one device fail, multiple D-Class will be sent in to make repairs within the allowed time frame. No personnel, under any circumstances, shall be allowed into the containment unit between the times of 0500 hours and 1700 hours (EST). Access to the east door of the until requires the use of 2 metal keys, inserted into console A, and console B, and must be turned within the same second. Keys will be kept on the unit supervisors at all times.

Description: SCP-7271 is a black spherical object, 1.3 feet in diameter, with engravings etched in an unknown depth, and will hover 5.5 feet above any surface. SCP-7271 will move a constant speed of 0.02 m/s, and will always move away from the loudest source of noise. A thin 0.1 inch layer of petroleum oil, ranging from 1-2 feet in diameter, is formed beneath the position of SCP-7271, and will replenish when taken from.

SCP-7271’s anomalistic traits will manifest in any living creature that holds eye contact with it for more than 30 seconds. These manifestations are being called corruptions. The first sign/stage 1 of corruption is a permanent shadow, visible in the peripheral of said creature's vision. Multiple instances of corruption detail the shadow as “always in the bottom left, like a sun spot that won't go away”. The shadow figure has not been documented as moving positions in any trial, nor any historical report.

Stage 2 of a corruption will appear exactly 48 hours after the shadow has appeared. During stage 2, the afflicted creature will lose 100% of it's vision, however no change is observable to the physical eye. Mental degradation is rapid among those corrupted, and most will become fully psychotic by this stage.

Stage 3 of a corruption will occur exactly 24 hours after loss of sight. Stage 3 consists of loss or block of hearing. However, due to loss of sight and hearing, further tests struggle to fully explore the effects of corruption. All 15 of the 15 █████████ were observed to show signs of extreme schizophrenia during stage 3, and have been observed to repeatedly speak about ████████.

Stage 4, the final stage in any corruption, will occur exactly 12 hours after the loss of hearing. Subjects will stop talking, and start to seize, subjects then collapse anywhere from 10-50 seconds later. Autopsies show severe signs of asphyxiation, and blood drawn immediately after show 0% oxygen levels. This stage is currently under further research.

SCP-7271 has been observed to emit a glow from engravings between the time of 0500 hours, and 1700 hours (EST). Should SCP-7271 acquire a new victim during this time, a small amount of mass is added to SCP-7271, increasing its size by 12% each time, upon the subject's death.

Addendum 7271-1: SCP-7271 was acquired by the Foundation after it was found in ██████, New Jersey by a 9 year old boy, named ██████, who then showed his mother, ███████. She was an employee at Site-██ and was employed from 1987, up to her death in 2014. She immediately contacted Emitt Ivers at Site-81, a subsequent task force consisting of [DATA EXPUNGED] were sent to retrieve SCP-7271. SCP-7271 Was secured in Site-81 in May of 2014. Both ██████ and her child died due to corruption from 7271, as well as 4 task force members. 7271 was classified as Euclid class, and stored in a 8x8x8 plywood box in the F wing of Site-81.

Addendum 7271-2: The first containment unit failed on June 21st, 2014, and a site wide lockdown was initiated for wings E-I. Researchers had by this point discovered that 7271 would move according to sound, so a cell was constructed while 7271 was held in a temporary aluminum box outfitted with 8 speakers, and moved into the I wing. 3 D-Class personnel, and 2 researchers died due to the containment breach, and SCP-7271 was raised from Euclid to Keter. Cause of the breach was due to the petroleum oil forming a hole in the side of the unit.
