The self-sufficient parasite
Item#: SCP-XXXX
Object class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be held in standard humanoid accommodation with the walls, floor and ceiling of its containment reinforced with twenty centimetres of steel. All personnel entering and exiting SCP-XXXX's container must go through a decontamination lock and all items removed from its room should be incinerated unless specifically stated otherwise. Personnel approaching SCP-XXXX must wear a surgical mask, protective glasses and gloves. SCP-XXXX should be under constant surveillance and at least one member of staff trained in First Aid must be present in the emergency medical bay near its containment to ensure rapid treatment for any injuries SCP-XXXX may incur. In the event of exposure to the fluid secreted from the object's hands the resulting injury should be considered a chemical burn and treated accordingly. In the event of exposure to the fluid inside SCP-XXXX's eyes, however, the subject must be quarantined immediately and kept on a strong dosage of anthelmintics until all instances of SCP-XXXX-3 in their body have been destroyed.
Gradual physiological developments in SCP-XXXX have shown it to be in an active state of growth, as a result it is imperative that the object is closely monitored for the development of any further anomalous properties and any notable deviations in behaviour must be both documented and investigated thoroughly.
Dr. Allegra is in charge of SCP-XXXX's analysis, education and general well-being as well as regulating its emotional development. While Dr. Allegra has a moderate level of experience with Keter-class anomalies she will be assisted by a second researcher, Dr. Jeremiah Lucas, who is authorised to make notes about SCP-XXXX's behaviour and design experiments to further investigate its properties.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a collective designation referring to two main entities:
- SCP-XXXX-1, an abnormally large parasitic growth around ██ centimetres in length. This growth consists of a large cluster of various parasitical species, the exact number is unknown but estimated to be well into the hundred thousands. SCP-XXXX-1 is capable of communication with external parasitic entities as long as they have a representative of their species present in SCP-XXXX-1, leading to the theory that SCP-XXXX-1 is the centre of a hivemind among parasites. A second notable attribute of SCP-XXXX-1 is its 'kill switch' mechanism that, when triggered, will cause SCP-XXXX's brain function to cease within two to four minutes. The full list of stimuli that could trigger this reaction is currently unknown. Neither SCP-XXXX-1 nor SCP-XXXX as a whole can induce this effect of its own volition.
- SCP-XXXX-2, a caucasian male between the ages of █ and ██, formerly considered the human host of SCP-XXXX-1, now believed to be a humanoid vessel synthesised by it.
- SCP-XXXX-3 refers to a previously undiscovered species of microscopic worm, produced by SCP-XXXX. Through experimentation, SCP-XXXX appears to be in full control of the effects instances of SCP-XXXX-3 have on the host.
While SCP-XXXX-2 has general function almost identical to that of a human child it possesses two major alterations, both of which have been attributed to its primal nature as a parasite and compulsion to cause new infections. These alterations include:
- The ability to secrete a corrosive substances from the pores in its palms.
- The ability to expel a highly infectious fluid from the four orifices in each of its eyes. The fluid contains numerous instances of SCP-XXXX-3.
Extreme caution should be taken not to cause potentially fatal harm to SCP-XXXX as it possesses the ability to re-manifest anywhere within an indeterminate radius following total cessation of brain function. Upon brain death, SCP-XXXX’s corpse is observed to dissolve into the same corrosive secretion found within its palms. The object has only manifested outside the facility once, during its only containment breach, therefore the maximum distance at which SCP-XXXX can travel cannot be determined. In Addendum XXXX-01 it was noted that SCP-XXXX’s tracking device manifested with it, leading to the theory that anything dissolved by SCP-XXXX’s corrosive secretion upon brain death will manifest with it upon re-appearance. Experimentation is still pending approval.
Plans were put in place to have SCP-XXXX permanently paralysed to prevent it from causing brain death using external sources, however SCP-XXXX’s brain function was noticed to be deteriorating rapidly in early tests examining the effects of the muscle relaxant [REDACTED]. It was found that in the event of SCP-XXXX losing motor function, SCP-XXXX-1's kill switch mechanism is triggered causing SCP-XXXX to perish and allowing it to re-manifest elsewhere.
Addendum XXXX-01: SCP-XXXX breached containment on ██-██-████, three days after its initial recovery, following a regular check-up. SCP-XXXX’s ability to re-manifest upon brain death was unknown at the time and during an altercation between the object and a researcher SCP-XXXX was wounded by the panicked victim. The researcher was not infected and was treated for only minor chemical burns however SCP-XXXX succambe to its injuries and died less than an hour later. Dr. Allegra expressed significant concern over how quickly the object had perished, stating it had "barely lost any blood at all", Dr. Lucas was notably upset by the event and referred to an on-site psychologist. SCP-XXXX’s containment breach was discovered several hours later after its tracking device was found to still be active, displaying a location on the coast of [REDACTED]. A retrieval team was immediately deployed including Dr. Lucas who insisted that his presence would be necessary for the successful re-containment of SCP-XXXX. Dr. Allegra was not in attendance.
Addendum XXXX-02: SCP-XXXX was located by the retrieval team at the oceanfront within a short distance from a number of seaside holiday accommodations in the coastal town of [REDACTED] in an emotionally volatile state. Due to its visible distress, Dr. Lucas approached SCP-XXXX while the remainder of the retrieval team stood guard in the event the object attempted to escape again. SCP-XXXX revealed that it had infected an undisclosed organism from the nearby town, claiming that it “had to or it would die”. SCP-XXXX remained ambiguous when asked what it meant, only stating that it had been "hungry". SCP-XXXX was successfully placated and with its co-operation the organism it had infected was found: a two (2) year old Labrador with an injury resembling an acidic burn coupled with teeth marks. Both SCP-XXXX and the infected dog were returned to the facility without incident.
When questioned on SCP-XXXX's eating and behavioural habits Dr. Allegra did note that SCP-XXXX had been left without food for a day while she modified its diet but that alone would not have caused it to starve. When asked why it took so long, Dr. Allegra explained that seemingly like a newborn baby, SCP-XXXX could not digest solid foods, however organising the diet for a newborn with the size and needs of a partially developed child was difficult to say the least. The incident was concluded to be an emotional overreaction on SCP-XXXX's part due to its inability to distinguish between hunger and starvation and precautions have been taken to ensure such an event does not occur again in the future. As per breach protocol, experimentation will also be suspended until SCP-XXXX is settled back into containment.
SCP-XXXX has since expressed remorse for harming the Labrador it attacked and requested permission to leave containment to apologise, permission to do so was denied due to the risk of re-infection. We feel obligated to inform all personnel accessing this document that the dog was fine.
Addendum XXXX-03: Due to ninety days passing without event the ban on experimentation has been lifted. Experiments that do not pose a risk to SCP-XXXX's life may go ahead as long as they are approved by both Dr. Lucas and Dr. Allegra.
Experiment Log XXXX-A1
The following is a transcript from an experiment designed by Dr. Lucas to test SCP-XXXX’s ability to control instances of both SCP-XXXX-3 and parasites which SCP-XXXX has never had contact with but do have a representative of their species present in SCP-XXXX-1.
SCP-XXXX enters the room followed shortly by Dr. Lucas. Dr. Allegra is observing from outside. Inside the room is a desk and chair, a typed document and a window into another room in which the subject sits guarded by two armed agents. Subject is D-18764, male, 47 years of age and specifically requested by Dr. Lucas due to his conviction. The subject has also been infected with a tapeworm prior to the experiment and appears highly irritable. SCP-XXXX is directed to sit in front of the window. Dr. Lucas stands by the object.
Dr. Lucas: “This test consists of two parts, SCP-XXXX. I’m sure you’ve noticed the presence of SCP-XXXX-3 in the other room, we’re about to inject it into D-18764. When we do, I want you to trigger some kind of… visual response from the subject, just so we know you can.”
SCP-XXXX: “I don’t know, that just seems cruel.”
Dr. Lucas directs SCP-XXXX to read the document on the desk. Dr. Allegra was reported to have looked puzzled but did not intervene. Dr. Lucas takes the document away from SCP-XXXX before it finishes reading, noticing it looks distressed.
Dr. Lucas: “Does it still seem cruel?”
SCP-XXXX does not respond. Dr. Lucas uses a speaker system on the wall to address D-18764 directly.
Dr. Lucas: “D-18764 do you feel remorse for your past actions?”
D-18764 does not react at all to Dr. Lucas’ question but turns his head towards SCP-XXXX. The object looks repulsed and asks permission to leave, permission is denied but Dr. Lucas rests his hand on SCP-XXXX’s shoulder to keep it calm. One of the armed agents beside D-18764 produces a syringe filled with SCP-XXXX-3, at the sight of this D-18764 is aggravated even further and has to be held down by the other agent.
Dr. Lucas: “I'll add for the sake of the logs that by proving to SCP-XXXX that D-18764 is worthy of punishment it is more likely to co-operate. You know what to do, SCP-XXXX.”
SCP-XXXX remains silent and the sample of SCP-XXXX-3 is injected into D-18764’s upper arm. For about sixty seconds, D-18764 experiences no changes. SCP-XXXX also remains unchanged however after nearly two minutes of no reaction, tears begin to stream down D-18764 face. D-18764 devolves into convulsive sobs and the subject collapses on the floor.
Dr. Lucas: “Well, that is what I asked for… Leading on from that, perhaps you also noticed-“
SCP-XXXX: “A tapeworm, in his gut.”
Dr. Lucas: “Right, would you persuade it to vacate itself?”
//Within a minute, D-18764’s sobs turn into chokes. A three meter long tapeworm emerges from the subject’s oesophagus followed by a large volume of bile.
Dr. Lucas: “Alright, we got what we came for. You can leave now, SCP-XXXX.”
The subject is restrained and dragged from the room by both guards to quarantine until his SCP-XXXX-3 infection can be cleared. SCP-XXXX is quick to exit and join the agent sent to return it to containment as a decontamination team enters to disinfect both rooms. Dr. Lucas lingers outside the rooms, but leaves when Dr. Allegra comes to meet him.

Experiment Log XXXX-A2
The following is a transcript from the second experiment concerning SCP-XXXX, this one designed by Dr. Allegra. The setup is identical to that referenced in Log XXXX-A1 with a different subject. This subject is D-18903: female, 37 years of age, chosen as she has been unvaccinated since birth. The subject has been infected with smallpox prior to the experiment in order to test SCP-XXXX's ability to sense and communicate with non-parasitic pathogens.
SCP-XXXX enters the room followed by Dr. Lucas. Behind the window in the second room D-18903 enters followed by one armed guard. D-18903 is weeping which appears to put SCP-XXXX on edge however this time Dr. Lucas does not try to comfort it and instead seems distressed himself.
Dr. Lucas: "SCP-XXXX what do you sense?"
SCP-XXXX: "I… don't understand the question."
Dr. Lucas: "Can you see anything SCP-XXXX?"
SCP-XXXX: "No. Nothing. I can't see any-"
Dr. Lucas: "Of course you can't see anything, SCP-XXXX, how could you see anything?"
Dr. Lucas turns to glare at the camera while he moves to bring SCP-XXXX away from the window, it should be noted that this camera is the one through which Dr. Allegra is observing.
Dr. Allegra calls off the experiment. D-18903's weeping has progressed into a full episode of hysterics as she realises SCP-XXXX is unable to cure her, her dialogue has been removed from the log as it was deemed unimportant. SCP-XXXX is hesitant to leave but is pulled from the room by Dr. Lucas before it can be uncooperative. D-18903 is forcibly detained and taken away to be terminated. A de-contamination team enters to disinfect both rooms.

Document XXXX-A201
The following is a transcript of a meeting between Dr. Lucas and Dr. Allegra to discuss the execution of the experiment described in Experiment Log XXXX-A2.
Dr. Allegra: "Good evening Jeremiah-"
Dr. Lucas: "Don't you dare 'Good evening Jeremiah' me."
Dr. Allegra: "I don't know why you're acting this way, what's gotten into you?"
Dr. Lucas: "You know exactly what's gotten into me. You had a woman, a real living woman infected with smallpox and then had her killed when you were done and for what?"
Dr. Allegra: "Firstly, Dr. Lucas, that woman was a convicted violent criminal, she didn't deserve to live."
Dr. Lucas: "You don't have the right to judge that. We both knew the results of that experiment, we knew SCP-XXXX wouldn't be able to do anything against a virus, nor anything other than a parasite for that matter."
Dr. Allegra: "We assumed, Jeremiah, we didn't know for sure. We had to know for sure."
Dr. Lucas: "You mean you had to know for sure-"
Dr. Allegra: "Picture the scenario, Jeremiah. We never check SCP-XXXX's ability to communicate with other pathogens. One day it decides it's unhappy for whatever stupid reason with us, with the Foundation, with humanity in general perhaps and digs into its little bag of tricks and pulls out some long forgotten apocalypse-inducing disease and there's absolutely nothing we can do because we never knew it could do that. The only reason SCP-XXXX breached containment in the first place was exactly that, we didn't know it was able to. Yes, we've got it secure for now but SCP-XXXX is still growing, it is absolutely vital that from now on we keep up with every single anomalous property we have even a sliver of reason to believe it has."
Dr. Lucas: "Fine, but you didn't have to use a human and even if you did there are other viruses, why couldn't you have used a non-lethal varient?"
Dr. Allegra: "I used whatever resources were immediately available at the time. A suitable D-Class candidate was available and I am not going to wait nor waste time writing extra paper work in order to gain access to a less severe virus for the sake of a criminal that's going to die anyway."
Dr. Lucas doesn't respond. He gets up to leave while Dr. Allegra appears to return to her tasks.
Dr. Allegra: "Jeremiah?"
Dr. Lucas: "What?"
Dr. Allegra: "Could you check on SCP-XXXX before you go home tonight?"
Dr. Lucas: "You of all people don't have to ask me to do that."
Dr. Lucas leaves the room.

Experiment Log XXXX-A3
The following is a transcript from an informal experiment organised by Dr. Allegra and carried out by Dr. Lucas to test SCP-XXXX's ability to sense parasites that do not have a representative in SCP-XXXX-1. In order to investigate this, SCP-XXXX has been taken to the end of the safe zone surrounding the quarantine area for instances of SCP-3368 in this facility. A notable conversation that transpired after the experiment is also contained in this log.
Dr. Lucas: "Alright SCP-XXXX you know the drill, do you see anything in that direction?"
Dr. Lucas points in the general direction of the quarantine area.
SCP-XXXX: "I can see a lot of things Dr. Lucas, you're going to have to be more specific."
Dr. Lucas: "Parasites, it's always parasites, don't be a brat."
SCP-XXXX: "Depends how far you want me to look."
Dr. Lucas appears exasperated while SCP-XXXX smiles to itself. Dr. Lucas crouches down on one knee and uses both arms to indicate the general area.
Dr. Lucas: "Can you see any parasites in that general direction within a range you would consider to be inside this building. Don't you dare say you don't know how big the building is."
SCP-XXXX: "I can see a hazy cloud where you're pointing but I feel like it's just out of reach. I don't think I can talk to them, though I suppose it's alright since there's plenty of them they wouldn't be lonely."
Dr. Lucas: "Alright well that's a pretty conclusive result- wait what do you mean?"
SCP-XXXX: "Well it's good that they're not lonely. But it doesn't matter, if they were lonely, I would invite them in."
Dr. Lucas: "I'm afraid I'm going to need you to expand on that SCP-XXXX."
SCP-XXXX: "I'd invite them in, so they wouldn't be lonely anymore."
Dr. Lucas: "Where are you inviting them into?"
SCP-XXXX: "Into my family, if that's the right word. Dr. Lucas where are your family?"
Dr. Lucas: "That's a rather personal question. They're far away."
SCP-XXXX: "Oh, but then who will look after you?"
Dr. Lucas: "Excuse me?"
SCP-XXXX: "Who will look after you, if you can't look after yourself?"
Dr. Lucas: "SCP-XXXX I'm an adult, I can look after myself. I'd prefer you didn't speak like that."
SCP-XXXX: "Sorry."
Dr. Lucas and SCP-XXXX both begin to walk back to its containment chamber.
SCP-XXXX: "Dr. Lucas, would you like me to make room for you? In XXXX-01?"
Dr. Lucas: "That's… kind… of you, but SCP-XXXX I don't think I'd be able to fit inside your head."
SCP-XXXX: "Oh of course not, but if you'd let a few XXXX-3 inside your bloodstream I could learn enough to store a convincing copy of you, just in case."
Dr. Lucas: "And in what case… would I need this copy?"
SCP-XXXX: "Well if your body was destroyed but it wasn't time for your soul to go home yet. You don't need to look so worried, I'm very good at making copies of things."
Dr. Lucas: "But why would you go out of your way to do that?"
SCP-XXXX: "It only seems fair, you've made room in your mind to remember me, haven't you?"
Dr. Lucas: "Well yeah, but I don't see how that's useful to you."
SCP-XXXX: "You know I can't tell you why. I know you record everything and I value my own preservation. Just know you're being very generous, even if it's not consciously… or of your own free will."
A long period of silence passes, spanning at least seven minutes.
SCP-XXXX: "Do you want a space, Dr. Lucas?"
Dr. Lucas: "I- I'll think about it."
SCP-XXXX was returned to containment without event.
