Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5487 is to be contained within a 15x15x15 meter lead cube, with 2 inch thick walls. If at any time site sensors indicate that any part of the wall begins to become thin, personal are to enter in hazmat suits and scrub the section of the wall with bleach, then instate a new lay of lead to the section. Under no circumstances are personal ever to make direct skin contact with either the inner walls or SCP-5487's dial, unless it is approved by no less than a two-thirds vote from O5-Command. SCP-5487's dial must also be maintained at a level of 3, and any changes to the setting unauthorized are to be immediately reported to the nearest superior. If at any time a crack develops in the cube, all personal are to immediately evacuate the vicinity.
Description: SCP-5487 resembles in similar apearence the United States World War II Nuclear Bomb, the Fat Man, with the exception of have a modern locker dial set on the right side of SCP-5487's hull, which has been designated SCP-5487-1. SCP-5487-1 has been determined to be the measurement of how powerful SCP-5487 is in megatons. If SCP-5487-1 is turned below a level of 3, SCP-5487 will begin to emanate a greater than normal amount of radioactive gas, and has been able to kill any unprotected organisms from brief exposure, even after only █████████. Due to this, it is imperative that SCP-5487-1 never be set to below 3.
SCP-5487-1's levels have been calculated to be potentially unlimited, as even when SCP-5487-1 reaches past level 500, it remained rotatable. For this reason, a level no higher than 100 is to be set, unless authorized by administration staff or a member of O5-Command.
When a level is chosen, SCP-5487-1 will gain the ability to be pressed like a button. Upon being pressed, SCP-5487 will begin a 5 minute countdown, during which radiation levels around it will cease as it goes into an activated state. Upon the timer running out, SCP-5487 will create a nuclear detonation equal to the amount of megatons SCP-5487-1 was set to. However, no matter the strength of the blast, SCP-5487 itself will remain undamaged, as the item itself is completely indestructible.
Attempts have been made to remove SCP-5487-1 from SCP-5487, which only result in failure.
Addendum 5487-a: Experimentation re: SCP-5487 's effects and SCP-5487-1's maximum megaton level
1. EXPERIMENT A: Level 1 setting.
Upon detonation, the entire area was cloaked in radioactive gas, and every living thing with a 3 km radius of SCP-5487 died instantly, and all the surround forest within 1 km turned to ash. Fallout scrub efforts are still on going.
It is within everyone's best interest that SCP-5487-1 is to NEVER be turned to a level below 3 again! The potential lose of life is unquestionable. - Dr. ████
2. EXPERIMENT B: Level 10 setting.
SCP-5487 detonates as if it were a standard Fission warhead. 10 km of forest was completely flattened, and all life with 1 km was vaporized. SCP-5487 itself was undamaged.
3. EXPERIMENT C: Level 50 setting.
SCP-5487 detonates with the force of the Russian nuclear device Tsar Bomba. 30 km of forest was completely flattened, and all life with 5 km was vaporized. Windows all across the North American continent were shattered. SCP-5487 was still undamaged.
4. EXPERIMENT A: Level 100 setting.
SCP-5487 detonates with the force of a Hydrogen bomb, which was a change in SCP-5487's behavior. 50 km of forest and an entire hill top were completely flattened, and all life with 25 km was vaporized, including the testing team. SCP-5487 was still undamaged. Testing discontinued.
