Item #: SCP-4597

Object Class: Euclid Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4597 is to be kept in a 2.5m by 2.5m by 2m standard containment chamber chamber with walls lined with 2cm thick steel with nine (9) LED lights affixed to the ceiling. No shadows with a total area of .2m are to be cast from any object and the room must be lit at all times at no lower than 100 lux. Daily checks are to be performed by staff to make sure all lights are functional. If a light is observed to be faulty or burned out, it must be replaced immediately to prevent SCP-4597 from escaping containment. SCP-4597 is to be permitted food or small toys if asked for.

Description: SCP-4597 is a juvenile bombay cat (felis catus; female) measuring about 30cm in height and weighing about 4.5kg. SCP-4597 is intelligent and, while not capable of speaking, can understand human speech and write using its claws to scratch letters into soft surfaces. Currently, the entity is known to understand and write in 6 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and an unknown language consisting of many symbols. Research is ongoing to study and translate these symbols, yet it has proven unsuccessful thus far. (See addendum 4597-2).

SCP-4597 has the ability to "travel between shadows". If it enters an area illuminated by less than 60 lux, it will appear completely invisible to the human eye1, with only its eyes remaining. If SCP-4597 closes its eyes while in this area, it can then instantaneously travel to another area of similar brightness up to 15 meters away. Though capable of easy escape if not carefully contained, the entity will often reappear 1-2 hours later somewhere within Site-██. In the event that SCP-4597 escapes containment, personnel are to search all of Site-██ until the entity is found and transport it back to its containment chamber, making sure to keep lights pointed at it at all times.

Addendum 4597-1:
SCP-4597 was discovered in █████████, NY, after the death of its original owner, █████ L█████, age 26, who died in a fatal car crash. It was spotted by neighbors writing messages in the lawn, and when animal control arrived and captured the entity, it was spotted in the same place the next day. Below are some of the messages written in the lawn over a period of 2 weeks.

When the Foundation was notified of this behavior, a recovery team was dispatched. The entity had etched into the dirt the words, "He is safe at the foundation. I'll see him there." and allowed itself to be contained without incident or struggle.
Note from Researcher ██████: Maybe the entity believes that its owner is being contained near Site-██, which is why it always goes there? Could be a plausible theory.

Addendum 4597-2:
As of ██/██/2███, 3 symbols have been successfully identified from SCP-4597's unknown language.
One symbol depicting an owl has been identified as an ancient Egyptian hieroglyph for the letter M.
One symbol depicting a vertical line with a smaller line cutting diagonally through the center at a 12° angle has been identified as a rune from a runic alphabet (used to write Germanic languages before the adoption of the Latin alphabet) for the word "need".

Addendum 4597-3:
All interviews involving SCP-4597 are to be conducted inside of its containment chamber. SCP-4597 is to be given a small sandbox to write in. Keep in mind that SCP-4597 does not actually speak, so all statements made by it in interviews are in writing. A translator is to be present in the room as well.

Interviewed: SCP-4597
Interviewer: Dr. Richard ██████

<Begin Log>

Dr. ██████: Hello, SCP-4597. I am Doctor ██████. I am here to ask you a few questions.

SCP-4597: I would be glad to answer, but please, call me by my real name. (French) It is rude to address someone by a number.

Dr. ██████: I am sorry. What is your name?

SCP-4597: (Spanish) My name is [REDACTED].

Dr. ██████: Is that the name that your owner gave to you?

SCP-4597: (German) Yes, isn't it a lovely name? █████ was a wonderful man. He was always so good with other animals.

Dr. ██████: Would you mind writing in English only? It would just be much easier and more convenient for me.

SCP-4597: Of coarse, sir. My apologies.

Dr. ██████: No need to apologize. Anyways, about Mr. L█████, did he know about your abilities before he died?

SCP-4597 sits still for 8 seconds before resuming.
SCP-4597: He isn't dead… I know he isn't. He's here.

Dr. ██████: What do you mean? He was killed in the car-

SCP-4597 hisses and begins writing in unknown symbols.

Dr. ██████: SCP-4597. SCP-4597! [REDACTED]!
SCP-4597 does not respond to Dr. ██████, visibly getting more and more panicked while it writes. The interview was terminated due to lack of cooperation by SCP-4597.

<End Log>

Closing Statement: SCP-4597 seems to believe that its owner is here at the foundation. It gets distressed when its owner's death is mentioned, constantly denying this fact and writing in its unknown language. After the interview concluded, SCP-4597 requested a small plastic mouse with catnip. Request was approved.

Addendum 4597-4:
SCP-4597-A is an incorporeal manifestation of █████ L█████; the original owner of SCP-4597. SCP-4597-A has yet to cause harm to any structure or staff, yet has aided in escape attempts by SCP-4597. The entity seems to only manifest when SCP-4597 becomes agitated or upset, attempting to calm it or help it escape. As of ██/██/2███, SCP-4597-A has contributed in 7 escape attempts by dimming the lights in the containment chamber or [DATA EXPUNGED].
