Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a secure room, mimicking that of a primary school classroom. The room must contain at least two whiteboards and at least nine (9) whiteboard style dry erase markers. Constant visual must be kept with SCP-XXXX, though both direct and indirect visual contact will be sufficient. Dry erase markers must be tested once per day; should a marker have dried out, it must be replaced immediately.
Description: SCP-XXXX resembles an Expo-style whiteboard dry erase marker, not unlike those found in a school classroom, and produces markings on surfaces that are indistinguishable in substance from markings produced by normal markers. When visual contact on SCP-XXXX is lost, it falls from whatever surface it previously inhabited, regardless of attempts at non-visual restraint. The fall produces a noticeable sound.
SCP-XXXX most often falls directly below the surface it fell from or within a one (1) meter radius from the point of origin. However, it has been noted on multiple occasions that it was located over fifty (50) meters from the point of origin. Its transportation seems to have no regard for any physical boundaries, such as walls, electronics, or flesh.
Markings are produced on nearby surfaces at random. Analysis of the substance of these markings has found that it is identical to the ink substance within SCP-XXXX, although no movement was recorded in observation logs. All manner of things are produced, including drawings, words, and phrases, the most common being [redacted], [redacted], [redacted], and [redacted]. Markings can be in response to phrases or drawings produced by personnel, giving weight to the fact that SCP-XXXX may be, to some extent, sentient. These markings appear to drain the ink within SCP-XXXX.
SCP-XXXX will attempt to replenish ink by leaching from nearby sources. If in a classroom setting, SCP-XXXX will target dry erase markers first. Dry erase markers exposed to SCP-XXXX will lose ink until dry, at which point a new marker will be targeted. In any other setting, it will target human material, specifically blood and spinal fluid. Personnel exposed to SCP-XXXX have reported feeling lightheaded and nauseous, and have been reported to have vomited and fallen unconscious. Medical diagnosis reports that exposed personnel were lacking in blood content, oxygen level, and spinal fluid content. The range of this leaching effect of SCP-XXXX has, as of yet, not been tested.
When SCP-XXXX is placed in a room without a whiteboard, it is unable to create markings but still exhibits this leaching effect. If the containment room resembles that of a classroom, SCP-XXXX will target dry erase markers first in a manner similar to that of a classroom with a whiteboard, but the leaching effect will fully drain markers in [redacted] and will move on to target living material.
SCP-XXXX can change color, size, and type at will, but is always differentiated from other dry erase markers by [redacted].
Transcript of interview XXXX-1
Interviewer: Dr. h
Interviewed: D-3213
D-3213 was placed in the containment unit for SCP-XXXX for approximately 30 minutes and was tasked with observing and describing all occurrences.
<Begin log>
D-3213: This looks like my second grade classroom. I didn't know you had kids around all these weird ass things.
Dr. h: There are no children present, nor have there ever been.
D-3213: What's with this room then?
Dr. h: Please look around the room. Do you notice anything?
[Subject glances around the room for approximately 30 seconds]
D:3213: Oh, this one marker fell off the rack. Should I pick it up?
Dr. h: No. Please continue to look. What do you see?
D-3213: There are these drawings and sentences. God, I feel like these words are staring into my soul.
Dr. h: Would you please describe the images and relay the phrases that are written?
D-3213: This one over here kinda looks like a [DATA EXPUNGED], but with a little extra fluff on top. I think those are supposed to be guts or something coming out of the [DATA EXPUNGED]. It's creeping me out. [Subject moves towards another image] This one looks like a [DATA EXPUNGED]. Oh, and there's something written next to it. It says [DATA EXPUNGED]. Not super sure what that's supposed to mean. Are you guys writing random stuff all over this classroom? Where's this anomaly thing?
Dr. h: Are there any other images or phrases that you can see?
D-3213: There's one more over here, and it looks like - holy fucking shit!
Dr. h: Is there something wrong?
D-3213: This thing - it just appeared in front of my face! Like something just wrote it!
Dr. h: Was there any tool or object used to write it?
D-3213: No, no, no, it just appeared out of nowhere! Oh God, what the hell is wrong with this room?
Dr. h: What does this new drawing look like?
D-3213: It's just one word this time. It says -
[At this point, video and audio communication with D-3213 are lost. Video recordings show that the phrase written on the whiteboard prior to audio and video malfunction was [DATA EXPUNGED]].
<End log>
After the interview, D-3213 entered a comatose state for approximately ██ weeks and possessed no memory of the incident upon regaining consciousness]
Addendum XXXX-1: Certain words and drawings produced by SCP-XXXX seem to have a cognitive effect on any direct observer and also cause nearby technology to malfunction. Some markings have what appears to be a compulsory effect on certain observers. Some of these effects may force nearby people to complete a certain task, while others can evoke a trace-like state within a subject, during which they have no control over any actions they may take. All cognitive-affecting markings will cause any subject to enter a comatose state, whether it be an immediate reaction as a direct result of the marking or a delayed reaction after any compulsory effects have subsided. Upon regaining consciousness, subjects have no memory of any incident directly related to SCP-XXXX.
