Item #: SCP-4986

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4986-1 is to be kept in temperatures of 3 Kelvin or lower in an airtight container as far from populated areas as possible. Said container is to be encased in solid titanium with a ballistic glass observation window 20 cm thick. If showing any signs of movement, it is to be given extreme doses of radiation. All personnel are to wear specially designed suits to hide their scent. If any personnel are to sustain an injury that yields any amount of blood, SCP-4986 is to be monitored for the next few days for any attempt to breach containment and the personnel in question should be moved away for at least a year. If a containment breach is achieved, the site’s nuclear device should be detonated. Personnel should regularly have x-rays and be monitored for changes in health. Facility guards should have ammonic grenades and bullets. If a containment breach occurs, ammonia gas is to be flooded into the building, the floors should be made collapsible. In any event all but one of SCP-4986 are to be killed and incinerated.

Description: 4986 is an extremely aggressive organism to be contained at all costs. Currently it has been seen to follow a strict life cycle as follows.
In its nymph stage it appears as a .6 meter long tadpole-like creature with a midsection which stores nutrients and a bulbous head. In this stage it has a mouth that runs down the center and a barbed whip-like tail which it uses to bleed organisms for nutrients. If the organism in question dies then the nymph 4986 will use hidden mandibles to drink any bodily fluids in the corpse. Around this point it has an extremely adept camouflage system similar to the octopus and cuttlefish in its ability to change its color, texture, and shape which carries on to its other stages. It can easily flatten itself against floors and walls while changing its color to fit within seconds. In this level of maturity it will usually seek out a body of water to develop in, seemingly indiscriminately. In one containment breach nymphs were found inside toilets and puddles
At its pupal stage it becomes more developed with an oversized head containing a vertical mouth, long mantid-esque claws, three toed legs similar to that of a saurian, Giant dish shaped eyes, and a pear shaped body. At this time their skin is membranous but nearly indestructible and will have grown to roughly .9 meters. They will begin actively preying on humans and animals. By then they will have mostly left the water.
In its adult stage it appears as a 2 meter tall bipedal animal with more developed legs to that of its previous stage and digits underneath its claws to grasp with. Along with these the adult will have grown insect like wings capable of flight up to 50 feet. Its head will be much the same although its mouth will be of an inverted triangle shape with multiple fleshy folds and tubes leading to the ovaries. This mouth has a retractable appendage covered in a layer of flesh that will roll back to show its ovipositor. Its eyes will be on flexible stalks to the side of its head. In the center of its abdomen will be an organ it can use to sense heat and vibrations in order to catch prey.
4986 has been seen to handle door knobs and break through solid steel, and possess a sense of smell more capable than most organisms on the planet. In order to hunt prey, they have been seen to run or fly at speeds up to 112 kilometers per hour. To add to this they posses an uncanny eyesight capable of seeing through thick mist and water. Once having taken over a location 4986 will produce a quickly hardening bile as strong as concrete which they will use to reinforce their nest and a clear whitish liquid which serves to make the area toxic to any organism nearby.
If an organism poses no immediate threat to 4986 then it will lay a pod on the victim's skin in which eggs will break through the wall of the pod and the skin and enter the host. An anomalous effect will occur in which the organism which has had eggs implanted will tell no one and act in an extremely protective manner towards the creature inside them, sometimes acting in a violent manner towards those who try to harm their “children. If given the chance, the host will try and lure others to be impregnated. Once the 4986’s has developed sufficiently they will fight each other until only one is left alive, meaning generations grow stronger with each birth. Once the nymph has sufficiently developed it will crawl out of the host's mouth. Once out the host will survive and provide food and shelter for the nymph. Once it has become an adult the former host will lure others to be infected. At the time of a nest being established, a host will be forced to birth up to 200 nymphs before no longer being able to deliver and being devoured. The gestation period for 4986 is 10 days while full maturation takes 14. Although 4986 is extremely resilient to any physical damage, it is very susceptible to ammonia, which causes their mucus glands to overreact and suffocate them. If 4986 is in impossible to survive conditions it will develop an impenetrable cocoon until it can survive. In this state 4986 could theoretically survive for any amount of time. 4986 appears to have a genetic memory, meaning it remembers the experiences of their forebears allowing them to avoid things which once helped contain them.
Hierarchy consists of castes from the alpha, to the betas, to the drones, and the workers, in order from highest to lowest respectively. 4986's are asexual hermaphrodites meaning their ranks are irrespective of gender. Any caste can challenge the current alpha for control of the hive but generally lower ranks do not. The alpha will get a large share of food followed by the betas with the drones and workers fighting for scraps.

Addendum 4986-1: History

SCP-4986 was found inside an asteroid believed to have come from ██████████, one of the further known galaxies from earth. Only one instance of 4986 was found and only in its cocoon form. Most of what is known about 4986 is only known from the first, third, and fifth breach of containment. Since then 7 more breaches have occurred.
