Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Neutralized
Special Containment Procedures: All films directed by SCP-XXXX are to be falsely accredited to a different active Hollywood film director. Amnestics and conventional disinformation tactics are to be utilized to ensure this deception remains unknown to the public.
Update - 2023/01/01: Following more than three years of inactivity, SCP-XXXX has been declared neutralized.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a class B collectivist Tulpa1 that manifests itself as a film director that goes by the name "Alan Smithee." The entity's physical appearance cannot be described. It is unknown if this is due to an anomalous means of preventing observers from doing so, an amnestic affect endemic to the anomaly, or if it is simply the result of the human mind being unable to properly process the existence of the tulpa. Despite this, SCP-XXXX is fully capable of communicating verbally with humans, and is perceived by those who encounter it as being a natural and physically unremarkable individual.
Three to five times per year, SCP-XXXX will be hired by unknown means to direct a Hollywood film. It will manifest at the site of fiming, and will remain living on site until filming has concluded. For approximately 32% of its films, it will also attend the initial private screening. Outside of these times, SCP-XXXX does not exist.
Observers universally describe SCP-XXXX as a talented director who works well with actors of varying temperaments and skill sets. No other characteristic of its directing style or personality remains consistent between different eyewitness testimony, even among those who on the same film.
SCP-XXXX was first discovered in 2001, when Foundation personnel discovered that the film "The Minority Report" was being directed by a director using the name Alan Smithee. This moniker had previously been used since 1968 as pseudonym for directors wishing to distance themselves from a film they felt did not reflect their artistic vision, or that they otherwise did not wish to be associated with. Dozens of Hollywood films were credited to Alan Smithee in the 20th century, but the Director's Guild of America had previously banned the Pseudonym's use in 2000. Foundation agents were sent to investigate the situation, and were able to quickly identify SCP-XXXX due to its aforementioned physical anomalies.
Addendum: In 2013, The Walt Disney Company hired SCP-XXXX to direct three films encompassing the "Sequel" saga of the popular film series Star Wars. This was the first time SCP-XXXX had ever directed multiple films in the same film series.
The first film, "The Force Awakens," was released without notable deviation from previously observed behaviors. Following the release of the second film, "The Last Jedi," SCP-XXXX began exhibiting behaviors consistent with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. In addition, eyewitnesses reported that the entity began spending significantly higher amounts of time reading reviews and comments regarding its works on its mobile phone. As this phone does not actually exist, it is impossible to confirm this behavior for certain.
During the December, 2019 premiere of "The Rise of Skywalker," SCP-XXXX was observed by Foundation agents to be constantly staring at its phone. On three separate occasions during the premiere, the entity audibly repeated the phrase "It's happening again" multiple times before going silent. Following the screening, SCP-XXXX began weeping and refused to leave the theater. 82 minutes later, it de-manifested and has not re-manifested since.
