Object #: SCP-PLACEHOLDER
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures
Under no circumstance should equipment capable of taking photographs or videos be allowed to view SCP-PLACEHOLDER as SCP-PLACEHOLDER's anomalous properties persist through photographic means. There is no known way to negate SCP-PLACEHOLDER's effects. Should any photographic evidence of SCP-PLACEHOLDER be distributed on a large scale, SCP-PLACEHOLDER should be immediately updated to Keter classification. Efforts to prevent further distribution should be first priority for any site personnel assigned to SCP-PLACEHOLDER, further personnel should be assigned, personnel should be fluent in at least 5 different coding languages, and should be proficient in removing encoded photographs from the internet. In the event that the evidence can not be removed, a crisis scenario shall be declared. In the event of an information breach concerning SCP-PLACEHOLDER MTF Kappa-10 should be sent to re-contain SCP-PLACEHOLDER, all foundation computers should be considered as a threat. Under no circumstance should any personnel be allowed access to the internet, other than sites with no threat of exposure to SCP-PLACEHOLDER, should an information breach occur. Personnel that are stationed to SCP-PLACEHOLDER are to only be exposed to any photographs or videos containing SCP-PLACEHOLDER, only the raw code of the photographs or videos. If an information breach occurs efforts to suppress SCP-PLACEHOLDER should be continued. A PSA should be released urging all persons to not view SCP-PLACEHOLDER as well as urge all persons to not share any information on missing people, including, but not limited to, posters, last known whereabouts, or other information.
At least two armed guards should be posted outside of SCP-PLACEHOLDER's containment cell at all times in order to make sure that no person, with the exception of research subjects, gains entry to SCP-PLACEHOLDER. All research subjects are to be searched for photographic equipment, any and all equipment capable of recording or transmitting photographs or videos are to be confiscated.
DESCRIPTION
SCP-PLACEHOLDER was first found in █████, England, where ██ disappearances were reported over the duration of █ days. An investigation into the disappearances was conducted by local authorities, where SCP-PLACEHOLDER was discovered and the foundation was notified. Class C amnestics were administered to the citizens of the town. SCP-PLACEHOLDER was then brought into foundation custody. SCP-PLACEHOLDER is a missing person poster that is 21 cm wide and 29.7 cm in length. When a humanoid views SCP-PLACEHOLDER they begin to feel a sense of overwhelming dread. Subjects also report as if they are being watched, stating that they can "Feel something behind them." Approximately 40 minutes after the subject views SCP-PLACEHOLDER, SCP-PLACEHOLDER morphs to resemble the subject that viewed it. SCP-PLACEHOLDER reads "MISSING PERSON: <Subject> LAST KNOWN WHEREABOUTS: UNKNOWN" Due to the nature of SCP-PLACEHOLDER no personnel has seen this change take place.
Anywhere in the 24 hours after viewing SCP-PLACEHOLDER, the subject will disappear. Immediately after this a copy of the subject is created, labeled SCP-PLACEHOLDER-1, with the only difference being that SCP-PLACEHOLDER-1 is made out of a black, unknown, substance, and placed in a hidden, random, spot on planet Earth, limited to inhabited and developed areas of the world, with seemingly no pattern to the spot where the copy is placed. SCP-PLACEHOLDER-1 decays over the course of 3 months. 2-5 minutes after the creation of SCP-PLACEHOLDER-1 a series of clues as to SCP-PLACEHOLDER-1 is hidden, collectively labeled SCP-PLACEHOLDER-2, appear on the internet. These are suspected to appear simultaneously, though this has not been proven, SCP-PLACEHOLDER-2 is comprised of anywhere between 24 to 207 different clues. No instances of SCP-PLACEHOLDER-2 have been observed to have an IP address despite being based on the internet. SCP-PLACEHOLDER-2 must be solved before SCP-PLACEHOLDER-1 decays completely.
In the event that SCP-PLACEHOLDER-1 decays the subject is considered to no longer exist within this dimension. It is unknown whether the subject is killed after the decay of SCP-PLACEHOLDER-1. If SCP-PLACEHOLDER-1 is found the subject reappears at the location of SCP-PLACEHOLDER-1. All recovered subjects are unwilling to talk about what happened to them after they had disappeared, with the subjects often remarking that they can't. Subjects show extreme amounts of distress when questioned, similar to extreme PTSD. Subjects have not shown any improvement in mental state since exposure. If another being views SCP-PLACEHOLDER before the previous subject is found SCP-PLACEHOLDER-1 changes to resemble the new viewer, resulting in the supposed death of the previous subject. It is currently unknown how many civilians fell victim to SCP-PLACEHOLDER's properties.
Addendum: After an incident concerning MTF Officer █████ it was discovered that SCP-PLACEHOLDER's properties persist through photographic means as well as video. Because of this, SCP-PLACEHOLDER poses an extreme threat if it is distributed on a large scale. Distribution of photographs of SCP-PLACEHOLDER on a large scale is strictly prohibited and could result in extreme civilian death. Special containment procedures to be updated.
