Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX or instances of SCP-XXXX-1 should never be handled by anyone with classifications B or higher due to the possibility of the anomalous effects rendering them unfit for duty. SCP-XXXX is never to be touched directly or indirectly by any means.
SCP-XXXX itself should be kept in a glass cube of 15 x 15 x 15 cm, with strong elongated magnets in the corners keeping it in the center of a similar bigger glass cube of 20 x 20 x 20 cm so the first container does not make contact with the second one. The magnets should be aligned to repel eachother keeping a constant balance making the smaller box "float" in the larger one. This is to prevent both direct and indirect contact. The ‘double-glass’ box should be kept in a standard containment room with level 3 clearance.
SCP-XXXX is to only be removed from the box under written and signed approval of high-ranking (B-class and above) personnel. In the rare case this does happen, SCP-XXXX should be taken out by using remotely controlled droids.
Living instances of SCP-XXXX-1 should not be allowed to make any physical contact with other humans hence they might convert others into additional instances of SCP-XXXX-1 and need to be contained in a standard humanoid containment cell unless otherwise specified. Hostility and incooperativity in instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are ground for termination of the instance.
Deceased instances of SCP-XXXX-1 should be disposed of via cremation which has proven to nullify the anomalous effects caused by SCP-XXXX. Basic surgical gloves are mandatory when working with any SCP-XXXX-1 instances and the wearing of clothing that covers the personnel's skin completely, is advised.
Description: SCP-XXXX appears to be an ordinary notebook with a dark leather cover. Its dimensions are 12 x 5 x 3 cm and it weighs approximately 0.6 kg.
On the back and front of the book a text is written in deteriorated brass painted letters in German. Reading: "Das Gehirn ist der Sitz von Bewusstsein" translating to: "The brain is the seat of conscience".
During testing with D-class personnel, it has been observed that the pages of the notebook bear drawn images of neural connectomes, some of which seem incomplete or with lines that seem sketched more thinly than others. See addendum A-1 for further details.
SCP-XXXX was recovered from a library in ████, Germany by local recovery team C1 after its effects were initially reported to the german alarm number by a civilian.
When close to SCP-XXXX faint sporadic whispering, moaning and/or grumbling can be heard emanating from the notebook. The whispers, when they manifest, are always too unintelligible to understand and manifest randomly.
Once SCP-XXXX is touched by a human subject, the subjects mind rapidly starts to deteriorate. Cognitive functions are reduced to that of a toddler after a mere one (1) minute of exposure. This anomalous effect is still reflected even when SCP-XXXX is touched indirectly with for example: pliers or surgical gloves and even when touching the desk SCP-XXXX may rest on.
Affected subjects seem to bear the same effects of SCP-XXXX except only when direct skin contact is made by another humanoid. Affected subjects were dubbed SCP-XXXX-1.
Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 seem to permanently express SCP-XXXX's anomalous effects even when deceased. This even includes severed limbs and other body parts. The transition of unaffected subjects to instances of SCP-XXXX-1 seems to be instantaneous and independant on the duration the subject has exposed to SCP-XXXX.
The effect in all cases is able to kill after prolonged exposure. Autopsies were performed on the bodies of SCP-XXXX-1 instances after tests with D-class personnel. The reports showed cases from Alzheimer's disease to severe brain hemorrhaging to complete liquefaction of the subjects’ brains.
The anomalous effect of SCP-XXXX has been proven to only affect humans (Homo Sapiens Sapiens) although it has not been tested on other (humanoid) SCP’s due to safety guidelines established by Site Director B. Simmonds and the O5-council and prohibits unnecessary exposure and risk involved with SCP-XXXX both for personnel and the would-be-involved other SCP’s.
Addendum A-1:
Experiment-XXXX-A - ██/██/2019
Researcher: Dr. E. Adams
Subject: D-71029, Male, convicted for murder.
Procedure: The subject was led into a room with video surveillance and intercoms with SCP-XXXX laying on a desk and a standard issue polaroid camera and was instructed to describe the content of the notebook and take a single photograph of each of the pages.
Results: The subject sat down behind the desk and did as instructed. No abnormalities were observed at this time. The subject described the content of the pages as: "Just scribbles and lines, they seem like… paths and they intersect at some locations" while photographing the pages. "Each of the pages are similar but… they are different in the way they intertwine" the subject said. The subject continued for about 10 seconds until the subject made comments about a "very bad headache" and requested access to painkillers. This request was denied and the subject was told they would get access to painkillers after the task was complete. After which the subject complied and resumed. Soon after the surveillance cameras showed the subject had seized its task and was now staring blankly to the wall in front of it, still holding the notebook in its hands. It was instructed to resume its task again, but it only responded with incoherent crying and blabbering, seeming to be disoriented and showing signs of being frightened as if the testing chamber was new to it. Soon after, the subject and the pictures it took were taken away by extraction unit alpha, for further testing and examination. SCP-XXXX was returned to its containment cell by Containment Specialist ██████ and his team. Sidenote: The subject was crying and asking for its mother when it was taken away.
Analysis: This Experiment has showed us the effects of exposure to SCP-XXXX over 1 minute as well as given us a safe way to analyse the content of the notebook from the photographs the subject took, since the photographs do not seem to bear any anomalous effects. The photographs show what is presumed to be hand-drawn images of human connectomes, the mapped connection of neurones in the brain. Every page seems to be an entire connectome of one single person. The subject only got halfway through the book, for the rest of the pages we will need another of these tests.
Experiment-XXXX-B - ██/██/2019
Researcher: Dr. E. Adams
Subject: D-33760, Female, convicted for terrorism.
Procedure: The subject was led into a room with video surveillance and intercoms with SCP-XXXX and a standard issue polaroid camera laying on a desk with a chair in front of it and was instructed to sit down and take a single photograph of every page starting on page 51 (where the subject of XXXX-A left off). The subject was not made aware of the anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX.
Results: The subject did as instructed. It turned the pages on SCP-XXXX and photographed each individual page. After fourty-five (45) seconds the subject started to occasionally rub its forehead, yet did not make any comment. Soon after it had reached the last page of the notebook. It commented on something it was noticing and said that the last one was "magically appearing" on the final page. The subject proceeded to pick up SCP-XXXX in order to get a better look. Previously it had only touched the desk and SCP-XXXX only when turning the pages. While holding SCP-XXXX the subject started to stare right in front of itself with a blank expression on its face. Drool was dripping from its mouth at this point and it seemed unable to loosen the grip on the notebook independantly. fifteen (15) seconds later the subject collapsed onto the floor with convulsions causing it to firmly grip SCP-XXXX. Subject confirmed deceased three (3) minutes later. Subject's body was stored for autopsy and examination. Again, SCP-XXXX was returned to its containment cell by containment specialist ██████ and his team.
Analysis: This experiment has given us access to the content of the final pages of SCP-XXXX, as well as confirming that its anomalous effect can kill with prolonged exposure. Allowing us to make precautions for future testing.
Experiment-XXXX-C - ██/██/2019
Researcher: Dr. E. Adams
Subject: D-9122, Male, 19, convicted for lethal armed robbery.
Procedure: The subject was led into a room with video surveillance and intercoms with SCP-XXXX laying on a desk in front of a chair and was instructed to sit close to the notebook for 1 minute without touching the notebook or the desk, if it did not feel any change it should wait for the call of personnel, report and await further instructions. The subject was not made aware of the anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX.
Results: Subject did as it as told and sat on the chair in front of the desk and cooperatively raised its hands into the air as to make sure no part of its body touched the book or the desk. One (1) minute later, it got the all clear from the researchers. Subject was then instructed to put its hands on the table and that under no circumstance touch the notebook directly for it was told this action was ground for termination. Subject did as instructed. seventy-two (72) seconds later. The subject complained about dizziness and noted that the room was spinning. The subject was then again given the instruction to keep its hands on the desk at all times. Subject started to show violent behaviour and threatened to damage SCP-XXXX. The subject was reminded again that incooperation would result in termination of the subject. The subject then sat down again commenting that standing up would probably not be a good idea anyway considering how it felt. Fourty (40) seconds later. The subject became unresponsive to instructions and started having convulsions with foam appearing at the mouth and its eyes started rolling backwards in their sockets. Subject seemed unable to voluntarily remove its hands from the desk at this point as its muscles appeared locked up. The subject was confirmed deceased five point twelve (5.12) minutes after start of the experiment. Subject's body was stored for autopsy and examination. Again, SCP-XXXX was returned to its containment cell by containment specialist ██████ and his team.
Analysis: This shows us two things: one being that SCP-XXXX's anomalous effects are not active in an area of effect, but are solely contact based and the second being confirmed suspicion of SCP-XXXX's anomalous effects even manifesting when touching another object that is touching SCP-XXXX (indirect contact).
Experiment-XXXX-D - ██/██/2019
Researcher: Dr. E. Adams
Subject: D-83920, Male, 21, convicted for double Homicide.
Procedure: Subject D-83920 underwent medical testing before proceeding, as well having its MARS-value determined (which fortunately for testing had the maxiumum value of 2 in the subject) and had its brain scanned for its connectome. After the acquisition of this data the subject was put into a room with a chair, and a desk resting SCP-XXXX on it. Subject was instructed to pick up SCP-XXXX, open it on the last empty page and keep the page up in front of the camera in order for the researchers to witness how the pages were filled during its anomalous effects.
Results: Subject followed the instructions of the researchers, as expected the subject started to behave unpredictably, starting to whisper and brabble to itself, grasping SCP-XXXX more firmly the longer it was exposed untill eventually the subject collapsed onto the floor. Subject was confirmed deceased four point three (4.3) minutes of exposure.
Analysis: SCP-XXXX's anomalous effects seem to be independant on MARS-values as the subject that had the highest possible value was still affected. Further testing of the image that appeared on the last page, showed similar if not identical structures to D-83920's connectome. Many speculations are possible, but none of them can be accurately measured or confirmed by known methods. Until we are able to experiment further, I shall not bore anyone with just hypotheses.
Experiment-XXXX-K1 - ██/██/2019
Researcher: Dr. A. Dixon
Subject: David Jacksman, Male, 41, a person with high-functioning autism and a photographic memory which makes him able to take in many outside impulses and seperate them with a 95% correctness marge.
Procedure: The subject will make himself comfortable in a room with SCP-XXXX still in its container under surveillance by Dr. Dixon and a few of his interns. The subject will remain in the room untill the sporadic whispering manifests for him. The subject will then try to make sense of the whispers and try to make sense of all these "voices". The subject has been given a notepad and pen to write down what he heard.

x= 0:30 - Subjects seem disoriented, almost in the same state as with overconsumption of alcohol often report headaches.
x= 1:12 - Subjects became unable to speak, often reacting as a 2 year old child in response to basic questions.
x= 2:23 - Subjects experienced more loss of motor controls, became unable to stand, blink or swallow independently.
x= 3:06 - Subjects curled up into a fetal position, heartbeat raised and breathing slowed.
x= 4:16 - Subjects all experienced a seizure around this time, followed by accute brain death. Cardiac arrest >and organ failure have also been observed, these cases were presumably due to damage to the >subjects' brain stems.
