"Reality Magnet"

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP is enclosed within a Faraday cage and further isolated within a 2x2x2 meter block of solid lead, to be placed in a concrete chamber. This chamber is to be lined with rubber and the door to the chamber composed of non conductive material. Power lines, electronic devices, and other objects making use of electricity in their operation or composition are to maintain a distance of 500 m from SCP's containment chamber. Chamber is to be kept at a temperature not to exceed 100 K. Hume levels within the containment chamber are to be remotely monitored at all time, with significant fluctuations noted and reported to site administration. Levels exceeding (550) Hume and inferior to (200) Hume are to be considered a containment breach. Levels between these values are considered acceptable fluctuations. In the event of a thunderstorm in the direct vicinity of Site (17) [current containment site of SCP], all personnel must evacuate to a distance of 300 km until the storm abates. Testing of SCP is no longer permitted.

Description: SCP is a device resembling an improvised horseshoe electromagnet, with several notable differences:
- The wire composing the coil element of SCP is itself composed of an alloy of rare earth elements [21% Ytterbium, 45% Gadolinium, 32% Lutetium and 2% (SCP0986)].1.<This alloy does not posses the chemical properties of any of its' component elements, neither oxidizing nor reacting with water. This is believed to be due to the effect of SCP on its' own composition.>
- The "core" of SCP is composed of an unknown metallic substance, designated SCP-1. Samples taken from the core experience rapid nuclear decay with a half life of 21 minutes. Additionally, SCP-1 displays a violent exothermic reaction when exposed to any of the component elements of the coil. Why it does not react with the coil itself in this way is unknown.
- SCP is exceptionally small for an electromagnet of its' type, measuring only 6 cm in length. The wire composing the coil has a diameter of only 2.1 mm.
When exposed to an electrical current, SCP will begin to generate a field similar to that of an electromagnet, however instead of generating a magnetic field, SCP instead generates a Hume-Morrison alignment field with a strength of 12e^4.15 Mohumes 2.<A unit of measurement designating the number of Humes per cubic centimetre.> per amp. This field causes alignment of the Hume field in its' direct vicinity, leading to a concentration of reality and a reality stabilizing effect. In essence, the field prevents reality distortion within its' radius as long as SCP is provided with a constant electrical current. However this alignment of the Hume field causes a general weakening of the field directly adjacent to SCP's area of effect. This weakening is more severe the stronger the current provided to SCP, and can lead to non specific reality distortion in these areas at currents as low as 0.5 amps. =These distortions revert once SCP is no longer provided with an electrical current.=
See incident (SCP No)-A.
As a high strength Hume field had not yet been observed prior to the discovery of SCP, experimentation was authorized in order to determine the effects of greater Hume concentrations. Experimentation was overseen by Dr. #### Morrison and approved by O5-#.

Experiment Log SCP:
Experiments were conducted in isolation at temporary site (SCP no) to minimize potential dangers from reality distortion effects. All experiments were observed remotely and logged by Drs. Morrison and Halter. Irrelevant and unremarkable tests have been omitted from this file, for a comprehensive list, please contact site-(17) administration.

Experiment SCP- 01 05/1/09:
SCP was fed a variable current from 0.01 amps to 0.2 amps in increments of 0.01 amps in order to determine a relationship between Hume field strength and provided current strength.

Result: Current-Hume relationship established to be P=e^4.15p Morhumes per Amp (Mo/A), where P denotes Hume-Morrison field strength in Morhumes and p denotes current strength in Amps. Radius of SCP's reality stabilizing effect determined to be r=2ln1.67P, where r denotes the radius of the effect in metres and P denotes Hume-Morrison field strength in Morhumes. Additionally, SCP reality destabilizing effect is noted to have the same total volume as the reality stabilization, meaning the radius of the destabilization effect is much smaller than the radius of the stabilization effect.

Notes: none.

Experiment SCP -05 05/20/09
SCP was fed both AC and DC electrical currents in order to determine the effects of directional current on its' effects.

Result: Hume levels within SCP's area of effect were noted to undergo minor fluctuations when SCP was supplied with AC current. When fed with DC current, Hume levels rose steadily to a threshold determined by the supplied current, then remained stable.

Notes: It appears that directional current has an effect on SCP in similar fashion to an electromagnet, with AC causing SCP to generate an alternate Hume alignment field. We shall be using DC from now on, to simplify experimental protocols.

Experiment SCP -11 06/23/09
SCP was fed a current of 0.5-2 amps in increments of 0.01 amps to determine the severity of reality distortions caused by its' secondary effect.

Notable Results:
0.5 A: First noticeable reality distortions; minor optical effects including an increased refraction index of affected air and an increase in spectrum absorption in affected solids, leading to darkened colours and the appearance of mirages in SCPs' direct vicinity. Radius of affected area: 1.35m.

0.82 A: Optical distortions peak; air refractive index now at 2.3, higher than that of diamond. Air seems to "sparkle". Physical objects lose almost all perceivable colour, appearing a matte black. Spatial distortions begin to occur, instruments are no longer able to reliably determine volume of affected area. Outside measurements remain consistent. Radius of affected area: 2.04m.

1.11 A: Optical distortions destabilize; air refractive index begins to fluctuate massively at irregular intervals, spectrum absorption experiences similar fluctuation. Spatial distortions increase in magnitude, outside observers note that the interior size of SCPs' effect appears wildly inconsistent, with some areas appearing to stretch for kilometres and others centimetres. Instruments yield nonsensical results. Outside measurements remain consistent. Radius of affected area: 2.64m.

1.67 A: Optical distortions cease entirely, area appears baseline. Spatial distortions also cease. Measurements indicate that the area of SCPs primary effect has doubled in radius. Radius of affected area: 0.00m

1.68 A: Reality distortions resume with previously observed magnitude. A secondary area of reality stabilization is observed to have formed around the area of reality destabilization. An additional area of reality destabilization is observed to have formed around this area of stabilization. Radii of affected areas: 3.89m, 2.17m

Notes: The appearance of a secondary area of effect is certainly interesting. My current hypothesis is that SCP functions identically to devices of its' nature, though at a larger scale and working with a different set of fields. Essentially the new areas of effect are secondary field lines, exactly like a magnet. On a side note, the optical effects and spatial distortions would certainly make this object useful for point defense. It's almost impossible to see through the areas of distortion and trying to get through would certainly be difficult with the spatial fluctuations. I wonder what it would be like to be inside the area?

Experiment SCP -47 09/3/09
D-851216 was given sufficient supplies for a ten kilometre hike and ordered to attempt to reach the epicenter of SCPs' area of effect. SCP was supplied with a 1 A current.

Results: D-851216 collapsed immediately upon entering the destabilized area. D-851216 was affected by the optical effects of the area, turning a matte black over their entire body. D-851216 left the destabilization area despite orders to the contrary. Test aborted.

Notes: D-851216 retained alterations caused by SCP reality distortions even after SCP was no longer supplied with electricity. This is believed to be because they left the area before SCP was shut down. D-851216 developed severe photo-sensitivity, due to their eyes absorbing far more light than previously. They were also capable of perceiving light outside of the visible spectrum. D-851216 expired due to radiation poisoning 1 month after the experiment, despite never being exposed to lethal doses. -Dr. Halter.
Further testing of SCPs' reality destabilization effect on human subjects denied. -Ethics Committee.

Experiment SCP -123 06/2/10
SCP supplied with a 20 A current, to test SCP durability under increased current.

Results: Experiment ran for 300 hours. No notable effects observed outside the norm. At the conclusion of the experiment, however, SCP did not shut down after current was no longer supplied. Site was placed on high alert and SCP area of effect was quarantined. Reality distortion/stabilization abated slowly over a period of 32 hours. Hume levels returned to baseline. SCP was undamaged.

Notes: It appears that this object still holds more secrets than i had first thought. I have no real idea why its' effects persisted without an electrical current. All I can think of is that there must be more to the reality stabilization than we first thought. We've all been so focused on the distortions that we've failed to examine the effects of heightened Hume levels on reality. It's not like that's something the Foundation has encountered before, most reality altering skips make reality weaker, not stronger. This needs more testing. -Dr. Morrison.

Experiment SCP -124 [06/17/10]
SCP was supplied a current of 5 A by portable generator. Dr. Morrison remained within SCP area of effect to directly observe the effects of heightened Hume levels on reality.

Results: [REDACTED]

Notes: This test was unauthorized by site administration and performed without proper safety protocols in place, resulting in the termination of Dr. Morrison. Though the information she collected may well prove useful if the Foundation encounters other objects similar in nature to SCP, the danger posed by SCP itself has been vastly underestimated. Testing of SCP is to be halted immediately and indefinitely. -05 []

Incident (No) - (lambda)-2
On [08/17/11], a large thunderstorm reached Site (43), where SCP was contained at the time. This was noted as unusual, owing to the fact that storms of any kind were rare in the area, however it was not believed to be a cause for concern at the time. At 03:00 local time, foundation orbital Kant satellites measured a massive Hume fluctuation at Site (43), simultaneous to a loss of contact with the site. Seismographs in the area noted massive activity, identical to an earthquake measuring 8.2 on the Richter scale. MTF epsilon 9 ("Nine Tailed Fox") was dispatched to investigate. Massive reality distortions were encountered within 250 kilometres from Site (43), including spatial, temporal, gravitational, optical and biological anomalies. MTF was unable to reach Site 43. MTF Lambda 5 ("White Rabbits") were dispatched to assist Epsilon 9. Distortion abated soon after the storm and MTFs were able to continue to Site 43. Within 120 kilometres, at steadily increasing intervals, MTFs encountered chasms varying in size from 200 metres to 2 centimetres, with terrain past each chasm being displaced vertically downwards equal to the width of the chasms. Evidence of massive concussive force was also discovered adjacent to each chasm, consistent with detonation of explosives in the order of several megatons of TNT. This damage was inconsistent with the damage sustained by the terrain and appears to have been caused [REDACTED]. MTFs were unable to continue by land, helicopters were used to reach Site (43). Site was relatively intact despite extensive damage to surrounding terrain, this is posited to be a result of SCPs' primary effect. All site personnel were found dead, [REDACTED] SCP objects held [REDACTED]. SCP recovered.

After Incident Statement, Incident (no) - (lambda)-2
Fallout from the SCP incident was extensive. Information suppression in the wake of the incident was largely successful, however rumors persist online, with many questioning the narrative. Officially, the SCP incident was a volcanic eruption followed by an earthquake. Fortunately there were no witnesses to the event due to Site (43)‘s remote location, but an event of this magnitude can’t help but be noticed by almost everyone in the whole world. People heard the explosions from 700 miles away, never mind that there's a massive crater in the Earth there now where there never was before. Fortunately we've managed to erase all evidence that Site (43) ever even existed, but the loss of an entire site and its' personnel is a heavy blow even without having to cover for such a massive event. I am sorry to say this, but we cannot afford to risk such an event again. As interesting and possibly useful as SCP is, we have little choice but to remove the risk it poses permanently.
-O5-6

Following Incident (no) - (lambda)-2, the O5 council voted 8-5 to decommission SCP and SCP was exposed to temperatures exceeding the melting point of it's component metals. SCP was successfully melted down and declared neutralized, its' remains stored in high-security lockbox (no) at site (34). However, SCP was later found reconstituted within its' lockbox during routine security screening. Additionally, Hume levels around SCP were found to be elevated whenever SCP was exposed to heat.
Object class upgraded to Euclid and current containment procedures implemented.
