Item #: SCP-4868 (Placeholder)

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the highly advanced nature of 4868, physical containment by the Foundation is simply not feasible at current time due to a lack of technological and thaumaturgical capabilities. However, due to it's amenable and friendly nature towards the Foundation, containment via social engineering techniques has been successful so far.

This status will continue to be monitored and when the capabilities become available, procedures will be updated. At present, it has made no attempts to escape or breach the facility it is currently being held at, and as such is allowed restricted access to the general facility, though only with it's disguise systems active to avoid accidental exposure to non-authorized personnel. It must be escorted by at least one facility guard at all times. All activities, including co-operative research with Foundation personnel must be recorded in detail.

Our current theory is that this 'drone' and it's consciousness might be an advanced spy system with it's internal database representing a potential breach of Foundation security. As such, it should not, under any circumstances, be given access to other SCP items or sensitive data of any kind.

Description: SCP-4868 under normal circumstances appears as a male, Caucasian, human, approximately mid to late 30s, wearing simple black pants and a black t-shirt of unknown manufacture. However by it's own admittance, this is a illusory image combining holographic projection with memetic effects to make the viewer see it's image as solid rather than a light projection.

The exact mechanisms are still unclear, despite SCP-4868 voluntarily providing supposedly precise schematics for replicating the effects. At present the Foundation lacks access to several components required including several alloys of unknown origin, and the blood of an anomolous creature that, as far as is known, does not actually exist.

The memetic effects do not seem to translate via surveillance devices such as internal security cameras. On recordings, the holographic nature of it's disguise is extremely obvious and it's real structure can easily be seen underneath the translucent light projection.

When deactivating its disguise or while viewed remotely, SCP-4868's true form appears to be a humanoid made entirely out of a mercury like fluid metal identified by him as SCP-8293. The Foundation obviously does not currently have an SCP of that designation, and 4868 seems unwilling to provide any details regarding it.

The only distinguishable markings are 6 small, camera-like, lenses on what would be the face of a standard humanoid. These lenses function as it's eyes, allowing it view all known light wavelengths, three different types of radiation, and can receive both sonar and radar pulses generated elsewhere within it's structure.

It claims to be, not only from an alternate universe nearly identical to our own, but from the far future of that parallel universe. It has explained in detail it's purpose here and mission objectives; which entails saving it's world's future by assisting in preparation and development of tactics to defeat a sentient organic contagion, it calls 'Legion'.

It claims that sometime in the near future, at an unspecified time, this contagion will arrive by unknown means and subvert humanity through infection. Adding us to a hive-mind consciousness propagated by the pathogen itself.

SCP-4868 claims that when it's original departure time catches up in this world, it believes it can return to it's own world shortly after avoiding a temporal paradox in its own timeline. It refuses to give even the most minute detail of it's departure, including the approximate date or even a general location.

Despite it's claims however, there are some notable discrepancies with it's story:

First of all, it seems to have absolutely no knowledge of the O5 leadership from either world, despite claiming to have clearance that indicates it would report directly to an O5 member.

Secondly, SCP-4868 identifies itself as a copy of a Foundation level 4 scientist named Dr. Benson Ketch whom reported to 'the administrative branch' though it seems unable to give even the simplest of details about this, including it's direct supervisors or co-workers.

Researchers have likewise been unable to identify any known individual with that name at present, and tracking potential candidates for the subjects ancestors has proven fruitless, despite SCP-4868 giving a detailed family genealogy. It insists that it's family line exists in this reality, despite the lack of evidence to that end.

Thirdly, some details of its own functions seem to contradict each other. Such as the claim that the 'normal' versions of the drone can be remotely purged of neural data when cognitohazards are detected, yet claiming to skip the 'update phase' when those hazards are present (see interview 1 for details). Logically, if it were remotely purged in such an event, an update wouldn't be plausible regardless.

As such it's identity and true nature cannot be confirmed at present. Any information it provides that cannot be verified as objectively true should be considered false.

Interestingly, SCP-4868 also claims that both worlds went through a restructuring event sometime in recent history, though due to the nature of such an event, the precise timing is impossible to pinpoint. These claims are unverified and should be considered likely false due to the lack of any evidence.

- Dr. Michael Fremont, AI specialist. Advisory researcher to Gamma-13 “Asimov's Lawbringers”

Interview 1 – Preliminary arrival interview - ??/??/2017

Dr. Fremont: Good morning SCP-4868, I am-

SCP-4868: Doctor Michael Fremont. Born July 22nd 1976. Specialist in artificial
intelligence based skips. I know, I have a full personnel database included in my
data files. Please, call me Dr. Ketch.

Dr. Fremont: I see. Very well then Dr Ketch. You were located due to an attempted
brute force attack on Site-?? firewalls. Why did you attack the facility despite being
fully cooperative?

SCP-4868: Ah, yes sorry about that. It was really the quickest and most convenient
way to get your attention. Had I legitimately wanted to breach your security I can
assure you I would've succeeded.

Dr. Fremont: Ever hear of a phone call?

SCP-4868: Haha, well I suppose I could've done that. But I, or rather the original
Dr. Ketch is a firm believer in efficiency and speed. I knew an attack, coupled with
your UID call phrase for skips that involuntarily travel would take less time and
prevent a possible altercation with your task forces.

Dr. Fremont: The original?

SCP-4868: Right, down to business then. I'll give you the truncated version first
to expedite matters, then we can have a proper detailed sit down when you're not
in a rush.

Dr. Fremont: In a rush? I'm not in any-

SCP-4868: You are, you simply haven't been notified yet, shall we get started?

Dr. Fremont: Um, sure. Ok.

SCP-4868: Excellent. So let's start with the basics. First off, the device you
see before you is a Foundation, albeit not precisely you're Foundation, designed
advanced drone with para-technological and thaumaturgical components in addition
to other technologies. They were created as an SCP containment response system
that minimizes the risk of MTF member loss where they can be deployed.

Before the events that led to its, well I guess my, transport to your world and
temporal index they were successfully deployed in hundreds of operations. Though
they won't be developed here for some time yet.

On their own, while loaded with advanced Foundation equipment, they have no
cognitive function. Additionally, the complexity of the systems prevent the
development of remote control apparatus. To deploy them, the appropriate MTF
team would be brought down to the Drone lab at Site-101; which of course you
haven't constructed yet at this point in time. Not all MTFs are valid options for
this procedure. Notable exceptions such as Tau-5 and Sigma-3 of course could
not be usefully interfaced with the drones.

Each member would then go through a neural activity mapping procedure and
be put into stasis for the remainder of the operation. Those neural maps would
then be loaded into the drone, and for all intents and purposes, that team member
would become the drone's cognitive function. Any questions so far?

Dr. Fremont: Those notable exceptions, any particular reasons for that?

SCP-4868: I'm afraid I can't go into detail with you on that Doctor. You do
not have a high enough clearance to know the details of those MTF teams that
are not used. I can tell you however, one feature is due to the artificial nature of
the drone. Certain, how do I put this, skill-sets, abilities, or attributes that are
unique to them cannot be transferred merely by copying their neural data.

Dr. Fremont: I see, fair enough. So then you're not really Dr. Ketch, but a replica
of his mind? I think I follow so far.

SCP-4868: Just so. Once an operation would be completed, the drones would
return to Site-101. Their neural data would then be downloaded from the drone,
and imprinted upon the original source's own organic brain, updating the drone
user's memories. Barring any cognitohazards or memetic effects of course.

Dr. Fremont: That's an impressive fail-safe. So if I understand correctly because
the drone is, for all intents and purposes, cognitively aware and operating with a
human neural imprint, that makes it vulnerable to some known cognitohazards
and such?

SCP-4868: Absolutely yes. Which is why the neural pattern is sand-boxed in it's
own partition. The base operating system can detect nearly all cognitohazardous
and memetic effects with 99.97% efficiency.

Though it is worth mentioning, it has had no success with antimemetic effects. And,
in rare cases when there is no avoidance, we can simply remotely purge the neural
pattern and initiate a pre-programmed recall function.

In these cases where cognitohazardous effects could be translated across, or
higher-than-usual secrecy was required, the memory update phase was skipped
after the user's neural pattern was interviewed while onboard the drone.

In full disclosure, I should tell you that with this particular drone, the purge
and recall safety protocols have been completely removed for both my safety
as well as yours.

Dr. Fremont: You seem to be contradicting yourself Dr. Ketch. If the neural data
is purged remotely wouldn't an update not be poss-

[SCP-4868 interrupts Dr. Fremont mid sentence abruptly]

SCP-4868: I'm sorry Doctor but our time has come to an end for today.

Dr. Fremont: No I still have a plenty of -

[The Doctor is interrupted by his cell phone vibrating. A text message issued
from Site-?? administration requests his presence for an unrelated disciplinary
hearing of a co-worker]

Dr. Fremont: Well I'll be damned. How did you know?

SCP-4868: As I said previously, I have a copy of all Foundation records, more
specifically level 4 clearance and below electronic records. What appears to be
prediction to you Doctor, is simply recall for me.

Short story of the Arrival of SCP-4868

“Balls! I'm going to be la-” The mercury-like silver humanoid entity, it's surface marred only by 6 lenses on the head section stopped in mid sentence as it looked around it's environment, “Oh. Oh I see. I'm not me.. him.. whatever. Activate internal HUD.”

Reality seemed to visually shimmer from his perception for a moment before information started streaming before his eyes. Distances of relative objects, radiation levels, environmental readings such as temperature, barometric pressure, Hume field levels, along with millions of other variables started flashing across the screen that was his vision.

“Whoa, ok. That's a weird sensation. Begin level 1 self-diagnostic.” The stream of information immediately disappeared and a diagram of the entity's internal structure appeared in blue. Slowly as it analyzed it's systems each component became green until the whole diagram was filled in. Once completed the diagram confirmed a PASS reading before displaying a three dimensional image of a human brain, highlighting neural activity in blue. Like the previous diagram, it too slowly filled in with green until another PASS is given. Once the neural diagram faded the body diagram reappeared, this time filled in with a grid of arcane looking runes, words, and many other mystical and magical symbols from all over the world. Again, each one started out as blue, but turned green until the final PASS reading appeared.

“Nice.. I. Err, Dr. Ketch was wrong about degradation of the physical architecture. Guess we, fuck, they out did themselves.” At that point, the silvery entity realized it was talking to itself, standing in the middle of an empty road just a few kilometres away from Site-??.

Right, now the fun part. This version of the Foundation won't be happy about this, but whatever. We're saving them too. Access all available localized data devices. A radar-like interface appeared in the entity's vision and immediately began to populate with electronic devices, everything from cell towers to hard network lines within a 100 Km radius. It took a moment, as was expected from Foundation technology of the era, but finally it found what it was looking for. And now, let's kick the hornet's nest. Initiate brute force package 'signal flare'.

They traced him slightly faster than he had anticipated, less than 5 minutes later several black SUVs came speeding down the dark road. He almost didn't have time to activate his exterior camouflage; it was certainly possible, depending on which MTF they sent, that they may have caught sight of the transformation, but the disguise was more for their comfort then his obfuscation.

His new appearance, a caucasian man in his mid to late 30s wearing only simple black pants and a tight black t-shirt, waited patiently as the vehicles ground to a halt in front of him. He watched with mild amusement as the MTF team deployed and started demanding he drop to the ground immediately.

“Standard variant spell-eater rounds, cognitohazard filtering, demon armour. Good good, everything seems right.” He responds, blatantly ignoring their commands, “I don't mean to be rude ladies and gentlemen but I promise you, your equipment will be ineffective against this drone. I am, however, here to surrender peacefully to the Foundation. Security phrase, Exeter-Wanderlust-Vegas.”

One of the heavily armed figures immediately radioed in the security phrase, there was a pause, then a response was issued via the radio, “Traveller-type SCP, your code phrase is recognized. Behemoth-Temple-Kikergaard. MTF Gamma-13 will escort you.”

“Excellent! Code phrase also recognized, thank goodness I made it to the right one. And the Lawbringers no less. It's truly an honour to meet you.” He nodded in respect to the assemblage of personnel before him.

“Escort the entity back to Site-?? immediately. No restraints if it is fully cooperative.”

“Uh, are you sure control?” The operator of the radio asked with surprise, “We're getting high levels of residual reality displacement in the immediate area and this guy's EM output is on par with major power grid substation.”

“Confirmed Gamma-13. A research team will be dispatched to ensure local reality integrity. You have your orders.” Came the response.

“Understood control. Sir, if you would please come with us.” He redirected his attention to the strange man.

“But of course. And please, call me Dr. Ketch.” He smiled brightly before following the MTF team back to their vehicles.
