An explosion could be heard off in the distance, Site-39 has detonated its onsite alpha warhead after its most recent breach, A doctor could be seen running towards the site’s safe house, It hasn't been used in years. As he reached the door of the safe house, Parts of the building crumbled down from the shockwave of the explosion.
The doctor entered after unlocking the door with his keycard, the room was desolate, it seemed to have been looted and or the supplies have decayed, He flipped a switch near the front door, Nothing, he tried again and again before giving up.
“I guess the generator is out…” Says the man in a hushed tone
He walked to a second door near the back of the room and opened it. It was a storage closet with a generator sitting snugly in the back behind some shelves. He pulled it out and started it. The lights sputtered to life. He left the closet and went to a table that held an old computer, the tech from the ’40s, it's been ten years since this shelter was last used. He powered it on and typed in his password, The screen showed three options, A log, Contact the nearest emergency site, And of course, Broadcast location. He pressed Broadcast location and even attempted to contact the emergency site but nothing happened, He slammed his fist down angrily, thinking he was stuck.
“Great, does nothing work around here!?” He said in anger
He decided to head to the roof to see if anything was damaged, As he climbed the ladder he saw a man in a grey suit and a fedora standing near the edge, He started to climb back down before the man noticed, But suddenly the man spoke.
“The view is beautiful… Is it not?” Says a man in a gray suit.
The doctor was confused, how could he sense someone so close but yet so far?
“W-what?” Asked the doctor before climbing onto the roof
The man didn't reply and instead moved from the center of the building and shifted to the side a little, The doctor approached cautiously, and stood beside him.
They were standing a few feet apart on the roof of the sites safe house
The doctor sighed with relief as he slowly sat down.
“It's nice to smell fresh air again… I've been underground for a while now.”
“Yes, It does get rather hard to breathe down there, At least I'm lucky enough to leave when I need to.”
The man in the suit handed a letter over to the doctor.
“What's this?” The doctor asked
“Well… its a note for your director, I know we only just met after that tragedy, but… its important that when they come to get you, you give them it.” Replied the man in the suit.
Distant sirens could be heard, most likely a rescue team heading to the site after the breach. The man in gray stood and fixed his tie.
“It's time I left, good luck out there.”
And with that, he was gone, A convoy could be seen in the distance, kicking up a dust cloud on the sandy desert road, One of the trucks pulled off of the road and headed towards the building the doctor was at, the rest proceeded towards the smoke rising from the south.
As the truck rolled to a stop, three armed men got out and pointed guns at the doctor, shouting at him to put his hands up. The doctor did so without question, Two of the three men stayed on the ground as the other climbed the roof and approached from behind.
“Who are you, what's your clearance level?” Asked the man in combat gear.
“Doctor Clark, Clearance level three… just please don't hurt me…” He said in fear
The Operative got the man up and took him to the truck, They all climbed in and drove to the closest site.
Two hours later
As they arrived and the gate opened to let them in, Clark spoke
“Where are we?”
“We are at site-45, a backup for site-39” responded an MTF operative.
They drove to the front and parked, they all got out and walked inside, Two men in suits met them at the front gate
“We will take it from here,” Said the man in the black suit
The MTF handed Clark off to them and walked away, Clark seemed nervous as he was taken into Sector [REDACTED]. He was taken to an interrogation room and told to sit, so he did.
“What do you know about site-39?” Asked one of the men in suits
“All I know is I was tasked with working on SCP’s, I don't know anything else I swear!”
The two men spoke to each other and another man walked into the room, he was wearing a white shirt and black pants, he had body armor on and a pistol in a holster under his right arm.
"Hello Dr. Clark, My name is Agent Shepard, I am here to talk with you about site-39."
"A-Alright..?"
The two men talked for a while before Clark remembered the note.
"W-Wait I have something for the director, A man gave it to me when I was in the safe house."
He took out the small letter and handed it to the agent, he looked it over slowly and then handed it off and whispered to one of the other men, they left the room leaving Clark alone. An hour passed before Agent Shepard returned.
"Where did you get that note from again?"
"A strange man in a gray suit and fedora gave it to me right before the MTF operatives got there, I didn't read it, he just said get it to my director…" said Clark nervously
Agent Shepard stood still, thinking of how to deal with this situation.
"What you gave to me is important, We might need you for more information, stay here"
Shepard left the room
A few more hours pass and two guards walk in, they then seize Clark and grab him, dragging him to a holding cell, The door closes leaving Clark on the cold concrete floor. Time passed, was it days? Hours?, Clark couldn't tell as he paced back and forth in his cell, The cell door finally opens and Clark stands there scared.
“What do you want from me?!” he yelled.
A man in a pitch-black suit walked in, Two guards followed.
“My name is Director Smith, I am the Research divisions Director, otherwise known as your boss, What you brought to us should be classified, I'm sure Shepard told you that you will be used to get in contact with this “Nobody,” said the man
“A-alright, if it means getting out of here…”
Clark followed the man to a storage facility, He pushed Clark in and closed and locked the door.
“Once you come in contact with this, Man… we will let you out, Good luck!” Said the director through the door.
Clark seemed nervous, doing it outside was weird enough, now doing it within a controlled environment? That seems unlikely, He walked to a wall and sat down against it, a hour passed and suddenly the man appeared out from behind some crates. He walked over and put out his hand.
“Hello, again Clark. I see you're in a predicament here, So I am here to offer you some help.”
Clark slowly got up, taking the man's hand, He smiled.
“I accept whatever help you'll give me”
The man grinned, A table appeared behind him, He walked over and sat his briefcase down, opening it revealing a suit and tie, a fedora, and a wristwatch. Clark was confused.
“Of course it is a proposition… You see… My time is almost up, I need someone to take my place as “Nobody”, and I feel like you will be a good fit.” said the man
“I-I don't know what to say…, What do you even do?” Asked Clark
“I am a protector, someone who is part anomaly myself, I make sure no one oversteps the boundaries set by the government.” responded the man
Clark was confused yet again
“I accept the offer…”
The man smiles and hands him the briefcase, Clark gets changed and puts on the watch and fedora, The suit adjusted to his size. Clark looked at himself in amazement.
“The watch will let you open portals between worlds and dimensions, Use it wisely and be careful”
The man turns around and starts to leave
“W-wait! What do I do now? My boss needs to see you.”
“Well… you see Clark, there is no me, and there is no you, We are “Nobody”, You can speak to him, just like I have to you, Goodbye for now Clark, I'll come to check on your progress before my time.”
And with that, he was gone.
