Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be accommodated in fully furnished living quarters at Site-35-C. By direct instruction from the O5 council (see Addendum XXXX-A), SCP-XXXX's living quarters are to be guarded by no less than 5 armed guards at all times. A geostationary satellite is to constantly monitor the area for unauthorized activity. Mobile task forces Tau-03 and Xi-07 are to be stationed adjacent to SCP-XXXX's living quarters.

SCP-XXXX is the designation that was given to Dr. Manish Basnet upon the discovery of his anomalous properties. Upon traversing a portal linking two dimensions, SCP-XXXX begins to reverse them. Immediately, the dimension SCP-XXXX enters begins transforming into the one it just left, and vice versa. This dimensional reversal propagates outward from the portal at an accelerating rate.¹ When interviewed, SCP-XXXX claims ignorance of the processes that cause this effect. Testing has revealed that dimensional reversal only occurs when SCP-XXXX enters an existing portal, but not when a portal is created around SCP-XXXX.
The rates of dimensional reversal on either side of the portal are non-symmetric, and the dimension with a lower Hume value near the portal will experience much more rapid reversal.

Yes, we appreciate that this is a lot of resources to secure a man who has never so much as gotten a speeding ticket, but that's not the point. He could score a goddamn 100 on the MOE² for all we care. If a hostile entity were to abduct SCP-XXXX and take him to SCP-2935 or any similarly unsavory dimension, we're royally screwed. That being said, in the even that he is abducted, his loyalty may still be of some importance. Make him comfortable.

[At Site-81, Dr. Algarotti is instructing Dr. Basnet in the basics of interdimensional travel. Transcription begins briefly before they enter the portal to SDJ-034d.³](SEE NOTE 2)

Dr. Algarotti: Ready?

Dr. Basnet: Ready as I'll ever be, I suppose. Any last instructions?

Dr. Algarotti: Be courteous and silence your cell phone.

Dr. Basnet: You're hilarious. Wouldn't that be something if I received a call while on a different planet?

Dr. Algarotti: Nah, it would probably just be a telemarketer. They always manage to find you.

Dr. Basnet: [rolls eyes]

Dr. Algarotti: Right, let's hop to it! We'll walk through together. On 3. 1… 2… 3!

Dr. Basnet: Jesus! [stumbles momentarily] What's the gravity here?

Dr. Algarotti: 1.6g. Sorry, I forgot to warn you.

[The conversation pauses as Dr. Basnet collects himself.]

Dr. Basnet: [Walking forward while looking up at the planet's moon] Who knew a wasteland could be so beautiful?

Dr. Algarotti: Breathtaking, isn't it? Would you care to carve your name into the sandstone along with the rest of them? There's quite a few of them by n…

[Dr. Basnet turns around to see Dr. Algarotti vanish before his eyes. Where Dr. Algarotti stood, and spreading outward from the portal in every direction, is the recognizable clean tile flooring of Foundation Site-81. It continues outward, accelerating. Fearing he may vanish as well, he turns to run from the oncoming front of tiles, but he is too slow, and the wall of training room 231 materialized inches in front of his face.]

Dr. Basnet: Fuck! What the fuck is going on!?

[Dr. Basnet's walkie-talkie comes to life, and he hears Dr. Algarotti's voice.]

Dr. Algarotti: Manish, return through the portal ASAP, I repeat, get your ass back through that portal now!

[Dr. Basnet turns and sprints through the portal. Once through, he comes face to face with Dr. Algarotti.]

Dr. Basnet: [clearly shocked at seeing Dr. Algarotti] Lawrence!? What the hell is happening!?

Dr. Algarotti: Not now! [turns to address the portal controller] Close that portal now, dammit!

[Portal closes, and Dr. Algarotti turns to examine the ground. After about 15 seconds, he appears satisfied, and turns to address Dr. Basnet.]

Dr. Algarotti: Are you okay?

Dr. Basnet: Am I okay?! You're the one that fucking vanished!

Dr. Algarotti: Yes, about that, I sincerely apologize. [Pauses momentarily] I don't suppose you got a chance to carve your name.

Addendum XXXX-C: Interview

Interview XXXX-1

Interviewed: Dr. Algarotti and Dr. Basnet

Interviewer: Site-81 Director

Foreword: The director enters the room in which Dr. Algarotti and Dr. Basnet are already seated.

Director: Right, let's get started. Would you two like to explain what happened this morning?

Dr. Algarotti: Sure thing. I was training Manish here how to safely enter a portal. We did everything according to standard procedure.

Director: If that's the case, why is there a 3 meter radius circle of alien sandstone in training room 231?

Dr. Algarotti: Well, I suppose it started as soon as we crossed through. We didn't notice it right away, because we weren't looking at the ground by the portal. It appears that our reality and the reality on the other side began to trade places. Manish and I noticed about the same time, the instant when I was seemingly teleported back to the training room. Or, more accurately, erased from existence in that reality and recorporealized in this one. Funny, I didn't get so much as a headache fro- [Dr. Algarotti stops midsentence and his eyes go wide].

Director: Algarotti? What's wrong? Speak up!

Dr. Algarotti: [Swallows hard] I… uh… I just realized. Only things within 3 meters of the portal were rematerialized in the training room. According to Lawrence here, much more of the training room was recreated in the other world. I was standing just a bit less than 3 meters away from the portal. If I had taken just a few steps forward, I would have been erased from existence entirely.

Dr. Basnet: And if I had taken a few steps forward, I would have been outside the locked training room, unable to get back to the portal.

Director: The rest of the facility would have eventually materialized and staff would have opened the door.

Dr. Algarotti: The rest of th- Shit! Are there two lizards now!?

Dr. Basnet: Two liza- Wait, 682 is here!?

Director: [Glaring at Dr. Algarotti] Basnet, what flavor of amnestics do you prefer? [addressing Dr. Algarotti] Algarotti, I don't want anyone else opening another portal to SDJ-034d. Put another anchor in there. I want that room at an absolute minimum of 125 Humes, understand? If that portal spontaneously reopens, it could be the end for Site-81. [Addressing Dr. Basnet] Basnet.

Dr. Basnet: Yes, director?

Director: If I'm understanding correctly, the reversal quickly overtook both you and Algarotti. He was teleported back to this side of the portal, but you weren't. Why not?

Dr. Basnet: How should I know? Well… I mean… unless maybe I-

Dr. Algarotti: [adopting a serious tone for the first time in the proceedings] The only explanation is that Manish is what caused the reversal. At first I thought the reversal ceased when the portal closed. But then I looked at the security footage. The reversal stopped the instant Manish came back through the portal. There were no anomalous items on his person, and he was wearing a standard uniform for the procedure. So we must concl-

Dr. Basnet: No no no, there's got to be another explanation!

Dr. Algarotti: [slapping Manish on the back] I hate to say it, ol' boy, but you're a regular anomaly.

Director Basnet, this was your first time entering a portal, yes?

Dr. Basnet: [flustered] Frankly, I don't see wha… [pauses and takes a deep breath] yes, sir, yes it was.

Director Basnet, I want you to return to your quarters. Until we have a better handle on things, you are not to engage in any research activities outside of your office. Neither of you two are to tell anyone what happened this morning. Algarotti, get that anchor in place, seal the room, and administer amnestics to whoever was at the portal controls when this went down.

Dr. Algarotti: Oh, you mean Kyle? Honestly, you needn't worry about him. That introvert is too shy to talk to his own reflection.

Director: Lawrence!

Dr. Algarotti: Yes, sir, right away.⁴

2. Here's my contribution to the lore:
Q: How in the heck did the Foundation manage to open a portal to another planet?
A: As outlined in the FAQ on Hume levels, portals and spacetime anomalies are much more likely to occur in areas with low Hume levels. Again, as noted in the FAQ, while the vacuum of space does have slightly lower Hume levels on average, I propose that one would find much more variation on a planet. Where the other end of the portal goes to is random. Now here we have to address a misconception that drives me up the wall. When I say random, I do not mean that every cubic meter of reality has the same probability of becoming the other end of the portal. The probabilities are weighted heavily towards regions of space with large fluctuations in Hume levels, like a planet. Furthermore, it appears that portals preferentially choose to link to locations with similar gravity and electromagnetic fields.
As for the planet SDJ-034d in particular, extensive testing by the Foundation has failed to reveal the identity of its host galaxy or where that galaxy is situated relative to the local group (i.e. the group of galaxies of which the Milky Way is a proud member). In fact, it has not been conclusively proven that SDJ-034d is even in our universe. Testing has shown the values of all physical constants to be indistinguishable from their values in our reality to the best of our measurements, but that doesn't prove that it is in our universe.

"While knowledge of SCP-3001 is available to personnel of any level should they wish to learn about it, research and experimentation with SCP-3001 and its associated technology is strictly limited to personnel of Level 3 and above, with special clearance designation granted from Sites 120, 121, 124, and 133."

An interdimensional tether that Anna Lang has developed, so as not to incur further loss of personnel.
