SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be held in a 10m by 10m by 15m containment chamber at Site ██. The chamber is to be equipped with two observation decks similar to those used in surgical operating theaters. These are to be present on opposite walls, 10m above the floor of the containment chamber. Walls are to be lead-lined and inscribed with runes and holy symbols from various cults and faiths. Individuals tasked with inscribing runes and symbols must be wholly convinced that such markings are capable of containing the entity, either on their own or when supplemented by current methods of containment. It is not necessary that these individuals be correct in their understanding of the meaning, history, or effectiveness of the symbol(s) which they inscribe, only that they believe themselves to be correct and that individuals tasked with observation of SCP-XXXX do not believe anything which might directly or indirectly contradict such beliefs.

Both observation chambers and SCP-XXXX’s containment chamber are to be monitored at all times via closed-circuit camera, from a secure station four floors above the containment chamber. Monitoring is to be overseen by a standard security team, as well as a team of four research personnel of which at least one holds Level 4 Security Clearance, with all others holding at least Level 3 Clearance. Observation Decks 1 and 2 are to each be controlled from the monitoring station. Both are to be equipped with electronic door locks and standard impact-resistant glass observation windows. Windows are to be supplemented by an additional pane which becomes opaque when subjected to an electrical current. Blast shields are to be installed with both automatic and manual activation controls, only accessible from the monitoring station. The observation deck which holds the primary observer is to be designated the primary observation chamber. Whichever observation deck is not currently designated the primary observation chamber is to have its window remain opaque unless containment necessitates otherwise. An electronic fail-safe is to remain active preventing windows on decks 1 and 2 from becoming transparent during the same period.

SCP-XXXX is to be kept under direct observation at all times. Observers are to be selected from researchers, D-Class, and clerical personnel1 that have had extremely limited experience with anomalous objects. No personnel having experience with Keter class objects are permitted within the observation chamber under any circumstances, though are welcome to assist within the monitoring station. Observers are to be held within the observation chambers until a scheduled2 shift-change takes place. No fewer than two one observer should be stationed within each observation chamber at any time. If observers are clerical personnel, they are permitted to perform their normal duties during observation and may bring within the chamber any equipment or documentation necessary to do so, provided that all accessible files have been approved by the research team.

Should SCP-XXXX change forms during observation, the research team will be responsible for determining whether the entity’s new form presents a containment risk. If so, the current observation chamber’s window is to be made opaque via introduction of an electrical current, activated from the monitoring station. Following an approximately two-second delay, the window of the secondary observation chamber is to be made transparent in order for a new individual to become the primary observer. Should these measures fail, blast shields are to be activated until a member of D-Class personnel with exclusive experience with or knowledge of Safe-class objects can be introduced into the chamber.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a Type 5 shape-changing entity which assumes the form of the anomalous object considered most dangerous by a single individual in direct observation of the entity. The individual on whose knowledge and beliefs the entity bases its form is considered the current "primary observer". This seems to be the person which SCP-XXXX determines to be the most powerful or to have the most influence among its direct observers at any given time. While not being directly observed, SCP-XXXX is known to maintain the form chosen based on its most recent primary observer. However, if the beliefs or knowledge of its previous observer are to change before a new observer can be introduced, SCP-XXXX will assume the form of whichever object the primary observer now considers the most “dangerous”(see Addendum XXXX-1). It is unknown by what metric the entity determines influence, but it is believed to be highly subjective on the part of the entity. This is evidenced by its tendency to select individuals as its primary observers with whom it has had experience, as well as its tendency to select seemingly mundane personnel with whom it is familiar.

Notable forms prior to containment:

9-3-2017 Unknown memetic hazard Described by witnesses as a poster depicting the Islamic figure Muhammad in a picnic setting featuring prominent figures from other religions. Affected individuals compulsively reproduced and distributed crude copies of the image despite any direct conflict such actions may present with the beliefs and fundamental religious doctrines to which they may subscribe. Reproduced images were recovered and determined to be non-anomalous.
9-3-2017 SCP-2634 Entity behaved in a pattern consistent with the actual SCP-2643. Assumed to be a delaying tactic until it could take a form with more offensive capabilities.
9-3-2017 SCP-088 Entity behaved consistently with SCP-088 in its active state.
9-3-2017 SCP-3478 Entity displayed characteristics accurate to SCP-3478, including -A and -B instances.
9-3-2017 SCP-3473 Entity displayed accurate characteristics save for scale, as form was over 35m tall. Believed to be the result of imperfect memory.
9-3-2017 Partial form Description by agents of MTF Theta-17 suggest that the manifestation appeared to resemble [DATA EXPUNGED].

Notable forms during containment:

12-13-2017 Me Primary observation deck switched and observer replaced before My secondary effect could present.
1-2-2018 SCP-4016 No incident occurred. Properties/behavior consistent with the original object.
4-11-2018 Open Class-C "Broken Entry" Wormhole Primary observation deck switched and observer replaced. Revised containment procedures submitted and pending approval.
5-1-2018 SCP-131 Revised containment procedures in effect on trial basis. Form assumed resembled SCP-131-A and SCP-131-B, however was purple in color. Believed to be the result of imperfect memory on part of observer, as she claimed to have seen SCP-131-A only once.
5-11-2018 SCP-3516 No incident occurred. Properties/behavior consistent with the original object.
5-21-2018 SCP-1356 No incident occurred. Properties/behavior consistent with the original object. Revised containment procedures deemed effective and approved for continued enforcement.

Containment: SCP-XXXX was contained following reports of a possible memetic hazard within the village of ███████████ near Sari Pul, Afghanistan. Upon investigation, Mobile Task Force Theta-17 (Scrubbing Bubbles) discovered and withstood attack from SCP-XXXX until additional support could arrive from Site-36. A full report of the incident and subsequent events is pending.

Addedndum XXXX-1: When observed by Dr.████████, the entity took the form of SCP-███. The below post-incident interview log.

Based on this information and that gathered from subsequent interviews, it has been determined that the entity will sometimes assume the form of the object which its primary observer finds "most anomalous". In other words, SCP-XXXX assumes the form of the object which presents the greatest challenge or threat to an observer's currently held beliefs on existence or reality.

Addendum XXXX-2: SCP-XXXX has shown a strange reaction to individuals who have undergone certain amnestic procedures. It is particularly noted that Agent ███████, who has undergone the ████████ Procedure, was consistently selected above all others as the primary observer. When observed by Agent ███████, SCP-XXXX would present partial or unclear forms, as evidenced during its initial containment. It is speculated that Agent ███████'s innate ability to partially counteract the effects of the entity places him in a position of influence in regards to the entity. This is likely due to the inherent threat he poses to -XXXX. SCP-XXXX has displayed a level of attention to the Agent not typically expressed toward other observers. Due to the unknown level of risk, the effects of other observers who have undergone the ████████ Procedure on the entity's form have not been tested.
