Description: SCP XXXX is an omnidirectional condenser microphone manufactured by ████████ in ███. The object was discovered soldered to a karaoke machine in Snoqualmie, Washington after an elderly couple was reported [REDACTED] in their home.

The object's condition shows signs of misuse and neglect, displaying rust, crippled wiring, missing parts, dented and misshapen metal, and continued degradation of its construction. All attempts to remove traces of corrosion or disassemble/reassemble the object have failed, and remains in its original condition upon discovery.

While SCP XXXX would be considered unusable by standards of any traditional microphone, connecting it to an audio interface with suitable output capabilities reveals it generates a signal fluctuating from -24db to -15db. Upon playing the signal through speakers, the sound resembles a person tapping on a desk overlay-ed with consistent hum and static in the background. The tapping has been observed to occur randomly, its duration lasting from 5-10 minutes and seizing anywhere from 3 minutes to up to 2 hours. Changing equipment has revealed no change in this activity and SCP XXXX is otherwise incapable of picking up any real life frequencies.

In the event that a person is within 5 meters of SCP XXXX whilst it is actively feeding through audio equipment in audible range of the subject, the object will start to deviate from its normal anomalies. The tapping SCP XXXX generates will seize and its audio interference will lower to an observed -28db. During this time the subject will start to experience feelings of paranoia and anxiousness and will show a desire to approach the object further. Should the subject enter within a radius of 3 meters from SCP XXXX, it will begin to generate a new signal, becoming more audible as the subject gets closer. The noises have been observed to be of the subject's own voice consisting of sounds related to depression and anxiety such as crying, speaking in a self degrading manner, and being audibly frustrated. This audio is always accompanied by mentions of a previous traumatic or saddening event that occurred in the subject's lifetime, with recorded examples including the death of a family member, a car accident, or poor financial choices.

After 1 to 2 minutes of exposure to SCP XXXX's audio whilst within 3 meters, the subject is brought into severe mental distress resulting in a panic attack. During this time, SCP XXXX seizes all audible activity, and the subject begins to recollect past events in the same manner presented by SCP XXXX. Conducted research shows that if the subject were speaking into SCP XXXX at the time of his/her approach to the object, the audio produced would be identical to that of SCP XXXX's own if it were fully operational. Subjects after an encounter with SCP XXXX show continued signs of depression or anxiety, however therapy has shown progress. After an interaction, SCP XXXX will remain unresponsive for a recorded one and a half days. It has shown no deviations from its behavior when confronted with other living creatures such as animals and insects.
