SCP-3238 when it was first found outside a Foundation front power plant.
Item #: SCP-3238
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3238 is to be kept in a locked safe-deposit box at Site-██ and is to be checked for signs of tampering bi-weekly. Any personnel spreading superfluous information will be isolated within a soundproof containment unit along with those receiving said information (see incident 15-A). Once all personnel holding the information are contained, the chamber is to be decontaminated, terminating the subjects. SCP-3238 may not under any circumstances be observed nor handled by any personnel other than approved D-Class personnel. Testing is only possible when SCP-3238 is taken to a testing chamber by approved D-Class personnel. If the subject handling SCP-3238 begins to show signs of any attraction to SCP-3238 before testing begins, personnel escorting the subject are to order him/her to place it back into its containment. Subject is to then be terminated.
Description: SCP-3238 is a standard, No. 2 pencil that measures 17 cm in length, and 0.5 cm in diameter. (Measurements are unconfirmed, due to SCP-X3238's nature.) SCP-3238's appearance has never been recorded, as any observation or handling of the object result in any persons doing so feeling an irresistible urge to [REDACTED] SCP-3238. This effect can also be transferred through conversing with other subjects about SCP-3238. These cognitive effects only manifest when the subject hearing, touching, or observing SCP-3238 are made aware that SCP-3238 is not [REDACTED].The effect can be avoided by wearing gloves and looking away. Anyone with reason to believe that SCP-3238 is not [REDACTED] will experience the aforementioned cognitive effects, and will do everything in their ability to [REDACTED] SCP-3238. This effect will also manifest in those who think about the possibility of SCP-3238 not being [REDACTED]. Subjects that act out their desire to [REDACTED] SCP-3238 often steal [REDACTED]ers from the offices and desks of any personnel in order to do so.
SCP-3238 was found on the grounds of a Foundation front power plant in ███████████, Saskatchewan, wrapped in a white cloth. Inside the cloth was SCP-3238 and beside it was the phrase "DO NOT REMOVE TAPE" written with a standard Sharpie. SCP-3238 was covered with yellow duct tape. As of writing this article, the person(s) who may have left SCP-3238 where it was found have not been located, and no DNA was discovered on the cloth. However, the subject is believed to be under 18 years of age, or else they would not have survived knowing about SCP-3238. An on-site guard reported the object, and a level 3 (three) researcher wearing Class-B hazmat gear was sent to inspect the object. The researcher took SCP-3238 to Site-██ under suspicion of anomalous properties.
Upon attempting to [REDACTED] SCP-3238, subject(s) will soon discover that it can not be [REDACTED], and will display one of the three (3) following symptoms:
- Become increasingly agitated, which will eventually lead to the subject injuring themselves/others with SCP-3238 to use their blood as "ink" for SCP-3238, resulting in death.
- Break into tears and beg SCP-3238 to [REDACTED] itself, an action that the subject will insist it can do. Subject then attempts suicide; and in each circumstance has succeeded.
- Completely lose interest in their efforts, and SCP-3238 itself. Once taken out of the vicinity of SCP-3238, the subject that showed this reaction completely forgets SCP-3238, and any events related to it. (Note: this reaction is only present in those under the age of 18.)
Any attempts to calm down, subdue, or incapacitate any subjects during this process will fail, usually with the subject overpowering any personnel's attempts. Class-B amnesiacs have also failed to stop this process.
Addendum: This file has been edited and any information that may trigger SCP-3238 effect has now been redacted. The data is stored in a ██████ at Site-██.
Addendum #2: It was not known that SCP-3238 could be spread through knowledge until the first test was conducted. After said test, Special Containment Procedures were updated.
Addendum #3: Dr. █████ has been demoted due to failing to debrief Dr. █████████ that SCP-3238's effects can be transferred through knowledge of it's nature. After writing this file, Dr. █████████ entered SCP-3238's containment chamber, and was later found dead due to self-asphyxiation.
The following are all documents regarding SCP-3238.
Document 15-1:
A transcript of the first test performed on SCP-3238, shortly, after it was found.
Interviewer: Dr. ██████
Interviewed: D-6695, a 33 year old Caucasian male.
Foreword: Subject was maintaining constant communication via radio. One (1) armed guard (Officer Evans) was present in the room with D-6695. SCP-3238 was in the same cloth and tape that it was found in.
<Begin Log 15-1, 11/22/20██>
Dr. ██████: Alright D-6695, please remove SCP-3238 from the tape.
D-6695: Yeah, sure.
Subject proceeds to tear apart the tape and removes SCP-3238.
Dr. ██████: What did you remove from the tape?
Subject does not respond, looks visibly shocked.
Dr. ██████: D-6695, what did you remove from the duct tape?
D-6695: May I please have a [REDACTED]er?
Subject looks slightly anxious and perhaps excited.
Dr. ██████: Tell me what you removed from under the duct tape.
D-6695: It's a pe-… a pencil. But it… it needs a… it…
Dr. ██████: What does it need?
D-6695: It needs me. To do it. Only I can do it. I can [REDACTED] it.
Dr. ██████ goes completely silent for a short moment before entering the test chamber and attempting to assist D-6695 in [REDACTED]ing SCP-3238. The two (2) if them tried multiple different methods, all of which failed. After attempting to [DATA EXPUNGED] it, they both lunged at the guard and punctured his abdomen with SCP-3238. D-6695 proceeded to write the phrase "We are not worthy of it's true form" on the table using the now bloodied object. The guard then shot them both fatally, and then terminated himself.
<End Log 15-1, 11/22/20██>
Foreword: This test concludes that SCP-3238 is a standard No. 2 pencil, which has severe cognitive and memetic effects. Additionally, SCP-3238's effects through linguistics can be avoided if the person(s) in hearing range are not listening/paying attention, seeing as how the guard present was not affected.
Incident 15-A: An audio recording of Dr. ███████ who was passing by the break room as she overheard a researcher mention SCP-3238.
A level 2 researcher was using a lunch break to tell other researchers about SCP-3238's nature. I've locked all of them inside of the break room and, thankfully, I did not hear any details. I have a Class-B amnesiac on hand in case I do hear something I shouldn't. Protocol was to lock them up, but… personally and objectively I don't see how that will solve anything. I can't hear anything from the other side, so I'm going to report this incident to security and let them handle this properly.
All three researchers were terminated using the decontamination mechanism to only the break room. Dr. ███████ immediately administered her Class-B amnesiac to herself after she was escorted away from the break room. She is to receive immediate commendation and possibly promotion for handling the situation as she did.

The following document is the unfinished original file for SCP-3238 that was edited due to the information having negative effects on the reader's mental state. The information is extremely misleading and possibly incorrect as the researcher writing it was experiencing the cognitive effects of SCP-3238. The document contains information that will trigger SCP-3238's effects on the reader. ONLY LEVEL 4 PERSONNEL ARE TO ACCESS THIS FILE. ANY PERSONNEL OF AGE 18 OR OLDER READING THE INFORMATION ON THIS DOCUMENT WILL BE TERMINATED.
By continuing to read, you accept and understand that you will be terminated.
