Story:

Once there was a vast forest, and a small village. The villagers were careful, for outside the walls were many dangers, but inside was relative safety. The villagers depended upon the strong, courageous, and proud Yeomen. The Yeomen kept the villagers safe from the creatures in the woods, ensuring that the borders were strong and the villagers did not stray from the safety of the village.

Over time, the dangers that the Yeomen faced were less from creatures encroaching upon the borders of the village and more from curious villagers entering the woods. The peace enjoyed had made the villagers unwary, and caused, well-founded fears, once common knowledge, to fade into mere memory.

The villagers, having become complacent, did not recognize the dangers of the forest. And yet, even as the village prospered, the forest grew more dangerous by the day. Perhaps the Yeomen simply became more equipped to recognize the threats, or perhaps the forest was evolving alongside the village.

The villagers, after all, had an advantage over the denizens of the forest: fire. Fire was unique to humans, and set humans apart from the creatures of the forest. The fire was passed down from generation to generation, and, with each generation, grew more refined. The villagers venerated the flames and kept the fires well-fed, for the more refined the fire became, the higher the villager's aspirations reached. Through the use of the fire, the humans developed tools, and the quality of life improved further and further in the village.

However, the Yeomen kept a watchful eye over the fires and the firekeepers, even while exploring and guarding against the forest. Fire had empowered the humans, but there were always individuals who used fire as a weapon.
