Evil Santa-2

Jerry sat down at his desk and turned his computer on. Time to write his own SCP. He already got two Greenlights on the Ideas Critique Forum and he was sure, his draft would be loved as well. He startet typing.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter Apollyon

Containment Procedures:

Jerry paused. He had thought about the description a lot, but has forgotten about the containment procedures. ‘Well’, he thought, ‘this can’t be too hard’.

Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX cannot be contained at this moment. Mobile Task Force Jot-1 (“Devil Hunters”) has to search for any possible location of origin for SCP-XXXX. If one is to be found the entire area around it is to be sealed off to the public and a research team is to be sent to the location immediately. Until the discovery of this location (if one should exist) the aforementioned MTF squad is to search for any subjects displaying symptoms of stage 4 of SCP-XXXX. These subjects are to be immediately terminated. Since almost every human being on Earth shows symptoms of stage 1, no subject with symptoms of stage 3 or lower are to be terminated. Subjects with stage 3 symptoms, however, are to be constantly monitored to ensure a quick termination in the event of a transformation to stage 4. (See Addendum XXXX-02 for more details)

For being the first SCP he ever wrote this was pretty good, Jerry thought. Not perfect, but he would fix these parts later, when he was finished with everything else. He went on to the description.

Description: SCP-XXXX describes a phenomenon commonly referred to as ‘the Evil’. Testing revealed it to concern solely the brain. No physical substance or location in the brain could be found that causes SCP-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX’s anomalous effect consists of creating the will of performing actions that are seen as morally reprehensible by the general public1. The strength of this compulsion is relative to the stage in which SCP-XXXX is currently in. The researchers were able to identify four stages. These are as follows:

  • Stage 1: The compulsion is only shown by the subject when provoked. These compulsions usually lead to the subject tripping someone up and similar actions. Actions which cause them to appear include but are not limited to physical violence, repeated verbal abuse and bragging. The subjects can be calmed down very easily and show no aggression. When unprovoked they do not feel any compulsion.
  • Stage 2: The subjects tell lies to or about other people, these are, however, often white lies. The subjects react in 33% of the cases with violence to minor provocations and can only be calmed down through isolation for several minutes up to an hour.
  • Stage 3: The subjects steal and lie with the intention of provoking negative consequences for the person that has been lied to. They react in 80% of the cases with violence and need several hours to days to calm down. There are examples of unprovoked violence towards random persons by subjects in stage 3.
  • Stage 4: All subjects in stage 4 perform actions strongly regarded as wrong, such as murder or rape. They cannot be calmed down. While trying to contain subjects in stage 4, the Foundation had ███ casualties. This led to the current containment procedures.

Jerry leaned back in his seat and looked at his text. He was proud of himself. If this does not get positive reviews nothing would. He will probably be a legend in the SCP community after posting his article. They will scream for more but even though Jerry had a ton of other ideas he would wait until the suspense reached its peak. Suddenly he heard a voice in his head: ‘Don’t get too excited. There is still much improvement. I need to be written perfectly’. What the hell? He must be getting tired. His mind was playing tricks on him. It was bedtime anyway. Jerry would continue tomorrow.

That night, he had a strange dream. Jerry was on a plain field in the middle of nowhere. It was midnight and the moonlight seemed to shine on a small spot a few meters in front of him. Jerry could swear he heard footsteps but he could not find the source. All of a sudden a shadow stepped on the lighted spot. Jerry could not believe his eyes. What was that? ‘You should recognize me’, the shadow said in a voice both resembling that of a man and a woman at the same time. Apparently it could read his thoughts. ‘I am your creation after all.’ Jerry was startled. ‘My creation? What do you mean?’ He could hear a sound what must be a laugh. ‘You will find out soon enough. Now get back to work. My patience is not infinite.’

Jerry woke up to the sun shining on his face. He looked at his phone. It was ten o’clock already. Usually he woke up at around eight.
He shrugged and got to his computer. Maybe his body just needed to rest a little longer. When he opened the document for his SCP, he thought of the dream. It was probably only a creation of his imagination. His SCP seemed to left its marks on him. Which did not prevent him from putting his hand on the keyboard and from starting to write.

Further research conducted on SCP-XXXX revealed that it was present in the subjects since the birth. All newborn babies were in stage 1 of SCP-XXXX. At the age of three symptoms of stage 2 could be monitored. The onset of each stage differs from subject to subject and does not even have to happen. 23 percent of the entirety of subjects stay in stage 1 for their whole life. 64 percent display symptoms of stage 2. 12 percent are currently in stage 3 and one percent in stage 4. The number of people in stage 4 increases for a reason yet unknown. Researchers predict that there will be an IK-Class Collapse of Global Civilization Scenario or even a XK-Class End-of-the-World Scenario in the year ████. Preventing these scenarios is considered level 1 priority.

The transformation to higher stages is usually random; however, it can and will occur if the person is physically attacked by another person, independent of their level. To date, a transformation to a lower stage has never happened and is considered impossible.

Jerry heard a grumbling in his stomach. Time to eat breakfast … at 1 p.m. What? This can not be right. You can not take three hours for just two paragraphs. Ok, he might have dazed off for some time without noticing. Well, Jerry would just eat lunch then. A sandwich will be enough to last him until evening.

After he was finished eating, he continued writing. He still wanted to include the description of the discovery and an interview.

Discovery: The Foundation suspects that SCP-XXXX has existed since the creation of the humans. Documents about actions which were probably related to the anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX date back to the 33rd century BCE. To date, no subject could be found which was the first one to show symptoms of SCP-XXXX. Finding this subject or a location of origin is considered top level priority, after preventing an IK-Class or XK-Class scenario.

Jerry was excited for the interview. He was as good as finished with the article and that within a day. He hoped his estimation of the date of the documents was right. He googled it, but the Internet could never be trusted.
'You are right about the documents, but I existed way earlier. I was even in the first human which ever existed. Those were good times. It was just as easy back then as now to spread across the world.' Jerry ran a shiver down his spine. There was this voice again. After finishing his article, he would have to go to the doctor. It was probably nothing, but still.

Addendum XXXX-01: Interview
The following is an interview between Dr. Hayweather and a subject in stage 4 (hereafter designated as SCP-XXXX-01), which is restrained to a chair. SCP-XXXX-01 was previously Dr. Gerry Page, a Foundation researcher in Site-██.

Interviewed: SCP-XXXX-01

Interviewer: Dr. Hayweather

<Begin Log, 03/04/20██, 12:33:33>

Dr. Hayweather: Good afternoon, SCP-XXXX-01.

SCP-XXXX-01: Stop calling me that or you will regret it.

Dr. Hayweather: You are in no position to make demands, SCP-XXXX-01.

[SCP-XXXX-01 angrily screamed and tried to break its restraints to no avail. He then stared at Dr. Hayweather for several moments.]

SCP-XXXX-01: You may have the upper hand now, Doctor, but that will change soon.

Dr. Hayweather: Would you please elaborate on that?

SCP-XXXX-01: [Laughing] You are funny, Doctor. You expect me to tell you everything just because I can't move. Well, you are wrong.

Dr. Hayweather: Then I have no other choice than stopping this inter-

[SCP-XXXX-01 suddenly shakes. Its eyes move and show the white side for a moment before returning to their normal position. It opens its mouth and speaks with a deep voice, which does not belong to SCP-XXXX-01.]

SCP-XXXX-01: I like you, Doctor. So I will give you a little hint. I am in you. Haven't you noticed the anger when you see your wife who cheated on you? Haven't you noticed the envy for the promotions of your colleagues while you rot here and speak with boring anomalies? I know you. I am a part of you. But not only you. I am a part of everyone in the world.

Dr. Hayweather: What should we do in your opinion?

SCP-XXXX-01: Surrender. You can't escape the Evil. You can't escape me. I was there from the beginning and I will be there in the end. Don't make it harder than it is. You can't do anything. Remember my words for they are the last I will ever say.

[At this moment, SCP-XXXX-01 fell to the ground and was later confirmed dead.]

<End Log, 03/04/20██, 12:35:52>

Jerry stopped writing. That was not what he intended to write. The voice in his head dictated him the words. Strange. He did not care too much, though, as the interview turned out to be way better than he thought. Now he wanted to write a last excerpt from Dr. Hayweather to make a final plot twist.

Addendum XXXX-02: Note

If we believe SCP-XXXX-01 or SCP-XXXX, who presumably spoke through the subject, the situation is worse than we thought. We cannot contain every human being on earth because it is affected by an SCP. SCP-2000 seems to be ineffective, since SCP-XXXX still exists after multiple applications. Therefore I request a reclassification to Apollyon. I also propose the creation of a project to counter the effects of SCP-XXXX. I would call the project "PNEUMA". As I see it, this could be the only chance against the SCP.
Dr. Hayweather

PNEUMA? Jerry did not even know what that meant. This was getting too strange. He should just delete the entire draft and think of something new. Maybe a Joke-SCP would be refreshing and with less mysterious events. Then Jerry gasped. He saw pictures flooding through his mind, pictures from times long before he was born. All depicted scenes of violence. He startet to understand. He was not writing about something fictional. This was the truth. The SCP Foundation existed. Jerry needed to do something. He needed to warn them. Maybe Project PNEUMA could really help defeating this SCP, whatever it was.

Jerry stood up and ran outside. He screamed: "The SCP Foundation is real!" Then he moved through the whole city and screamed these words until his voice could not be heard anymore. When he was pulled into a back alley by two men, he thought: 'Finally. I will save the world.' He felt a needle injecting something in his arm and the last thing he heard was: "Get this guy to the nearest facility. Then we can decide what to do with him. He has got half the city out on the street. Come on!"

Jerry fell asleep with a smile on his face.
