SCP-XXXX seed cones

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: One instance of SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a sealed containment chamber located in {site number}, which is restricted to Level 3 and above personnel. The chamber is to be fitted with artificial sunlight lamps with access to a constant power supply and additional backup generators. Seven SCP-XXXX seeds are to be suspended in a saline solution and inspected daily for growth. Weekly, or if showing signs of growth, the seeds are to be destroyed and replacement seeds are to be collected from harvested seed cones. Seed cones are to be harvested every █ and destroyed. In the event that it becomes impossible to maintain these containment procedures, the current instance and seeds of SCP-XXXX are to be terminated. All aforementioned instances of the destruction of SCP-XXXX and its parts is to be conducted via prolonged exposure to sulphuric acid.

The Foundation is to monitor and investigate reports of miniature Juniperus growing in Central United States. In the event that SCP-XXXX is discovered, MTF Theta-4 ("Gardeners") is to terminate any and all instances.

Any sign of EICNA Services (Ltd.) is to immediately be reported to the Foundation and if applicable, the material bearing the information is to be detained.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous strain of the Juniperus plant recovered from a civilian home in ██████,Arkansas. The trunk, branches, seeds, roots and leaves of SCP-XXXX are extremely resistant to physical, chemical and environmental damage. Forces greater then 15.000 psi, temperatures exceeding than 800°C and -70 °C and continuous and prolonged exposure to chemicals such as sulphuric acid are successful in maiming and killing SCP-XXXX instances.

SCP-XXXX instances are denoted by their rapid growth, often reaching maturity in 4-5 hours, growing to a maximum height of 25-30 centimetres. In addition, they will produce seeds cones year round, and without the need for pollination, producing them every █ hours after reaching maturity

The seed cones produced by SCP-XXXX have a durability and size identical to that of a normal, fully grown Juniperus, but will rapidly decay between █-██ hours after detaching from an SCP-XXXX instance. This is due to the immediate and rapid germination of the encased seeds, which absorb the surrounding nutrients, sprouting roots and leaves to further development once the cone has fully decayed.

The roots of SCP-XXXX are extremely fine and numerous, ranging from 2cm thick to █ μm thick. and are capable of burrowing into all most solid surfaces, including steel, glass, concrete, and on and inside living creatures and plants. However, SCP-XXXX instances are unable to burrow into other instances of themselves.

SCP-XXXX derives sustenance solely through photosynthesis and does not require water, nutrient rich soil, carbon dioxide, or any other substances needed to keep standard Juniperus plants alive. In the event that an SCP-XXXX is unable to support itself through photosynthesis, its roots will begin to absorb the immediate surrounding environment, causing said environment to deteriorate until the roots are no longer in contact with any solid material. During this time SCP-XXXX will prioritise rapid root development, growing and burrowing into as much of the surrounding environment as possible; a pattern that repeats until SCP-XXXX has access to sufficient sunlight.

Discovery: Incident XXXX-1 SCP-XXXX was recovered from the rural town of ██████,Arkansas on ██/██/20██, following multiple reports of a house collapsing, the interior completely covered with instances of SCP-XXXX. After failed attempts from local law enforcements to destroy SCP-XXXX instances, the Foundation was notified and MTF Theta-4 ("Gardeners") was sent to respond. The town was evacuated and all instances of SCP-XXXX were systematically isolated and terminated via prolonged exposure to sulphuric acid. Following the incident, the inhabitants were administered Class B amnestics and a cover story was established, detailing that a sinkhole formed and collapsed the building, killing its inhabitants.

Addendum-1: Recovered Objects
Two objects of note were recovered from the home; the first being a corpse of an elderly woman and the second being a cardboard package addressed to the residence.

The corpse was recovered with multiple instances of SCP-XXXX growing on and inside it, though later identified as {name name}, a 78 year old woman and sole resident of the house.

The cardboard package, herein referenced as SCP-XXXX-1, was discovered mostly intact, with no instances of SCP-XXXX growing on or nearby it. SCP-XXXX-1 is 20cmx10cmx10cm plain cardboard box with no abnormal properties, asides from its lack of interaction with SCP-XXXX. The only markings on SCP-XXXX are the name and address of the corpse and residence of discovery, as well as the words "Order Number #███████". Three objects were discovered inside SCP-XXXX-1, a paper form (designated Document-XXXX-2), the remains on an opened plastic container, and a paper handbook titled "How to take care of your bonsai" (designated Document-XXXX-1).

Addendum-2: Interview

Interviewee James █████

Interviewer: Agent Dawn

Foreword: The interviewee approached Foundation personnel during evacuation procedures, explaining his association with the deceased and his knowledge of events that occurred during the previous 48 hours.

Agent Dawn: For official records; what was your relation with the deceased?

James █████: Me? I'm her grandson, from my mother's side. I drove up from ███ to visit her over the weekend. We don't really visit her much so I thought it would be nice.

Agent Dawn: Can you recite the events that happened last you saw her.

James █████: Well, I last saw her a couple of days ago, when I first came into town. It was around ██:██ when I pulled up to her house. She's usually happy whenever someone comes to visit but that day she seemed even happier. Turns out she had gotten something in the mail the same day and she wanted to show me.

James briefly coughs before continuing

James █████: Something you need to know about Gran, she doesn't exactly have what you'd call a green thumb. Even before I was born she's been trying to grow a garden. Never could do it though, all the plants would seem to shrivel up and die. We'd often joke that maybe she should just buy some plastic plants instead. So anyways the first thing she does when I enter the house is show off this new plant she'd gotten. It was a small tree, like the Japanese have, no idea where she managed to get one of them from. I was doubtful of course, I don't know much about plants and stuff but I don't think this is the right habitat for that kind of plant, and those bonsai things are super needy or something like that.

Agent Dawn: What happened next?

James █████: So I asked her about it right? She said she got it online or something, didn't even know she knew how to use the internet. I asked her where she was leaving it and she explained she just left it on the counter. By the way, that counter has sunlight shining on it through most of the day, so I thought I'd help her out and moved it to another table in the lounge. I didn't want it dying like the rest of them.

Agent Dawn: Is that all?

James █████: For that day? Just about. She served me some pie she was baking and I left after that. Going to be honest it was pretty sour, definitely not her best.

Agent Dawn: Where did you go after you left?

James █████: Just back to the motel. Went out a little later to get some drinks but nothing really big.

Agent Dawn: And what about the following day?

James █████:I woke up in the morning with a pain in my gut, don't worry, I'm over it now.

James coughs violently into his hand. Blood is visible on the palm.

Agent Dawn: Are you alright?

James █████: I'm fine for the most part. Just a little cough. Don't worry. Anyways, so I called Gran in the morning to let her know I was feeling a bit ill and would visit tomorrow. She didn't pick up though. At the time I just assumed she was still asleep, it was like █ in the morning.

Agent Dawn: And that's the last time you saw her?

James █████: Yea. Next thing I know you guys are here moving everyone out of town. What's up with that anyways?

Agent Dawn: The sinkhole ruptured a gas main, we need to evacuate the town until its cleaned up.

Closing Statement: Following the interview James █████ was closely monitored. At ██:██ he collapsed and died due to extensive gastrointestinal bleeding. Autopsies revealed numerous instances of SCP-XXXX in his digestive system, responsible for rupturing large portions of the colon and gastric wall. The body was immediately treated with sulphuric acid.
