SCP ???
'Tilted Reality'
Class: Euclid, awaiting reclassification
Containment Procedure:
⦁ Artifact is to be contained within an 2 x 2.5 x 2m holding room with a single access point sealing air tight, CCTV will be placed in all four corners of the room.
⦁ By absolutely no means may the artifact be opened or made physical contact with, without expressed permission and a MTF security detail on standby.
⦁ Any unmanned behaviour that is observed around SCP??? is to be reported immediately.
⦁ maintenance checks will be carried out at bi hourly intervals by appointed staff.
Description:
At first sight the artifact appears to be a 4x7ft door and holding frame with brass hinges and a wooden handle. There is no lock. The door will close automatically if left open. The frame appears to be carved from a single piece of mahogany. As a whole piece the artifact appears to be in good condition however there is what appears to be scratches tracing from the outermost point of the frame to the edge of the door itself at the top left and top right-hand corners, attempts to date when these scratches occurred have been met with inconclusive results.
The artifact was first brought to our attention when a distraught member of the public called for local authorities upon the disappearance of their daughter, during a game of hide and seek, at an abandoned warehouse. The door was the only object of note to be recovered by foundation staff, fingerprints of the missing child were recovered around the doors handle as well as what appeared to be scuffed footprints in the dust at the foot of the door. Amnestics have been distributed as needed.
Opening the door reveals a vast green field with a towering mountain range in the distance, the exact distancing is inconclusive due to the veil that separates one side of the door from the other. Time visibly moves at an accelerated pace, with a single second of our reality resulting a year beyond the door.
This neighbouring worlds stage of evolution as of first contact had been placed at the early cretaceous period, with indigenous fauna bearing a crude resemblance to that of fauna from our worlds equivalent era.
Traversing from our world to the other sets in motion a quinquennial event, rendering any attempt of returning useless until the 5 year period has ended, our belief is that this function is akin to that of a battery being depleted and devoid of use until it has been fully charged.
Our site engineers have gained insight into the nature of the veil between the two worlds; While contained within its frame, the veil acts as if it were the skin of a bubble with the frame acting as its loop. Damage to the frame risks causing this loop to become broken, allowing this hypothetical skin to expand and occupy its surrounding space. Risk assessments carried out for the results of such an event suggest that if left unchecked the continued bleed of the parallel reality would leave permanent damage to our continuum as everything subjected to the occurrence becomes altered to the point of its entire perception of time being torn between this reality and the other.
Incident report 1:
September 3, 1994. Research team 2:2 Romeo crosses the doorway under armed escort of Zero Romeo in an attempt to recover the lost child. After a mere 5 seconds of spectating, a single researcher accompanied by two of the escort emerged back through the door, bloodied and in a state of extreme panic. In the moment this event took place an organism of the foreign world that can be described thus far as a large Reptilian of Saurid origin attempted to force its way through the veil. While heavy gunfire from the two surviving escorts proved successful in repelling the creature at first it did manage to bite down on the closer of the two escorts right leg and begin to drag him back towards the parallel world, Whether it was the creature trying to pull itself through the doors frame or the escorts attempt to save himself, Minor structural damage to the doors frame was recorded in the aftermath.
Measures to ensure the door remains closed at all times have been put in place.
Debrief of expedition survivors:
After a full psych evaluation and medical, both surviving party members were asked to relay their findings within the foreign world, operational name 'The Askew'.
Their matching statements claim that it becomes physically impossible to return from 'The Askew' for an indeterminable period of time. upon arrival on the other side all evidence of a doorway being present disappear leaving what appears to be a slight distortion of the light surrounding where the door would be in place.
During the exposure to 'The Askew' the body adapts to the relative zone. This reportedly effected members of the team differently, ranging from nausea, migraines, vertigo and in one case involuntary spasms leading to death.
It is also believed that the travellers perception of time becomes altered, creating a rift between our world and 'The Askew' the effects of which are isolated to the travellers themselves; see incident report 1A for details. Our medical teams have reported that all signs of injury to the survivors of incident 1 had receded at a rate that was highly unprecedented.
Of the 10 personnel to cross into 'The Askew' it has been reported that the majority fell prey to the fauna, 6 to the saurid that attempted the breach at incident 1, 1 to the aforementioned travel sickness and 1 to infection after receiving an insect bite to the throat.
Incident report 1A:
October 1, 1994. Survivors of incident 1 became subject to severe anatomic distress, seemingly ageing at an increased rate. While the ageing effect is uniform between both members of staff there are symptoms which appear to be unique to each of them, with our former researcher of the expedition suffering in loss of all short term memory, a CT scan of the researchers brain revealed that he had fallen into an advanced stage of Alzheimers seemingly overnight while our former member of the escort team had developed a highly aggressive form of cancer in their lymph nodes.
At this rate of progression, we do not expect them to survive the night.
After an inspection of the survivors medical records it has been been made clear that both had a history of degenerate diseases within their families, it has been concluded that a side effect of travel to 'The Askew' caused these respective conditions to develop at an accelerated rate.
Reassessment of classification is advised.
Incident report 2:
May 19, 1999. Evidence of structural damage to the artifacts frame was reported. A silver fog had appeared to escape though the cracks in the frame. 5 minutes after the damage had been brought to attention SCP??? had begun to assimilate its surroundings with the veil that separates both planes of existence expanding to the walls and ceiling of its containment room. Fire teams were immediately scrambled to guard the rift while on site engineers repaired the damaged artifacts frame.
the rift successfully reduced back to original size upon the artifacts restoration.
Certain members of staff that responded to this incident have begun to suffer migraines and forms of dizziness akin to symptoms suffered by members of our first expedition. They will report to the med bay immediately. We now know that if left un-ensconsed within its frame, the doorway itself allows the two conflicting rates of time to bleed into one another. Due to the fast acting and professionalism of our team on hand this bleed was localised to only a small perimeter surrounding the artifact, were it the case that such an event occurred without the foundations awareness the effects could have been disastrous.
OPERATIONS NOTICE
FOLLOWING INCIDENTS 1 AND 2 ALL ACTION CONCERNING SCP??? HAS BEEN POSTPONED WHILST A PERIOD OF DISCUSSION AND TESTS WITH EXPENDABLES TAKES PLACE.
Reassessment protocol:
After careful deliberation and planning amongst the research parties concerned with SCP??? it has been deemed necessary for a second expedition into the parallel world, operationally named 'The Askew' with hopes of acquiring genetic tissue for further experimentation. Our long-term goals will be to synthesise a method of counteracting any possible negative effects sustained by coming into contact with the artifacts time bleed as well as boosting the positive regenerative qualities found there in.
This decision was settled upon after a blood sample taken from an incident 1 survivor showed promising signs of cellular regeneration at an alarming rate. Our department of research has conducted tests upon volunteering D-class personnel. Of the 20 subjects, 8 expired due to accelerated ageing, a further 7 exhibited symptoms previously observed from incident 1A. The remaining 5 were seemingly un-phased and anatomically correct however, after a 72 hour period, began to develop cellular regeneration capable of restoring even the most grievous of wounds. We now believe we have successfully isolated the correct parameters to avoid secondary conditions such as those exhibited in incident 1A.
The potential gains from this endeavour need not be stressed, however due to the nature of the delay in returning from 'The Askew' it has been deemed necessary that all research be conducted from within SCP???, a fruitless venture will not be tolerated.
The expedition team will be hand picked from a selection of research personnel with competent field and firearms scores, MTF escort members will also be required to have previous experience in extra dimensional travel. As a homage to the former expedition Romeo 2:2 and Zero Romeo, expedition is being operationally named MTF Romeo Minor 'Primal Edge'. Eligibility for deployment on this mission will require all candidates to have a full medical briefing to establish that no adverse affects will await them upon return.
MTF Romeo Minor 'Primal Edge' will be equipped with a mobile laboratory, a 5 year supply of dehydrated food substance and body armour. To avoid damage to potential test subjects MTF Romeo Minor will be armed with none lethals first and foremost with ballistics available only at utmost need.
Armament listed below: (20 man loadout)
30x Trapdoor shock snares
30x Area denial nerve agent mines
20x All purpose rifles 'raptor fang', incendiary, taser and hollow point compatible
20x Neo-howda sidearms
5x Star render collapsible rocket system
20x Silver tongue combat knife/trench tool
grenades will be distributed 4 per person
Mission Findings:
MTF Romeo Minor has returned in full strength from operations within 'The Askew'. All genetic material that has been collected will be catalogued and shipped to our Applied sciences branch to begin production of the prioritised vaccine as well as a new fast acting combat rehabilitation serum.
additional findings have been logged by Romeo Minors field team leader.
It would appear that the evolutionary process within 'The Askew' has progressed to its Iron age, however there is no evidence of any extinction level events having occurred. The ruling species within this world is still of reptilian origin, tribal in nature and yet seemingly well connected amongst one another. It would appear that while they have developed to a stage of living much like early man the chronological scale of time for them shows that it has been considerably slower in comparison.
a scouting party confirmed that a symbol of significant importance amongst these tribes is that of our own foundations insignia, leading us to believe that some remnant of our original expedition had been discovered, eventually becoming the centre of their early religion. It is unknown whether this is the reason for their slower rate of development.
During MTF Romeo Minors deployment interaction with the native tribes was kept to a minimum to avoid unintentionally angering them however examples of close encounters showed that the tribes members interest was solely to observe the Task forces behaviour. in an isolated occurrence two creatures of the native tribe settled closest to our field laboratory delivered the carcass of a slaughtered mid sized creature which was later confirmed to be a form of livestock in a display of what we believe to be a religious offering.
Further use of MTF Romeo Minor 'Primal Edge' within the parallel world will be placed in a state of standby for the purpose of monitoring its state of progression and in the event that more genetic material is required.
