Special Containment Procedures: All samples of SCP-IKO shall be held within the U.S. Army-Foundation joint medical research site #90 in Maryland. SCP-IKO shall be contained within a sealed glass tube, suspended in liquid helium, within a solid acrylic retort. Frozen body slices taken from SCP-IKO-A shall remain at St. ████████ medical center's infectious disease department until such time as the foundation can store them safely. SCP-IKO is to be assigned its own armed guard, dressed in BSL-4 Lab appropriate garb.
Neutralization Protocol:
In the event of a containment breach, MTF-Ichabod ('Fire Breathers') shall be dispatched and a statewide cordon sanitaire shall be established. Any and all incidences of infection thereafter within the cordon shall result in a Class-1 Neutralization of the area, following the scorched earth contingency (See Addendum A)
Unplanned explosions and terrorist attacks occurring anywhere in the world are to be investigated immediately as possible incidences of SCP-IKO-B by MTF Brando ('Sandmen').
Containing Natural Cases:
In the event of the discovery of a natural case of SCP-IKO, MTF-August ('The Doctors') shall be dispatched immediately. Any natural human host to SCP-IKO shall be designated SCP-IKO-B. Any and all incidences of SCP-IKO-B and any person who has had physical contact with SCP-IKO-B shall be questioned for the purposes of epidemiological study, and then terminated in a manner consistent with Ethics Board recommendations. Bodies are to be disposed of by incineration.

Description: SCP-IKO is a virion of unknown source, the first of its kind to be infectious to humans. If any living organism, including bacteria, protozoa, amoeba, fungus, plant, animal or human comes into contact with SCP-IKO, infection will occur in about 84% of cases. Route of infection is typically through bites, tears, semen, or saliva, although at least one blood borne case is known.

Incidences of SCP-IKO-B will initially show no symptoms, in an incubation period lasting up to 18 days. Symptoms begin with flu-like presentations, and a fever of no less than 39 degrees C. from there, it follows a rapid progression through a flu like illness, with SCP-IKO-B feeling better after approximately 96 hours.

Incidences of SCP-IKO-B will then feel an increasing urge to consume meat and will begin to consume large amounts of protein daily. After approximately four days, the subject becomes highly excitable, and begins to experience strong urges, including violence and vice. During this phase, the subject is highly contagious, and will pass the contagion onto about 8 people daily, although this incidence goes down the larger an outbreak grows.

After this phase passes, generally five days after the strong urges appear, molecular changes begin to appear within the incidence of SCP-IKO-B. Various elements within the molecules of their body will begin transitioning into unstable radioactive isotopes. At this phase, incidences will begin to lose personality traits, and fall into a post-aggressive state, and will actively attempt to leave their area. Upon arrival within a new province, state, or in one case country, the subject will seek out large structures.

Once inside or sufficiently near the structure, the incidence of SCP-IKO-B will begin shaking uncontrollably. It is unknown as to whether this is an effect of neural degeneration due to molecular instability or related directly to the following action. Several minutes after arrival, the incidence will explode, causing a small thermonuclear reaction equal to about 5 kilotons of TNT, generally destroying the structure or causing serious damage. This explosion is only briefly radioactive and is not known to harm the SCP-IKO. A viral burst occurs concurrently with the explosion and can spread infective virions up-to 10 kilometers from the blast site, causing increased damage.

Discovery: The first known incidence of SCP-IKO was within SCP-IKO-A, son of a ████████ diplomat, within the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The boy was shot by DPRK troops while attempting to cross the DMZ on ████████, 2015. As per normal protocol, the body was retrieved by the United States, and transferred to the U.S.S. Sanctuary, where autopsy began.

When the autopsy began, the practitioner, Dr. ████████ noticed the signs of cellular degeneration, and immediately had the body frozen, and took slices for histological examination (See Addendum B), and where sent via helicopter, and eventually plane to St. ████████ Medical Center for examination. Shortly after the slices left the ship, the autopsy continued, and incident KN-89434 occurred, resulting in the loss of the U.S.S. Sanctuary, and the death of all except Dr. ████████ who was interviewed by foundation personnel before succumbing to SCP-IKO (See Addendum C). The results of the autopsy can be seen below.

Incidents involving SCP-IKO:
Incident KN-89434 ('Sanctuary Lost'): On ████████, 2015, the U.S.S. Sanctum exploded following the autopsy of SCP-IKO-A. All souls where lost, accept an incidence of SCP-IKO-B. Radiography satelites detected the radioactive cloud after the incident, although SCP-IKO is not known to be able to remain viable within sea water.

Incident KN-89555 ('Protocol Breach'): On ████████, 2016, Ensign Charles ████████, of the MTF Ichabod, S.C.P. Public Health Corps/U.S. Navy stole one sample of SCP-IKO as part of a larger criminal conspiracy, in connection with an offshoot of the Church of the Broken God. While attempting to flee security officers on the way home, he crashed his vehicle into a tree, resulting in the destruction of the containment vessel. This incident resulted in the creation of the Scorched Earth Contingency.

Incident KN-90000 ('S.O.S.'): On ████████, 2017 a male, approximately 19 years of age arrived at ████████ Urgent Care within a Walmart in ████████, Wisconsin. The patient presented with symptoms consistent with SCP-IKO, and, approximately 13 minutes into the office visit, a large explosion occurred, that was attributed by news media to be caused by a natural gas leak. Due to the odd shape of the treatment room in relation to the walls of the facility, the roof remained fully in place, preventing an infective mushroom cloud from escaping the facility.

Addendum A: Scorched Earth Protocol- Pursuant with Order 71F of the infectious disease containment council (IDCC) of the foundation, the following protocol shall apply while dealing with incidences of the SCP:
"Complete, and total destruction. All buildings are to be thoroughly scorched inside, and when possible burned completely. All persons shall be incinerated, in addition to all animals and plants. All earth and concrete shall be scorched for no less than thirty seconds. No personnel other than MTF-Ichabod shall be allowed to leave the area."

Addendum B: Slices of SCP-IKO-A are available to authorized personnel for viewing upon request. Autopsy report is as follows;

AUTOPSY REPORT (PARTIAL): FILE 45GBA Audio Transcript (Recovered)

The deceased is a male, approximately 140 centimeters tall. Presiding examiner is myself, Ensign ████████, U.S. Navy. External anatomy is unremarkable, and consistent with a malnourished male approximately fourteen years of age. A single gunshot wound of thus-far unknown caliber to the temporal bone, in addition to a corresponding 2" exit wound.

Gauze packing, and bandage, in addition to an interosseous infusion port and endotracheal tube are present. I am [Data Missing]…

… Upon applying pressure to begin the incision, I am met with unexpectedly little resistance. The skin appears to be damaged, as if already in advanced stages of decomposition, materially inconsistent with the reported time of expiration. I am therefore recommending immediate cryopreservation to prevent further degradation. Recording stopped at ████████, 2015.

Recording recommenced ████████ 2015: I am taking three slices from the deceased at C-1, C5, and L1. These slices are being airlifted to St. ████████ Medical Center for Examination. I will now begin. *Explosion is audible* No other data recovered.

Addendum C:

Interviewed: Ensign ████████, U.S. Navy

Interviewer: Captain Mogily, MTF-Beta 7

Foreword: This interview was conducted after the rescue of SCP-IKO-B, Ensign ███████, U.S. Navy by MTF-Beta ('Maz Hatters') Captain Mogily aboard the Foundation Ship The F.S. Hazard

<Begin Log>

SCP-IKO-B: Are you with the Navy? Coast Gaurd?
CM: I am with an international aide organization, now, can you please tell me what happened?
SCP-IKO-B: I don't really know what happened. I was returning a deceased person to the flash freezer when an explosion occurred. Next thing I remember, I was in the water.
CM: Tell me about the deceased…
SCP-IKO-B: I can't. I am sorry. It's privileged.
CM: We can get NavSec on the phone if you'd like?
Extraneous Dialogue Removed:
SCP-IKO-B: The deceased was a young boy, just out of the DPRK. He died earlier today, but seemed to be in an advanced state of decomposition.
CM: And the explosion?
SCP-IKO-B: Not an explosion. He exploded.
CM: The deceased?
SCP-IKO-B: I know it sounds crazy. Also, why are you guys wearing those Hazmat suits, anyway?
CM: Just standard protocol Ensign. Did you take any samples that may have survived?
SCP-IKO-B: Three horizontal slices. They left on a Chinook for St. ████████ Medical Center, about an hour before the explosion.
CM: Thank you for your cooperation Ma'am.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: After the interview was finished, SCP-IKO-B began showing the above mentioned symptoms. She was observed until death, and then cremated immediately, and buried at sea.
