Exquisite Corpse Contest Entry for SCP-5092
Item #: SCP-5092
Object Class: Neutralized Thaumiel
[ARCHIVED 01/06/2013] Special Containment Procedures: All data constituting SCP-XXXX is held on a 16TB hard disk drive at Site-15. The drive is kept in an electromagnetically-isolated removable locker and should remain inside this container except when within another EM-isolated space. At no time may the drive be exposed to another digital storage device (i.e. coming within a two meter radius without shielding between the devices) outside of a testing environment.
Individuals exposed to SCP-5092 are to be subjected to Class A amnesticization followed by a two week observation period. Any produced instances of SCP-5092-1 are to be appended to the current SCP-5092 archive. Should initial amnesticization prove insufficient, the affected individual will remain in isolation and continue incremental amnestic treatment until the effect is mitigated.
Updated Special Containment Procedures: All data constituting SCP-5092 is held on a collection of 16GB flash drives. Each drive is held in a separate electromagnetically-isolated compartment within a dedicated vault at Site-15, and no more than one drive may be exposed to the vault interior at any given time. In the event of exposure between two dedicated drives or between a drive and a digital storage device from an external source, the devices are to be considered a single contiguous unit and should be stored in the same compartment until refragmentation can be executed.
Individuals under the influence of SCP-5092 are kept under 24/7 armed surveillance for the duration of its effect along with a one month observation period directly afterward. Those incapable of returning to their original state are subject to refragmentation.
[ARCHIVED 01/06/2013] Description: SCP-5092 is 16TB of confidential data on an unknown organization currently contained on a hard disk drive. This data seems to change the organization it is connected to on a bimonthly basis.
Exposure to SCP-5092 has led individuals to believe that the information contained inside is somehow relevant to them and their personal life, the individual is now classified as SCP-5092-1. This obsession will grow in the individual until it becomes all-consuming. This exposure is lethal if not treated.
The individual will attempt to destroy SCP-5092 and any device that it was connected to. See Addendums 5092 1 and 2 for more details.
SCP-5092 will attempt to attach itself to any storage device within a two meter distance without the help of an individual. It wipes the memory of the device entirely, because of this SCP-5092 could be useful in completely erasing sensitive information on the Foundation or other subjects.
Updated Description: SCP-5092 is contained within 1,000 16GB flash drives. The effects are the same, however if two drives come into the vicinity of each other, all information will be wiped in a 60 meter radius of the drives. Including information contained biologically, causing complete memory loss to individuals inside of the radius. The affected area will return to normal after a 10 minute period.
[ARCHIVED 12/0/2012]Addendum 5092-1: First instance of SCP-5092-1 was Security Officer O'Brien. O'Brien had become increasingly delusional after being posted outside SCP-5092's containment cell. Claiming that it had personal information about his family and home life. Later the same day of assignment, O'Brien broke into SCP-5092's cell. Security staff nearby detained O'Brien before he could destroy SCP-5092. O'Brien died from blood hemorrhaging in his prefrontal cortex two days later.
[ARCHIVED 1/02/2013]Addendum 5092-2: Further tests of SCP-5092's anomalous properties resulted in three more instances of SCP-5092-1. A group of D-Class personnel were sent into the cell to research the memetic effects in a controlled environment. After ten minutes, delusions and worry about personal information began. At two hours, the subjects attempted to destroy SCP-5092. Security staff detained them and transported them to the Site's Medical Ward.. Once brain hemorrhaging began, medical staff successfully kept the subjects from dying. Some patients were given amnestics, while others were left to let exposure take its course.
The subjects not given amnestics slowly downgraded into little more than animals mentally. Class A amnestics proved effective to cure the condition, however subjects who had been amnesticized prior to exposure must be given incremental amnestic until the effect mitigates. Subjects were monitored after amnesticization; over a period of two weeks subjects gained a form of mental disorder, in most cases psychosis or schizophrenia. However, some subjects did not develop any mental cases.
Not all individuals exposed to SCP-5092 became instances of SCP-5092-1. This factor is determined by the level of memetic resistance the individual has.
[ARCHIVED 1/06/2013]Addendum 5092-3: Dr. Brath, who was not in contact or in the vicinity of SCP-5092, only given reports of the object, broke into SCP-5092's cell. Reports were sent on January 6, 2013, after two hours of reports being sent. Brath is believed to have forgotten to go to the Site Medical Ward for amnestic administration, resulting in creation of another SCP-5092-1 instance. He was successful in destroying SCP-5092, the automatic locking mechanisms on the cell doors malfunctioned. Security staff were not able to detain Dr. Brath in time. He has lost all memory, and has been admitted to Site-15's Medical Wing. SCP-5092 is labelled as a cognitohazard and classified as Neutralized.
Addendum 5092-4: Dr. Brath began writing binary on anything he could find two weeks after initial destruction. Further investigation discovered that SCP-5092 had transferred itself to Brath's brain, and was writing the information through binary in a repetitive order. Translation uncovered the data was a cheesepuff recipe. Data was transferred to 1,000 16GB flash drives for storage. The data was non-anomalous until one year later, when all drives began exhibiting anomalous properties. SCP-5092 has been re-classified as Thaumiel.
Testing with a drive revealed the same effects as before, except individuals exposed are to be observed for a month's period.
Addendum 5092-A: Possible procedures to erase information without memory loss using SCP-5092 are possible. This process requires an SCP-5092 flash drive to be put into contact with the amygdala and prefrontal cortex. One second of contact is equal to one hour of information erased, it is unknown how this process works. Memory is information, however using this specific method with SCP-5092 results in information inside information being erased. This information includes: documents, removal of the sensation of pain or fear inside of a specific memory, and any confidential information passed by oral transmission.
