SCP-5178 is the designation for a collection of anomalous phenomena which share a causal link. SCP-5178-1 pertains to the immediate manifestation of several cognitohazardous advertisements appearing on various forms of the public domain upon an SCP-5178 reappearance event, henceforth referred to as 'Cirrus Events'.

Advertisements produced by the SCP-5178 phenomena display several anomalous effects, and, while effects may vary across instances, all instances share at least three common effects:

  • A spontaneous urge to purchase displayed products.
  • An overwhelming mental image of activities that an individual could use the displayed product for.
  • A sense of confidence and familiarity towards the advertising company shown.

Note: These effects have been shown to display varying levels of intensity in different subjects; this is currently believed to be a measure of mental resistance against general cognitohazardous phenomena.

SCP-5178-1 takes several forms during Cirrus events. As these events are almost instantaneous, it is not currently understood how SCP-5178 is able to manipulate and/or manifest in areas both physical and digital for advertising purposes, though it is notable enough to state that SCP-5178-1 has manifested as Digital advertisements in approximately 63.7% of recorded Cirrus events. List of taken forms and occurrences include:

  • ██ Billboards
  • ███ Website advertisements1
  • ██ Emails
  • 1 Aerial advertisement2

SCP-5178-2 pertains to objects advertised by the SCP-5178-1 phenomenon. SCP-5178-2 instances, regardless of content, are displayed in a way to mock and/or ridicule individuals who are deceased at the approximate time of Cirrus events. These individuals are, in almost all recorded Cirrus events, well known in world culture and/or subject to controversial discussion3. It is currently believed that feelings of outrage, confusion, and similar emotional responses to SCP-5178-2 phenomena are a result of physiological factors and not of anomalous origin.
