Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard containment chamber with a single unarmed security officer posted at the door. Permission to wear SCP-XXXX must be granted by Level 2 research personnel, and exposure to the sound produced by the object must be limited to 3 minutes. Because containment poses no real challenge, SCP-XXXX is considered Safe.
Description: SCP-XXXX appears to be a set of 1970s stereo headphones. Despite the aging evident in the cracking of the leather and damage to the ear pieces, SCP-XXXX produces sound that is similar in quality to many modern day headphones. What also separates it from similar models is it's lack of a cord, and the fact that it does not need one to operate. The method by which the SCP-XXXX keeps itself operational is, as of yet, unknown.
Test subjects who have worn SCP-XXXX have reported that the device plays whatever music is desired by the wearer. After a short amount of time, subjects experience symptoms similar to those caused by sedative drugs, preventing them from removing SCP-XXXX. Aid is often required from another staff member to remove the device. It is believed that a subliminal pitch produced by SCP-XXXX causes the brain to relax and become lethargic.
Subjects who experienced prolonged exposure to sound produced by SCP-XXXX claimed that they could still hear the sound created by SCP-XXXX as if they were still wearing it days, even weeks after removing it. Though the residual sound never lead to any permanent hearing loss, it did render subjects deaf to all other sounds until it eventually dissipated.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was first purchased at an antique store in █████, Texas by a Foundation field agent. Though the agent had originally intended to use SCP-XXXX for personal entertainment purposes, they experienced in inability to move their arms upon wearing it. After successfully removing SCP-XXXX by making it fall off of their head, the agent relinquished it to the Foundation for containment.
When questioned about SCP-XXXX, the antique store owner denied knowing of it's anomalous properties. To prevent knowledge of SCP-XXXX from leaking into the public, all witnesses were administered Class A amnestics.
