Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept contained within an elongated receptacle constructed of tool steel, measuring fifteen (15) feet in length. The receptacle is to remain sealed via a combination lock, and the solution to the lock made known only to Level 2 Foundation personnel assigned to SCP-XXXX, and the above security clearance levels. D-Class test personnel may additionally be given the combination for the purpose of unlocking the SCP-XXXX receptacle, as per the authority of Level 3 clearance or above.
The receptacle itself is to be contained within a Foundation-standard containment chamber. When testing of SCP-XXXX is performed, no fewer than two (2) armed Foundation security personnel are to be on standby for the potential termination of an SCP-XXXX-1 instance.
Male foundation personnel are to be kept at a recommended distance of fifteen (15) feet from SCP-XXXX, even if SCP-XXXX is sealed within the receptacle. With exceptions under test conditions, no male personnel are to be within four (4) feet of SCP-XXXX. Male personnel who, outside of controlled test conditions, make direct contact with SCP-XXXX are to be separated from SCP-XXXX as swiftly as possible, with termination authorised if deemed necessary. Following testing, only female personnel are to be assigned to the retrieving of SCP-XXXX and placing it back in the receptacle. Furthermore, any transportation of SCP-XXXX to another site, or to the testing area, is to be carried out by female personnel.
Male personnel exposed to SCP-XXXX via either proximity or direct contact are to be either apprehended and medically examined, or terminated depending on the subject's level of progression into an SCP-XXXX-1 instance. All SCP-XXXX-1 instances are to be terminated upon culmination of testing.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a spear, with a spear-head in a leaf-shape constructed of bronze, measuring precisely twelve (12) imperial feet in length from base to spear-tip. Object is constructed in the Mycenaean fashion, though attempts to date SCP-XXXX have proven inconclusive.
SCP-XXXX was recovered from ████████, on the ██/██/20██, in Greece. Recovery by field agents embedded in local law enforcement took place following an event hereby known as Incident XXXX-A. Possession of SCP-XXXX fell unto a resident from ████████ one day prior to recovery by the Foundation. Mr. ████ ██████████, after an undetermined amount of time after falling into possession of SCP-XXXX, was identified to be the first known instance of SCP-XXXX-2 after discovering the object on his property.
Following Incident XXXX-A, noted below, Class B Amnestics were supplied to ████████'s residents and local law enforcement, with information on the incident suppressed and hidden from news sources by agents embedded within their networks.
SCP-XXXX's unnatural properties have been, through study of Incident XXXX-A and a number of experimentation attempts and logs, concluded to be a primarily rage inducing affect. Subjects within close proximity to SCP-XXXX, who have been instructed to report their feelings as they near it, describe a compulsion to touch and hold SCP-XXXX when within a distance of approximately fifteen feet, though this has varied for individual. Instructions not to touch SCP-XXXX will be invariably ignored after a certain amount of time, seemingly dependent on both the mental strength of the subject and their natural aggression levels, has elapsed.
Direct contact with SCP-XXXX is believed to be the first phase of the transformation of a test subject, or any exposed personnel, into an SCP-XXXX-1 instance. The transformation does not occur on the physical, but rather the psychological level, as subjects who establish direct contact with SCP-XXXX will very swiftly begin a descent into an uncontrollable rage. This rage becomes progressively worse, proportional to exposure, and though rage is not a quantifiable aspect, there is no known maximum 'limit' as to the effect of SCP-XXXX.
Transformation into an SCP-XXXX-1 instance is determined when the subject exhibits and verbally communicates a complete shift of identity, responding to neither legal name or D-Class number. Instead, the subject will profess themselves to be A-re, the god of war in the Mycenaean theology and the so-called 'proto-Ares'. Rate of progression to this identity is varied, and appears to depend upon the natural aggression levels of the subject, presumably tied to testosterone levels. Observably 'timid' test subjects have produced an as yet unsurpassed maximum time of transformation at eight minutes and four seconds, timed from the moment contact with SCP-XXXX was established to the first vocalisation of identity as A-re. The shortest time observed for transformation was just fifty-three seconds.
An SCP-XXXX-1 instance will attempt to use SCP-XXXX in an offensive manner, and do so with an apparent degree of skill. Subject's knowledge of any armed or unarmed martial arts (or lack thereof) is not believed relevant to this ability. All living human beings are regarded as viable targets for SCP-XXXX-1, whether they pose a threat to SCP-XXXX-1 or not. Previous friendship, nor blood-ties and kinship to the subject that became SCP-XXXX-1, are also irrelevant, and SCP-XXXX-1 will attempt to kill all humans regardless of sex, ethnic group, age (including infancy), or relation to the subject.
Once a subject is identified as an SCP-XXXX-1 instance, there is no known method for reversing the transformation. As of Experiment Log XXXX - E-C, termination is now mandated for SCP-XXXX-1 instances unless countermanded by Foundation personnel of Level 4 clearance or higher for specific testing. Experiment Log XXXX - E-C also demonstrated that multiple instances of SCP-XXXX-1 can exist at the same time, and will attack each other on sight as they do all other humans in range.
SCP-XXXX-1 shows no other interest in humans other than to kill. Despite this warping of intentions within a subject, SCP-XXXX demonstrates no discernible consciousness or will, and its properties therefore seem to be passive rather than active.
Experiment Log XXXX - E-B demonstrated a key aspect to the nature of SCP-XXXX, the ramifications of which resulted in the updating of containment procedures. Only humans of the male sex are susceptible to SCP-XXXX's unnatural affects. Females, regardless of natural or artificial testosterone or aggression levels, remain completely unaffected and unable to transform into an SCP-XXXX-1 instance. Researcher Jane ███████ hypothesised in Experiment Log XXXX - E-B that the professed identity as A-re, an entity typically considered a male embodiment of war, therefore requires a male subject to create an SCP-XXXX-1 instance.
How SCP-XXXX is capable of registering the difference between males and females is as of yet unknown. Testing is also scheduled regarding the susceptibility to males with the XXY chromosomal defect, as well as females with the XO chromosomal defect. Experiment Log XXXX - E-F further demonstrated that subjects convinced of a gender or sexual identity divorced from their biological sex are affected no differently than those whose gender or sexual identity are not divorced, though further testing is scheduled with female subjects to explore this.
