Containment Class:
neutralized
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5846 has been buried at a Foundation owned cemetery at Site-87 by the request of Dr. Charles Monmenle.
Description: SCP-5846 was a 54 year old Africian American male who stood at approximately 1.95 meters (or 6 foot 4 inches) in height and weighed approximately 220 pounds, although during the final stages of his disease he lost 63% of his body mass, only weighing in at 85 pounds at the time of his death. Before experiencing rapid hair loss, SCP-5846 had thinning grey hair and a large, well trimmed greying beard. SCP-5846 also had several ritualistic tattoos all over his body, especially around the torso, upper back, and neck regions. His tattoos depicted various symbols, the most common among them being a wolf’s head, which SCP-5846 said was of great significance to its religion. SCP-5846 would also often speak in a yet unknown language, which was similar in dialect to French, although with some notable differences.
SCP-5846 had also insisted on wearing the same outfit he had been discovered in during his time at the Foundation, which consisted of a long purple robe of undetermined make, a large golden cloak which covered the robe, and a long, dark blue stole which was lined with gold. SCP-5846 said that the outfit was also of great significance to his religion, and that taking it off would be an insult to the Ocrane The Ocrane, based off descriptions given by SCP-5846, appear to be a collection of several god-like beings that are worshipped by the members of SCP-5846’s religion, whom according to SCP-5846 are the most powerful being in his world, making them of keen interest to the Foundation.
SCP-5846 identified himself as the High Prophet Xeael, which is the only name he would respond to when questioned by foundation staff. SCP-5846 would grow extremely angry when not referred to by this name, saying that it was a disrespect to call him anything else, as his name was given to him by the Ocrane. SCP-5846 often said that disrespecting the Ocrane would mean he would be permanently exiled, which he explained was the greatest punishment anyone could receive.
SCP-5846 suffered from a fatal anomalous disease, which up until this point had never been seen by the Foundation. The disease, although it affected SCP-5846’s entire body, primarily affected SCP-5846’s hands and certain areas of his forearm. The skin of these areas were black and shriveled, similar to that of a long deceased cadaver experiencing advanced stages of decay, which caused SCP-5846 immense pain if touched or otherwise applied pressure to. At regular intervals these areas would excrete a thick, black smoke for varying amounts of time, ranging from 30 minutes to 6 hours. During these events, classified as SCP-5846-1 events, SCP-5846 would experience varying amounts of pain that ranged from mild to extremely severe. Following one of these events SCP-5846 would always lose consciousness, and would remain unconscious for 2-3 hours.
SCP-5846 had also made many claims to be a high ranking member in the theocratic government of a country he calls Thulbouriu. SCP-5846 had given various accounts of Thulbouri, saying that it is ruled by the Ocrane, who speak their will through someone he calls the Great High Priestess. SCP-5846 also claims that he was one of the Great High Priestess’s appretiances, which meant that he was the head priest at one of the 12 churches in Thulbouri’s capital city, specifically the one dedicated to one of the Ocrane who he called Dykmos.
I request that all mentions of Xeael as SCP-5846 be immediately changed to his proper name out of respect for his beliefs and customs. It would not be difficult or troublesome to do this, so I see no reason not to respect the wishes of a former friend. -Dr. Monmenle
Your request is denied, and please from now on refer to SCP-5846 by his proper Foundation designation. We do not need to respect the requests of a dead man, even if he was your friend. Besides, all of SCP-5846’s beliefs and customs died with him. We need not trouble ourselves with them anymore. -Dr. Rodriguez
Addendum-01: SCP-5846 was discovered on ██-██-███ by local police in ███████, █████ after receiving reports of an injured man appearing out of thin air in the middle of a major highway. Upon arriving at the scene police found several local citizens surrounding SCP-5846 attempting to help him. Reports of the incident say that SCP-5846 was extremely confused and disoriented, and lashed out at the citizens, managing to severely injure at least one man and moderately injuring at least three police officers. After breaking one police officer's nose SCP-5846 began screaming loudly, many eyewitnesses describing him as being in immense physical pain, worse than many of them had ever seen before. Following this pain, an SCP-5846-1 event began, which caused mass panic among the crowd surrounding SCP-5846.
A foundation agent implemented into the police force alerted foundation forces to this, and a mobile task force was sent in to capture and contain SCP-5846, along with administering class B amnestics to all those involved in the event. SCP-5846, upon capture, was found to have several other injuries besides the affected smoking areas upon his hands and forearms, including several broken ribs, a fractured skull, and several deep cuts along his neck, wrists, and back, along with one fatal stab wound, which had to treated quickly to prevent SCP-5846 from bleeding out. Due to all this, SCP-5846 had to be rushed to a Foundation medical facility so that his injuries could be assessed and treated.
The SCP-5846-1 event ended after about 40 minutes of constant smoke excretion, following which SCP-5846 was unconscious for 72 hours. Then, on ██-██-███ SCP-xxx awoke in a panicked state, quickly attempting to escape containment. However, he quickly collapsed due to his injuries, and on-site guards quickly detained him. SCP-5846 was soon transferred to the nearest Foundation Site, Site-87, and put in a standardized containment cell, where he showed severe anger and confusion at his surroundings. SCP-5846 frequently pounded on the walls of his containment cell, shouting demands in an unknown language, which was at first thought to be some sort of localized version of french. SCP-5846 also showed extreme aggression towards guards, shouting at them in the same unknown language.
Two weeks following containment, SCP-5846 seemed to significantly calm down, resigning himself to his cell. Determining that it was now safe to be around SCP-5846, the project director, Dr. Charles Monmenle, conducted an interview with SCP-5846 in an attempt to learn more about his condition and origins. The following is a transcript of the first interview between Dr. Monmenle and SCP-5846.
Interviewed: SCP-5846
Interviewer: Dr. Charles Monmenle
Foreword: The following interview was conducted in french, as that was the closest existing language to the one SCP-5846 spoke in. However, due to the notable differences between our version and SCP-5846’s version of the language, certain words or phrases spoken by SCP-5846 are not currently fully understood, meaning that some of what SCP-5846 said has been only roughly translated into english, which is something researchers are asked to keep in mind when reading.
<Begin Log>
Dr. Monmenle: Hello, SCP-5846, my name is Dr. Charles Monmenle. This is the first interview in what I hope to be many with you. We have…several questions for you, if you are willing to answer them.
SCP-5846: Your…words. They are strange. Where are you from?
Dr. Monmenle: Where I am from is not the current concern. Please, SCP-xxx, we must ask you some questions.
SCP-5846: How dare you speak to me in this way? Don’t you know who I am? You may sound strange, but we speak the same tongue! You must be a Thulbourian! So you must know of your superior!
Dr. Monmenle: I’m sorry, I’m afraid I do not know what you are talking about.
SCP-5846: What do you-where am I?
Dr. Monmenle: Right, I forgot that you were not debriefed. You are in the SCP foundation. We contain anomalies, such as yourself.
SCP-5846: SCP…I’ve never heard of such a thing. What country are you working for?
Dr. Momenle: We do not work for any country, we are independent from any government.
SCP-5846: Impossible! Then who created you? No independent organization would survive in times like these!
Dr. Monmenele: SCP-5846, we are not here to discuss the foundation. You can be debriefed on where you are after the interview. For now, as I have mentioned, we have questions.
SCP-5846: Why do you keep calling me that?
** Dr. Monmenle:** I’m sorry?
SCP-5846: SCP whatever! My name is Xeael! Prophet Xeael! You are disrespecting me by calling me anything different!
Dr. Monemenle: I’m…sorry. Would you prefer me to call you Xeael?
SCP-5846: It is my name.
Dr. Monmenle: Right, of course. Anyway, SCP-I mean, Xeael, do you know how you got here?
SCP-5846: Of course not, I don’t even know where I am!
Dr. Monmenle: Ok then, can you tell me about your injuries. How did you get them? I’m especially curious about your arms. Do you know why they are like that?
SCP-5846: I will tell you no such thing, how do I even know I can trust you!
Dr. Monmenle: SCP-xx-
SCP-5846: It’s Xeael!
Dr. Monmenle: Right, sorry. Xeael, if we are going to get anywhere you need to cooperate with us. Being stubborn like this will get us nowhere.
SCP-5846: Cooperate? Why would I cooperate with people who locked me up in a prison cell? Look at me, talking with a wolf like you. It was mere days ago when I was talking with my equals, performing great deeds for the Ocrane, and now I am stuck here.
Dr. Monmenle: I’m…sorry, but you referred to me as a wolf. What do you mean by that?
SCP-5846: Do you know nothing? You may speak my tongue however strangely you do, but you are clearly not a Thulbourian, you don’t even know our basic phrases!
Dr. Monmenle: SCP-xx-Xeael, can you please answer the question.
SCP-5846: Fine, if you must know, wolves like you are people who wish to devour my people. Anyone who does not align with Thulbouriu, and thus, does not align with the Ocrane, is considered a wolf, for anyone who is not under the Ocrance wishes to destroy the Ocrane. It is the way of every enemy we encounter.
Dr. Monmenle: Xeael, trust me, the foundation is not interested in destroying the Ocrane. In fact, if you could, can you please tell me who the Ocrane are. I’m afraid I am…unaware.
*SCP-5846:** You're kidding. How do you not know of the Ocrane? Everyone knows of the Ocrane, even the filthy wolves who claim to not believe in them!
Dr. Monmenle: Xeael, please.
SCP-5846: I-fine. The Ocrane, as all know, are the only 12 beings in the entire world to reach full transcendence, rising above their physical and mental bodies to become fully pure spiritual beings. They are the most powerful beings in the world. No force can match them.
Dr. Monmenle: I…I see. I’m guessing that these beings are held in high regard where you are from. Are they some form of gods to you?
SCP-5846: Gods? I am not familiar with the concept, but I assure that whatever it is they Ocrane are far greater. Simply by existing the Ocrane have attracted millions to build their temples and bow to them on their knees. The Ocrane are better and more perfect than any concept that has been thought of by man or beast.
Dr. Monmenle: I see. So, Xeael, can you tell us more about the deeds you mentioned? What were you doing before you ended up here?
SCP-5846: I will tell you nothing. The information you have heard so far is only common knowledge any simpleton would know! How you do not it already is beyond me, but that is all I will tell you!
Dr. Monmenle: Xeael, please, we simply want to understand.
SCP-5846: You understand nothing! Do you know what kind of times we are living in? Why would I give anyone information they don’t need to know?
Dr. Monmenle: What kind of…times we’re living in? What do you mean?
SCP-5846: I…war times! The war! I can’t give any strangers information with the war going on, you’ll just use it against us!
Dr. Monmenle: The war? What war are you referring to?
SCP-5846: What-you're kidding! The war, the great war! It’s been going on for nearly 240 years at this point! How do you, how…
Dr. Monmenle: SC- Xeael, I’m sure you’ve been able to gather that you're in a very different place from your home. Wherever you’re from, this place is different.
SCP-5846: No, but, but you must know about the war! It’s…it’s devastated billions! It’s torn hundreds of countries to pieces, you…there’s no way!
Dr. Monmenle: SCP-5846-
*SCP-5846:** Stop, stop talking. I need…I need to rest. I must meditate. I…we’re done here.
Dr. Monmenle: Wait, SCP-5846, I mean, Xeael, wait, just-
SCP-5846: Doctor, I said we’re done.
Dr. Monmenle: I…ok. Fine. I’ll have you debriefed on the Foundation so that you have a better understanding of where you are. Then I must request another interview as soon as possible.
SCP-5846: Fine, fine. Just…let me rest for now.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Following the interview SCP-5846 was taken back to his cell, where he proceeded to kneel, going silent for several hours, occasionally speaking loudly in an unknown language different to the one he spoke in with Dr.Monmenle, suggesting that it is a language SCP-5846 speaks in exclusively for prayer or other religious activity. After SCP-5846 finished it’s meditation, Dr. Momenle requested it be given a brief document explaining the basics of the foundation as to give SCP-5846 a basic understanding of where it was. This request was approved, and SCP-5846 was given a level 1 resercher’s document on how the Foundation functions and what it’s goals are. After reading through the document, SCP-5846 requested another interview with Dr. Monmenle, saying that he needed to talk with someone about all of this.
Interviewed: SCP-5846
Interviewer: Dr. Charles Monmenle
Foreword: The following interview was conducted in french. The interview took place 2 days after Interview-01.
<Begin Log>
Dr. Monmenle: Well Xeael, I didn’t expect to be talking with again so soon.
SCP-5846: Yes, well, I have much I want to talk about. I am…troubled after reading the paper you gave me.
Dr. Monmenle: Troubled? How so?
SCP-5846: Your…SCP Foundation, it is unlike anything I've ever heard of before. It simply does not exist. Or at least…it shouldn’t. I would know about it, I am right under the Great High Priestess. She would not allow it. It is against the Ocrance, locking up their creatures, their creations. But, even the countries who might have made such a Foundation as this in secret…they would have no use for it. No, no use at all. Not in a war such as this…I’m not in the same place as I was, am I?
Dr. Monmenle: No, you're not. We don’t know how, but it seems that you have somehow passed over into our world from yours. From what I have heard so far from you, there is no doubt that you are from an alternate dimension. The Foundation would surely know of a 240 year long war if it was any threat to them.
SCP-5846: Alternate dimensions, foundations that contain creatures, call them anomalies, this is all insane!
Dr. Monmenle: It can all be a bit…jarring at first. But now, since you know we have no interest in harming you or your country, are you willing to…answer some questions?
SCP-5846: Yes, yes, you have proven to me you are no threat. Ask away.
Dr. Monmenle: Right. First off, can you tell me where you are from exactly. Can you describe it for me, or give me any small details that you consider important?
SCP-5846: Yes, I can. I come from Thulbourni, the chosen nation of the Ocrane. It is a glorious place, the only place where the truth is widely known and practiced. It alone has truly survived this war. While all other nations slowly crumble, Thulbourni will remain strong. The people prosper, the leaders are kind, and everyone looks up to the Ocrane. Truly a righteous and glorious country. I have…I have missed it greatly in the few weeks I have been away. But I have no doubt I will return to it someday. I assure you that at this very moment the Great High Priestess is talking with the Ocrane, working with them to find a way to bring me back!
Dr. Monmenle: You truly believe that the Ocrane will bring you back to your world.
SCP-5846: I do.
*Dr. Monmenle:** Ok. What about this High Priestess, can you tell me a bit about her?
SCP-5846: She is the greatest mortal being to ever walk the Earth. She is the only one the Ocrane feels is worthy to talk to. It is under her that the whole nation operates. I have met her, spoke with her, ate with her, as have all the high prophets. She is…truly amazing. She is truly a kind woman. She took me in, took in all my brothers, and trained us in her ways. I have dedicated my life to her and the Ocrane as my way of thanks.
Dr. Monmenle: She…took you in? So she adopted you?
SCP-5846: In a way. I was chosen by her. Each high prophet was brought up from a peasant home as a child. The High Priestess graciously lifted me out of what was destined to be an impoverished life as a drafted soldier for the war. Both of my parents had died by that point and it was her kindness that saved me from life in a training facility.
Dr. Monmenle: You mean that children are sent to training facilities?
SCP-5846: Of course. Where else would they go?
Dr. Monmenle: I…ok, Xeael, can you tell me any more information about the place where you come from?
SCP-5846: Well, I could-
(SCP-5846 pauses, grabbing one of the blackened areas of skin on his forearm and letting out a small, pained cry. SCP-5846 doubles over, appearing to be in immense pain for several seconds before letting go of the affected area, breathing heavily.)
Dr. Monmenle: SCP-5846, are you-
SCP-5846: I’m fine doctor, and please, remember, it’s Xeael, not SCP-whatever.
Dr. Monmenle: Are…are you sure? I was unaware you were experiencing any pain.
SCP-5846: It has been only minor, nothing of concern.
Dr. Monmenle: It’s because of your condition, right? Can you tell me about it? Do you know how you got it, or what it does?
SCP-5846: Unfortunately, I do, doctor. You see, I am a dying man.
Dr. Monmenle: What?
SCP-5846: Yes, there was a raid. These…these lawless dogs had somehow managed to force themselves into the palace. Magic user. Fidelity magic user. One of them went for the High Priestess, the most powerful one of them all. I had to do something, it was my duty. I leapt in front of her, taking the brunt of the spell with my arms. After that I only remember blacking out and waking up a few seconds later in blazing light. Loud noises all around me, people I did not recognize, I was terrified, and then…I don’t remember. I wish I could, but- (SCP-5846 pauses, knocking his fists against his head) it’s like a blank canvas. That is until I woke up again, and saw the markings on my arms. It was then I knew.
Dr. Monmenle: Knew what, exactly?
SCP-5846: The curse that afflicts me, it is considered so awful that to afflict it upon someone is considered one of the worst sins to commit, so utterly terrible that Ocrane will forever disregard you as worthy only of the Earth’s deserts.
Dr. Monmenle: What is it?
SCP-5846: It is called the soul killer. It slowly seeps you of all life, disconnecting your soul from your body and releasing it through these injuries (SCP-5846 motions towards it’s blackened area of skin). That smoke you saw? That was my soul being leaked out into the world. The reason this curse is considered so terrible is because it not only forces out your soul before it is ready, but it cuts your soul in disconnected pieces. An unwhole soul can never be accepted by the Ocrane. If one’s soul is incomplete then that means they will never reach the afterlife. When they die, their memory, their consciousness, everything that makes them what they are will simply disappear. Be gone without a trace. They will never think another thought, experience another experience, and their consciousness will be snuffed out, consiended forever to oblivion.
Dr. Monmenle: That’s…terrible.
SCP-5846: Yes, well, worry not! I have no fear. The Ocrane will save me, they save everyone who believes in them. I have seen them do it too. I once heard of a dead man being brought back to life! If the Ocrance can bring back the dead, then they can cure something as simple as this!
Dr. Monmenle: And you're sure of this. You truly believe they can save you?
SCP-5846: Of course, why wouldn’t they. I’d be a fool to believe anything else!
Dr. Monmenle: …Ok then. Well Xeael, thank you for your time. We have certainly come much farther in this interview. I look forward to talking with you again soon.
SCP-5846: Yes, me as we-
(SCP-5846 suddenly falls out of his chairs, once again grabbing one of the affected areas of blackened skin. SCP-5846 begins screaming, seeming to be in immense pain once again. Dr. Monmenle calls for a guard, and SCP-5846 is taken out of the interview room just as another SCP-5846x-1 event begins.)
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Following the interview SCP-5846 was rushed to the Site-87 hospital wing, where the SCP-5846x-1 event continued, black smoke emitting from the affected areas of SCP-5846’s skin. SCP-5846 began convulsing, still screaming violently. Foundation doctors attempted to help him, but were unable to do much due to lack of understanding of SCP-5846’s condition. After 30 minutes, the SCP-5846-1 event finished, and SCP-5846 remained unconscious for 3 days before waking up, where he was kept in the hospital wing for observation by request of Dr. Monmenle.
Addendum-02: SCP-5846 remained under observation for 8 days following the SCP-5846-1 event. During this time Foundation doctors exclaimed him for any other noticeable health concerns. None were found other than his previously healed injuries that he had when he first arrived, including the bandaged cuts on his neck and his currently healing ribs. It was noted however that the affected blackened areas did seem to have grown slightly, although at the time this was not noted as something to be of any concern.
Once doctors had determined that SCP-5846 was healthy he was sent back to his containment cell. While in containment SCP-5846 requested several books on this world’s history so that he could better understand the world he now occupied. This request was approved, and SCP-5846 was given a limited amount of historical books. SCP-5846 showed a great interest in the books that covered subjects such as World War 1 and 2, the Revolutionary War, and the Punic Wars.
SCP-5846 was also scheduled to have weekly interviews with Dr. Monmenle so that the foundation could be informed on SCP-5846’s health and the progression of his condition, along with gaining more information on the world that SCP-5846 came from. Below are several selected interviews between Dr. Monmenle and SCP-5846 that the Foundation deemed of particular interest.
Interviewed: SCP-5846
Interviewer:: Dr. Charles Monmenle
Foreword: The following interview was conducted in french, and took place 2 weeks after SCP-5846 was released from the Site-87 hospital wing when Dr. Monmenle deemed that SCP-5846 had been enough resting time to recover from the SCP-5846-1 event.
<Begin Log>
Dr. Monmenle: Greetings Xeael, glad to see you making a full recovery.
SCP-5846: …Yes…yes, of course doctor.
Dr. Monmenle: …Are you feeling alright? You seem to be a little…off today.
SCP-5846: Yes, yes, I’m fine, it’s just that…can I ask you a question doctor?
Dr. Monmenle: Oh, um, sure, why not.
SCP-5846: Thank you, it’s just…this has been bothering me. Is it-is it wrong that I enjoy reading the books about the wars of your world?
Dr. Monmenle: Why would that be wrong?
SCP-5846: Because…because it makes me happy to know that your world has also gone through and is going through terrible wars. I find some sort of…sick comfort in it. Just to know that-that my world isn’t the only one suffering with such an affliction.
Dr. Monmenle: Oh…Xeael, everyone finds their comfort from an awful situation in their own way. Who am I, or who is anyone, to say that you're wrong for being glad that your world isn’t the only sick and twisted one out there?
SCP-5846: I-thank you doctor. I needed to hear that.
Dr. Monmenle: Right, anytime Xeael. So anyway, how are you adjusting to life in the Foundation.
SCP-5846: Well, it's not all bad. The food, though not what I’m used to, the little interaction I have is nice, and the books, all of the books that you have given me have been wonderful to read through.
Dr. Monmenle: Glad to hear it! So how has your…condition been?
SCP-5846: It’s been fine. I do not fear it, for I know it will not harm me in the long run. The Ocrane will save me, they save everyone, like I have told you. Fear not, doctor, in a few weeks time I will be back in my home, eating with the Great High Priestess and performing mighty deeds for the Ocrane once again, with no curse to afflict me. Trust me doctor, you will soon see the true might of the Ocrane.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Dr. Monmenle has noted SCP-5846’s insistence on how the Ocrane will return to save him. In a report to fellow researcher Dr. Rodriguez detailing his time with SCP-5846, Dr. Monmenle writes ‘I hope he’s right about the Ocrane, for his sake and for mind. I can’t bare to see what will happen if the Ocrane or his High Priestess never come.’
Interviewed: SCP-5846
Interviewer: Dr. Charles Monmenle
Foreword: The following interview was conducted in french. By the time of this interview, SCP-5846 had been in containment for 3 months and had experienced 4 major SCP-5846-1 events. SCP-5846’s health had also begun greatly deteroiting, as around this time he began losing body mass at a much faster rate, going from 220 pound to 185 pounds in the span of 3 weeks. The affected blackened areas on his arms had grown to cover almost his entire forearm and parts of his upper arm, and had completely covered his hands except for the majority of his palms, although by this time even those were beginning to be covered.
<Begin Log>
Dr. Monmenle: Xeael, how have you been? Experiencing any new pain? Have you started any new books you enjoy?
SCP-5846: I don’t understand.
Dr. Monmenle: I’m sorry?
SCP-5846: (voice raised) I said I don’t understand! Why haven’t the Ocrane come yet? They are supposed to be all powerful beings, so where are they to help me!?
Dr. Monmenle: Xeael, I’m sorry, but where is this coming from? You seemed fine the last few times we’ve talked!
SCP-5846: (yelling) I was fine then because I still thought the Ocrane we’re coming! But it’s months now, months! And I haven’t heard a single word! Haven’t been given a single sign! Nothing to show that the Ocrane are even listening! But I don’t understand why! I am their most devoted follower! I’ve done everything, given my life to them! And how do they repay me? They don’t even lift a finger while I sit here, in a cell, dying!
Dr. Monmenle: Xeael, the Ocrane are in a completely different dimension, maybe that’s just…slowing them down.
SCP-5846: (yelling) The Ocrane are supposed to transcend all physical boundaries. Crossing dimensions should be easy for them, easy! But no, they stay, sitting in silence while I sit waiting for- (SCP-5846 pauses, grimacing)
Dr. Monmenle: Xeael, I’m sorry. I won’t lie and tell you I know why the Ocrane hasn't come yet, but…I truly am sorry.
SCP-5846: No, no. I should be the one saying sorry doctor. It’s not your fault, I shouldn't have yelled at you. But…I was a high prophet, I am a high prophet! Why…where is the High Priestess. She raised me, I’m…I’m like a son to her, she even told me that. My brothers, the other high prophets, what about them, surely she would look for them. Then why…
Dr. Monmenle: It’s ok Xeael. You can talk to me. I may not be a high prophet, but for now, until the Ocrane come to get you, which I’m sure they will, I’ll be here for you.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: ‘Xeael’s health is getting worse. I can see it every time I talk to him. His skin, his voice, his eyes, it’s like the very life is being sucked out of him. I don’t know how much more I can take. Each time he speaks of the Ocrane, of the high priestess, of the high prophets, I can see a little bit of hope die in him. We need a way to get him back, or at least a way to heal him. I don’t…I don’t know if I could stand watching him die. -Dr. Monmenle.
Interviewed: SCP-5846
Interviewer: Dr. Charles Monmenle
Foreword: The following interview was conducted in french. By the time of this interview SCP-5846’s health had begun rapidly detoring. He had gone through 5 SCP-5846-1 events in the course of the weeks leading up to this interview, each one much longer than any previous recording event. He had lost nearly 48 pounds, making him weigh in at only 127 pounds. The affected blackened areas had grown exponentially, now covering the entirety of his hands and forearms, and at the time of the interview it had begun moving towards his upper arms.
<Begin Log>
Dr. Monmenle: Xeael, it’s nice to see you again. Did you finish the book you were telling me about last week?
SCP-5846: Yes doctor, I quite enjoyed it. I might read it again someday if you keep giving me all of these dreadfully boring books like you have been recently.
Dr. Monmenle: (laughing) Ok Xeael, I’ll make sure to pick out some more interesting books in the future. Don’t want to have you re-reading, that might make you even more bored.
SCP-5846: (laughing) Yes doctor, we wouldn’t want that.
Dr. Monmenle: Right, so…any health concerns? How is your…
SCP-5846: I’m afraid not well. I see no point in lying to you anymore, you can probably see it anyway. I can barely move. It’s getting harder to eat. I can barely feed myself, not it matters anyway. I can’t even work up the energy to be hungry. It’s even getting hard to flip a page. I would hate it if this curse took away my reading too, it’s already taken everything else.
Dr. Monmenle: I’m sorry to hear that Xeael. I’ve been trying to find a way to help you, but nothing seems to be working. But don’t worry, I think I’m getting close with this one thing, I just need to test it a bit and maybe it’ll be able to at least slow down the curse’s progression.
SCP-5846: I appreciate it, doctor, but…please, stop trying to find a way to help me.
Dr. Monmenle: What?
SCP-5846: I’ve actually been meaning to ask you this but, I’m a lost cause. I beg you, stop trying to look for a cure, it’ll only waste your time. I’ve heard of what this curse does to men before. If the rumors are true, then it’s better to just let me die.
Dr.Monmenle: Xeael, no! I refuse! I can’t just let you die, that would be…that’s wrong, I-I can’t do it!
SCP-5846 Please doctor! I’ve tried praying to Ocrane, begging them for a bit more time, a bit more life, or at least a chance to say goodbye to the High Priestess or even just one of the high prophets, my brothers! But…they continue to turn a deaf ear. The Ocrane have abandoned me. Left me for dead as soon as I’ve been marked unclean. I should never…I should never have put faith into them.
Dr. Monmenle: Xeael…I can’t believe, you can’t give up! You have to fight! Please!
SCP-5846: Doctor I’ve tried fighting and I’ve failed miserably. The only reason I’m still alive and still fighting is because of you and these conversations we have. All I do is sit and read and wait to die. You’re the only friend I have left to talk to. I’m…lost, and I won’t be found. So please, stop trying. I…I don’t want to bring you down with me.
Dr. Monmenle: Don’t say that! I will find a cure for you! You will live. I promise you.
SCP-5846: (laughs) Don’t make promises you can’t keep doctor. Trust me, you’ll regret them.

Closing Statement: Following this interview SCP-5846 was returned to his containment cell, where he refused to eat or drink anything, and when offered books to read he turned them down. SCP-5846 simply remained alone, sitting in his cell and refusing to talk to anyone. Dr. Monmenle noted this to be of high concern, and requested that SCP-5846 seek physiological assistance. This request was denied by Dr. Rodriguez, who did not deem it necessary.
This is a formal request for SCP-5846 to be given SCP-500 as a possible way to cure him of his disease. -Dr. Monmenle
Your request is denied. SCP-5846 is not of enough importance to be given such a valuable resource. I’m sorry doctor, but we can’t waste a pill on just anybody. -Dr. Rodriguez
Addendum-03: A week following the 35th interview between Dr. Monmenle and SCP-5846 the worst SCP-5846-1 event on record occurred. SCP-5846 was heard screaming in his cell, and when guards stationed outside went in to check on him they found SCP-5846 writhing on the floor in pain, large amounts of black smoke being excreting from the affected blackened areas. SCP-5846 was rushed to Site-87’s hospital wing, where he began experiencing rapid loss of hair and body mass, which had reached such a fatal point that by the time SCP-5846 reached the hosptial wing he required life support to continue living.
The SCP-5846-1 event lasted for 2 hours, after which SCP-5846 went unconscious for 5 days, during which time he appeared to be experiencing intense pain like that of when the SCP-5846-1 event was still happening. Dr. Monmenle was rushed into the hospital wing, where he stayed with SCP-5846 until he woke up.
Once awake, SCP-5846 requested that Dr. Monmenle and him have one last interview, since that week’s scheduled interview had to be put off. At first Dr. Monmenle refused, saying SCP-5846 wasn’t healthly enough to conduct an interview with. However, after a second request, Dr. Monmenle relented. The following is a transcript of the final interview between SCP-5846 and Dr. Monmenle.
Interviewed: SCP-5846
Interviewer: Dr. Charles Monmenle
Foreword: The following interview was conducted in french, the closest matching language to the one SCP-5846 spoke.
<Begin Log>
Dr. Monmenle: Xeael, I’m…sorry. I-I couldn’t…I couldn’t find a cure.
SCP-5846: It’s ok doctor. I have made peace with my fate. My time here, at this foundation, it’s…it’s been nice. I may not have been able to say goodbye to the Priestess or any of my prophet brethren, but…I’m glad I’ll be able to say goodbye to at least one of my friends.
Dr. Monmenle: I’m honored you consider me a friend. But…are you…are you ready to say goodbye?
SCP-5846: (sighs) I…no. Truthfully, I don’t think I’ll ever be ready. But…I won’t let that bother me.
(SCP-5846 winces, grabbing his arm in pain.)
Dr. Monmenle: Xeael!
SCP-5846: I’m fine doctor. Well, as fine as a dying man can be.
Dr. Monmenle: I’m…sorry that the Ocrane couldn’t save you. I’m sure, I’m sure they wanted to but for whatever reason the just-they just couldn’t.
SCP-5846: You know doctor, my one regret from my entire time being here was that I never could accept that the Ocrane weren’t coming to save me. I should’ve just made peace with it the moment I got here. But…now I have, and really that’s all that matters.
Dr. Monmenle: I’m glad you’ve made peace, Xeael. At least…at least you’ll pass with nothing to bother you.
SCP-5846: /(laughs)/ Well, about that, the truth is…I’m afraid doctor. I’m…I’m afraid of death when I know…there’ll be nothing after.
Dr. Monmenle: Well, whatever happens after death, isn’t it what happens in life that truly matters?
SCP-5846: Yes, yes, that’s a nice way to look at it.
(SCP-5846 winces again, gripping his arm in pain again.)
SCP-5846: Yes…goodbye doctor. It was nice talking to a friend before I go.
Dr. Monmenle: Goodbye, Xeael, I…it was nice talking to you too.
SCP-5846: Thank you doctor, for everything. I hope-I hope that you can find peace in both this life, and in the next.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Following the interview, Dr. Monmenle stayed with SCP-5846 until another SCP-5846-1 event began. SCP-5846 began to violently convulse. Smoke began to excrete from the affected areas of blackened skin, faster and in larger quantities than ever before. This continued for 10 minutes until SCP-5846’s heart rate and vitals spiked to an unhealthy degree before dropping significantly. Following this SCP-5846 experienced a complete organ failure, dying. Immediately following this SCP-5846’s body experienced rapid decay, only stopping once it reached advanced stages of bodily decay.
Addendum-04: Following SCP-5846’s death, Dr. Monmenle requested an extended break from his duties. This request was approved. Before leaving, Dr. Monmenle buried SCP-5846, by authorization of Dr. Rodriguez, site director. Afterwards, Dr. Monmenle wrote a note concerning SCP-5846 right before leaving for his break.
‘Xeael, or as the foundation will call him, SCP-5846, was a special case, at least to me. I don’t think, in my 15 plus years of working for the Foundation, that I’ve ever befriended an SCP. Xeael, no matter where he came from or what curse he had, was still just a man, a dying man. I know that nothing really could’ve been done to stop his inevitable fate, but after talking to him, after becoming his friend, I had to try. And I failed. And this file, this number, 5846, will always remind me of that. Wherever Xeael is now, whether in some sort of afterlife or completely lost to oblivion, I hope he’s at peace. Rest well, my friend. Rest well.’ -Dr.Monmenle
