Special Containment Procedures: SCP 3864 is kept in a room of surgical equipment near the medical wing of Site 19. SCP 3864 is in a clear white plastic container that resides within its own drawer that requires a fingerprint scan to open. The container has different slots for the different parts of SCP 3864. SCP 3864-1 is kept in the long slit along the side of the container while SCP 3864-2A through 2J are kept in their own individual slots. Usage of SCP 3864 needs to be approved by Level 2 personnel for whatever reason no matter how serious or life threatening it is. The testing of SCP 3864 with other SCPs must be approved by 3 members of Level 4 personnel.
After each test or procedure that includes throughout cleaning and sterilization of SCP 3864-1 and the piece of SCP 3864-2 that was used in said test or procedure. If this does not happen no anomalies effects will happen the next time that particular part of SCP 3864 is used for a procedure.
Description: SCP 3864 is surgical scalpel and 10 scalpel blades. SCP 3864-1 is the handle of the scalpel measuring 13 cm long and is made up of carbon steel. SCP 3864-2A through 2J are carbon steel blades. The blades are all number 11 surgical blades that all share the same measurements. The blades are 1.6 mm long, the widest point of each blade is 0.4 mm thick, and the angled cutting edge of each blade is 20 mm.
SCP 3864’s anomalies abilities only work when SCP 3864-1 and SCP 3864-2 are connected to each other. SCP 3864-1 does not show any anomalies properties when it is paired up with another surgical blade, even if the blade is also a number 11 blade. Likewise, SCP 3864-2 will not show any anomalies properties if it is paired up with another surgical handle.
When SCP 3864 is whole and used on a subject it must be used to create a cut that is deep enough to cause blood loss. However, it must be a cut that won’t stop bleeding unless it is treated otherwise no anomalies effects will be observed. The location also does not seem to matter for the cut as well. But if in the process of cutting another vital part of the body, such as the throat or heart, the subject may expire before any anomalies effects are noticed. Also, if the subject expires from blood loss no anomalies effects will occur. It also does not seem to matter which one of SCP 3864-2 is used on the subject, for each result is the same. Subject also needs to be awake and conscious for any effects to occur, this also includes the use of pain nullifiers such as anesthesia.
SCP 3864 seems to cure those it is used on of any physical, mental, or biological diseases or disorders. It is also noted that for the subject to be healed by SCP 3864 a liter of blood must be drained from the subject, the amount of time it takes for a liter of blood to be drawn from the body does not seem to matter either. If subject loses more blood than what is required anomalies effects will still occur but the effects will not be boosted by the extra amount of blood lost in treatment. It also seems that producing more cute or longer cuts with SCP 3864 will not speed up the process at which the blood leaves the body. It still always takes exactly 23 minutes for the infected blood to leave the body.
Testing and interviewing with several subjects and patients have shown that they can actually feel the disease leaving their body. Subjects all feel the same thing and describe each experience to sound as though it is universally the same. Subjects always remain conscious during the procedure, but it seems that while the initial cut with SCP 3864 is the only time the subject will not be 100% conscious. While the cut is being made subject’s eyes turn entirely black except for their irises, but their and their pupils will shrink to a diameter of 1 mm. The subject’s body will also become entirely numb. However once the cut is finished the subject’s eyes will return to normal instantly and their body will regain all feeling. Subjects explain that the are around the cut feels hard and sturdy as if it were stone while the actual cut feels hot and stings. They also say the body part that contains the cut is very heavy and that it is hard to lift. Those who are undergoing the effects of SCP 3864 say they can feel something cold, heavy, and thick move their their bloodstream. It seems that the area that is affected with the disease causes a lot of distress for the individual as well, subjects saying that the area feels as though it is being pulled into itself or as though there is a black hole within themselves at that spot causing much inwards pressure (If the subject has Cyclothymia this pressure would be located in the brain while those who suffer with tuberculosis would feel this in their lungs). They say that as the blood leaves their body that they feel lighter and that the pressure slowly fades away, some even saying that they feel as though they are floating.
It is also noted that blood drained from the subject will be thicker, heavier, and also darker in color than their regular blood. The blood will appear almost black but it is still of a red shade. The blood will also be 2 to 5 times heavier than regular blood as well. Results of weight vary depending on the disease that the person has. The bloody also appears to be a lot stickier than regular blood. It acts almost like a glue when it touches something else. It is hypothesized that this is because the blood is carrying the disease out of the body. The blade and handle are also explained to be cold to the touch. Heat sensitive sensor indicate that both the handle and the blade drop down to 2 degrees Fahrenheit or -16 degrees Celsius. This drop in temperature seems to also only happen while the dark blood is being drained from the body, temperature immediately returns to normal once regular blood starts to come out of the body.
Tests have shown that it is able to heal any disease that it is given. Such healing results include curing people who have: colds, total and color blindness, measles, type 1 and 2 diabetes, AIDS, ALS, various types of cancer in various stages, Asperger's, schizophrenia, Anorexia, Autism, those who are mute (if they have a tongue and vocal cords), infertility, depression, and people who are paraplegics.
Tests also show that the usage of SCP 3864 does not heal physical wounds or parasites within the subject such as: broken bones, bleeding, tapeworms, lice, or missing limbs. But it will heal wounds such as scars, scabs, and remove skin blemishes as well. During one test it is shown that SCP 3864 can heal memory loss diseases such as Alzheimer's but memories lost during that time do not come back to the subject who was infected with the disease. Tests have also shown that SCP 3864 cannot bring subjects back to life nor can it reanimate them, such as from a miscarriage.
SCP 3864 is not allowed to be used by SCP 049 or SCP 890. Tests have shown that SCP 3864 can cure a very select few anomalies properties under certain requirements. Testing with carriers of SCP 217 has proved positive if the carrier has been infected for less than an hour, no testing to figure out if saving a subject beyond this point in time has been allowed though it is believed that it will still cure the subject before changes have started to occur. Testing with SCP 008 seems to only work if the subject had just been bitten, estimated time of success is under 3 minutes no testing has been allowed after that point. It also doesn't seem to cure those who have changed due to SCP 008. It is hypothesized that since SCP 3864 can cure carriers of SCP 253 however no testing has happened.
As stated in the containment procedure all pieces of SCP 3864 that are used in a procedure need to be thoroughly cleaned and sterilized. So that no bodily fluids or remainders of the disease are left on any part of SCP 3864-1 or 2. If there happens to be anything left on SCP 3864-1 no anomalies effects will occur, no matter which on of SCP 3864-2 is used with it. If there happens to be any residue on SCP 3864-2 that particular subject will be ineffective of causing any anomalies effects; however, it is only that subject. If other subjects of SCP 3864-2 are clean they will still perform their usual anomalies effects.
SCP 3864 was recovered on █/█/██ from a hospital in ██████, ██████ in the United States. It was seemed to be discovered when a doctor of that facility posted about it on his social media sites, claiming this tool had saved his life. See interview log.
Interview Log: Interview with Dr.Shine by SCP Foundation Dr.Miller
Miller: Good evening Dr.Shine
Shine: Oh there is no need for that. We are both doctors, you can refer to me as Mr.Shine or ██████. Good evening to you as well.
Miller: For the purpose of this interview I shall just direct towards you as Mr.Shine. Saves a lot of editing time.
Shine: Understood. So why am I here exactly? I was told you needed to ask me a few questions?
Miller: Yes. It was noted that you have a certain tool, a scalpel, that you have that is very close to you. Is this true?
Shine: Yes, yes. I that is a very important item. It saved my life back when I was younger.
Miller: Can you explain in more detail please?
Shine: How much detail would suffice?
Miller: The whole story please. While also explaining how you discovered it had saved you.
Shine: Ah alright, well sit back. Feel free to take notes. (Shine chuckles quietly) Well back in my youth I was a surgeon. A pretty good one at that. I would save people’s lives all the time. It made me feel like I was a superhero. It was my job to make sure people never saw those Pearly Gates up there (Shine then points to the sky). I had no parents growing up so instead I was raised by my grandparents, such amazing folks they were. When I graduated from medical school my grandfather had given me a gift. It was a wooden box that had my name written on top of it. Doctor ██████ Shine, it made me real proud to- (Miller interrupts Shine)
Miller: I ask that if you are going to refer to yourself that you just do so as Shine.
Shine: Right, right, sorry about that. Well during my time as a surgeon it seemed that no matter how many lives I saved there was always gonna be another poor fellow who needed my help. It felt like I wasn’t making a difference. (Shine then scoffs at himself) I mean I know I did too the person I was operating on, but I mean overall. I thought that my work would show more in the world, I wanted to feel like I was making a real difference in the world not just one person’s momentary life.
Miller: If it is alright with you sir, may we get to the part where the scalpel comes into play?
Shine: Ya I suppose so, I will just try to summarize then. At my age now looking back at my life and myself I can definitely tell that I was depressed. I would have never went to a doctor or admitted it myself, I was too prideful and I doubted anything was wrong. Eventually that depression was too much for my wife. She kept on telling me that I kept putting it on her. And, and (Shine’s voice starts to tremble in sadness he also doesn’t look at Interviewer Miller) she couldn’t take it anymore. Putting all of my problems on her and yelling at her for not understanding them. I was bringing her down with me, but I was destroying her as I did it.
So one day I woke up to the sound of our front doors slamming shut, the sound shot out of my bed. I looked over to the other side of the bed to try and find my wife. Instead of her I found her side neatly made. The blanket was tucked in, the pillows were neatly laid, and there was a note. (Shine is clearly choked up at this point) I am sure you know what the note said, or at least you can assume. I don’t need to say it out loud.
Miller: That is alright. Just keep talking for the records about the other events then.
Shine: Sure thing. (He sniffles and wipes his eyes with his sleeve) I carry that note everywhere I go with me. (He pats his pocket) It’s right here. (He lets out a heavy breathe relaxing himself. Alright, well we had been separated for about 6 months. This is when I started to notice that I have back and stomach pain. It started to interfere with my work so I decided to go in to see if there was something wrong. After several visits and even more doctors it was determined that I had pancreatic cancer. It was in the third stage as well.
This news hit me hard and piled on top of my already stressing issues. My wife left me, my daughter never wanted to talk with me because I emotionally wounded mother, my work was getting sloppy, and now stage 3 cancer on top of all of that. It was too much for me to bare all at once.
That night I laid in bed with my eyes shut, but I wasn’t sleeping. I was trying to talk myself into doing something dastardly and full of sin. I sat up in bed and looked out of my window. The nighttime fog was so thick that I could hardly see the street lights. Eventually my mind went numb and I lost control of my body. I stood up and walked over to my desk. I was not in control of my body by my emotions were instead. It was like auto pilot. My mind was just along for the ride.
When I was standing over my desk I saw the wooden box with golden writing on it. I picked it up and smashed it on the ground. The box broke and the tools inside slid in each direction across the floor. I laid my back against the wall and started to weep, I slowly slid down the wall and when I hit the floor I put my head in my hands and I let the emotions take over. I screamed, wept, and slammed my fist in the wall behind me. Eventually my arms went limp and hit the ground. But instead of hard wood my hand felt something slim and cold to the touch. I pick it up and it is the holder of the scalpel. A little further away was one of the blades as well. I picked it up and stared at it for a long time. I could feel it staring back at me as well. I connected the two and played with it in my hand, slowly twirling it. My mind trying to talk itself into doing the movements. Slowly the hand that was twirling the scalpel moved closer to my other arm. I looked at it and before I realized it the tool was resting upon my wrist of my right arm.
I blanked out and when my eyes I noticed I had fallen over and was laying on my side. I saw the tool first, it was right in front of my eyes, appeared to be dipped in crimson. Then I lifted my eyes up a little higher and saw my arm. A clean slice all the way across, dark dark red slowly streaming out of it. It was strange, I noticed it was unusually dark for blood. I watched it as it pooled around my body. But then it stopped. Instead of the abyss colored crimson that was coming out of me it was regular red. At that moment I noticed that my body felt amazingly lighter as well. As if a car was lifted off of my back.
I noticed they my very soul changed. The darkness that dwelled within my mind was no longer there. All of the pain that resided in me was gone. I felt healthier than ever before. It was amazing. The feeling rushed through my veins moving through my body. I forgot that I was actually bleeding. I quickly wrapped up my arm and drove the hospital that I had worked at. After I was healed and released I had an appointment to check up on my cancer as well. The doctor did 3 different tests just to make sure but it had appeared that the cancer had totally vanished overnight. There was nothing wrong with my body. The doctor looked at me and said I was the healthiest a human person could be.
I took this as a sign that either God or my parents were watching over me and made sure I didn’t fail in this world. They helped me succeed. They showed me that I haven’t truly lived, that changed. It started to live again, it had been so many years since I had done so. It was an amazing feeling.
Hopefully one day I will find the strength to find my wife again. No matter if she remarried or not, I want to see her. Apologize for all of the things I had done during our time together. Show her that I have really changed. I don’t expect her to love me again, but I just want her to know that I still love her and that from the very essence of my being and soul that I am truly sorry for hurting her.
Miller: I am sure that you will find her one day Mr.Shine. Thank you for your time today. I am sure it wasn’t easy for you.
