SCP-4514
Item #: SCP-4514
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Thermal surveillance cameras are set up around SCP-4514s location. Two agents are to be deployed at any time to divert any members of the public away from the area.
At a minimum of once per month, the agents are to initiate and take part in Dandelion events. More frequent initiations of such events is permissible, and at the discretion of the individual agents.
Description: SCP-4514 is visually indistinguishable from a dog of the Welsh Corgi breed. It ambulates an area of approximately 1 square kilometer, located centrally in the Gwydir Forest in North Wales. SCP-4514 has never been observed to move outside of this area.
When a person encounters SCP-4514, they can initiate a Dandelion event by performing a particular set of actions. If the person speaks the phrase "Hey doggie!", SCP-4514 will momentarily stand still and look at the speaker. In this state, any person that then approaches within a 2 meter radius of SCP-4514 will begin to shrink in size. This shrinkage effect is inversely proportional to the persons distance from SCP-4514, and will continue until subjects reach their minimum height of approximately 10 centimeters.
When a subject reaches their minimum height, SCP-4514 will lower its snout to the ground in front the person. It will then vocalize the phrase "Climb on board!" in a voice resembling an older human male, and blink its right eye. When a person then climbs on to the snout, between the eyes, and on to the neck of SCP-4514, it will vocalize the words "Hold on tight". At this point, the shrunk person can complete the initiation of the Dandelion event by holding on to SCP-4514s fur.
SCP-4514 will subsequently begin to run around in the nearby forest, carrying the shrunk person on its back. A multitude of behaviors have been observed during these runs, including chasing after bugs and jumping into puddles. In the autumn, SCP-4514 is commonly observed jumping into piles of fallen leaves. In the winter, SCP-4514 has been seen biting after falling snow flakes, and jumping into and out of areas of deep snow.
After a varying amount of time SCP-4514 will return to the point at which the Dandelion event was initiated, where it will lie down on the ground. Once the person climbs off of SCP-4514, it will rise to its feet, and run off into the forest. At this point, the shrunk person will regain their original size.
Persons taking part in Dandelion events describe experiencing colors as being unusually vivid, and their emotional content as being unusually heightened. These effects persist for up to 48 hours after the completion of the event.
All attempts to capture SCP-4514 have failed, and the perpetrators of such attempted captures have subsequently been unable to initiate Dandelion events. In order to not jeopardize research into these events, the capture of SCP-4514 is no longer being pursued.
Site directors are permitted to assign field experience with SCP-4514 to agents that have shown particular excellence in their work for the Foundation.
