SCP-3708

Item #: SCP-3708

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-3708 are to be contained and neutralized within a suitable hard drive as soon as possible. A large USB drive (USB-55G "Raincloud") has been designed and engineered specifically for locating and containing SCP-3708 instances across all Foundation sites. Once SCP-3708 has been confidently cleansed from Foundation mainframe, mass-production of USB-55G has been authorized by O5 council to be passed through international servers in search of more SCP-3708 instances.

Instances of SCP-3708-B are to be taken down by Foundation agents placed within Google Inc, with special focus on changing popular search results and recommendations to guide most users of the website away from SCP-3708-B videos. In the unlikely event that SCP-3708-B is noticed by a substantial amount of viewers, TTF1-420C ("Donatello Fanclub") has been tasked with tracking down the IPs of as many viewers as possible so Foundation can locate and apply Grade-H amnestics to affected persons.

In the scenario of a 76-BROKENMASK event, all Technical Task Forces are to be deployed at the risk of an XZ-class Secrecy breach with special focus ██████ █████ █████████
███ ██████ ███ ██████████████████ ████ with possible relocation of all assets and renaming of 'SCP Foundation' considered only as a last resort.

Description: SCP-3708 is the name for a possibly anomalous computer program, currently available to download through ██████-██/███. When downloaded, SCP-3708 will periodically boot itself up if not manually booted up by a user, and begin recording the computer's monitor. During recording, a white box thumbnail is displayed semi-prominently at all times within the upper left-hand corner of the screen, with the bold words 'UNREGISTERED HYPERCAM 2'. All of the computer's basic applications will function as usual, with no currently observed changes to system performance while SCP-3708 is recording. Recording can be terminated through use of a keyboard shortcut detailed within SCP-3708's instructions menu or by manually selecting the program and terminating the screen capture session. SCP-3708 cannot be disabled or shut down through use of the Task Manager or by force-quit through keyboard shortcut, and will remain active until the recording session has been ended and the application is closed. Attempting to turn off the computer SCP-3708 is active on is only achievable via removing the source of electricity from the computer.

SCP-3708-B refers to any videos uploaded to popular video-streaming website YouTube.com2 depicting screens recorded using SCP-3708. Current estimated amount of SCP-3708-B instances number between 20,000-[REDACTED]. Upon finishing recording a user's screen, SCP-3708 will immediately upload its entire footage to YouTube.com under different channels, and all uploads will appear as having been uploaded to the website between 2007-2008, regardless of when the actual program was running. Titles of these videos range from IP addresses of the captured computer, strings of indecipherable characters, and, most commonly, tutorials on how to unlock certain achievements in games such as 'Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas', 'Club Penguin', 'Roblox', 'Counter-Strike' and, rarely, 'Runescape'.

How SCP-3708 manages to somehow bend time to upload screen footage between 2007-2008 is unknown. Several theories have been proposed, many implying SCP-3708 simply displays cognitohazardous signals within its footage that lead site code and users viewing to believe the video is dated 2007-2008. Several videos utilizing 'Unregistered Hypercam 2' display System UIs that weren't yet invented in 2008 and some feature UIs that don't match up to any currently-known computing software.

SCP-3708 seems to have been manufactured by the now purchased Hyperion Software, however, upon questioning, all staff of Oracle Hyperion claimed that they joined the company after the creation of the application. Furthermore, staff involved with Hyperion between 2007-2008 claimed that they had no real recollection of ever testing and updating SCP-3708 and that the asset wasn't bought by now-parent company Oracle software.
