Item Number: SCP - 5157
Object Designation: “Fastball”
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures
SCP - 5157 is to be contained in a high security anomalous objects locker at Site [Redacted]. No testing is to be done without clearance from at least one (1) Class 4 or higher security personnel. Combination on the lock for the locker is to change once per week, to minimize unpermitted use. SCP - 5157 is not to be aimed at any personnel, especially outside of testing. D-Class personnel are no longer allowed to be used as targets during testing. SCP - 5157 is not to be tossed or thrown in any capacity, as to avoid triggering its anomalous effects. When moving SCP - 5157, it is to be placed, not dropped.
Description
SCP - 5157 is an American standard baseball, with logos from the company [Redacted]. It’s weight and diameter are consistent with the average baseball. 5157’s anomalous effects are enacted when the object is thrown in any capacity. This includes dropping. When 5157 is thrown by a human in any capacity, it gains speed extremely fast, at an average increase of [Redacted] mph. ([Redacted] kph) When it makes contact with any solid object, it transfers all kinetic energy, typically resulting in a large explosive impact. The ball will always survive the explosion, and will drop straight to the ground. Tests to try and damage the ball have been requested, pending approval by O5.
SCP - 5157 was discovered by the foundation on [Redacted]-[Redacted]-[Redacted] during a baseball game between two teams in the league, known as Major League Baseball (MLB) between the [Redacted] and the [Redacted]. The fourth pitcher for [Redacted] broke the MLB pitching speed record by over 6,200 mph. The resulting impact caused 34 casualties and 63 injuries. Retired agent Dillon was at the game and contacted the foundation about the incident. The entire attendance of the facility had to be issued amnestics and placed elsewhere. The ball was found in a crater behind where home plate would normally be, on the charred ground left behind after the explosion. The ball was taken back to Site 19 originally, before being transferred to Site [Redacted].
Test Log 5157 - 1
Overseeing Reseacher: Dr. Rylie Bergman
Assistant Researcher: Dr. Lucas Miller
Test: One D-Class personnel was to throw SCP 5157 at another D-Class personnel with minimal effort. Researchers would study the effect.
Result: D-91990, Male, age 41, (Two counts of murder, one count of drunk and disorderly) picked up SCP - 5157 and threw it with minimal effort at D-31435, Male, Age 26, (Three counts drunk driving, one count vehicular manslaughter). The ball was measured at a speed of [Redacted]. D-31435 was never found, and the resulting explosion killed D-91990.
Conclusion: SCP - 5157 will be triggered even if it is not thrown at max speed. Further testing must be conducted on what triggers its effects.

Test: One American pitching machine, brand name [Redacted], is to throw SCP - 5157 towards one D-Class personnel, who will attempt to catch it.
Result: One American pitching machine, brand name [Redacted], was loaded with SCP - 5157. D-71562, Female, 24, (One count murder, one count rape), was equipped with a baseball mitt and told to try and catch the ball. The pitching machine threw SCP - 5157 as if it was a normal, non-anomalous baseball. D-71562 was able to successfully catch the ball with no ill effects. Subject was returned to her cell.
Conclusion: SCP - 5157 is triggered by humans throwing it. Two more tests are scheduled on [Redacted] and [Redacted], each using severed human arms.
Test Log 5157 - 3
Overseeing Researcher: Dr. Rylie Bergman
Assistant Researcher: Dr. Lucas Miller
Test: One American pitching machine, brand name [Redacted], is to have a severed arm attached to it, which will throw SCP - 5157. One D-Class personnel is to be given a baseball mitt and told to try and catch SCP - 5157.
Result: One American pitching machine, brand name [Redacted], was fitted with a severed human arm as its throwing mechanism. D-76321, Male, 57, (Two counts rape) was given a baseball mitt and told to try and catch SCP - 5157. The severed arm threw SCP - 5157 like it was a normal baseball, and D-76321, was able to successfully catch the item.
Conclusion: SCP - 5157 can only be triggered by living humans, thought this theory will be proven true or false during our next test on [Redacted]
Test Log 5157 - 4
Overseeing Researcher: Dr. Rylie Bergman
Assistant Researcher: Dr. Lucas Miller
Test: One D-Class Personnel will use a severed human arm to throw SCP - 5157 to another D-Class Personnel. The second D-Class will be given a baseball mitt and told to attempt to catch SCP - 5157.
Results: D-15263, Female, 48, (One count grand larceny, six counts arson, two counts murder) was given a severed human arm with SCP - 5157 in its hand. D-22232, Male, 60, (One count assault) was given a baseball mitt and informed that he had to attempt to catch SCP - 5157. D-15263 used the severed arm to throw the item, which triggered its anomalous effects, resulting in an explosion that killed D-22232 and severely wounded D-15263.
Conclusion: SCP - 5157 only has to be triggered by a human making the motion to throw the object, even if it is not their hand doing it.
Interview Log 5157 - 1 - Dr. Rylie Bergman
“For the love of god can we stop putting D-Class in these tests with 5157? I’m so goddamn sick of watching them blow up. It's disgusting.”
