Item Number #: SCP-5343
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5343-a and SCP-5343-b SCP-5343-d, SCP-5343-e, SCP-5343-f and SCP-5343-h are to be contained within a 24-24-5-meter Habitat Containment Area 5343. This habitat is designed to resemble the topography and vegetation of the North American region of Alberta during the late fall and winter seasons. Artificial snow and ice are to be routinely dispersed across the habitat following Alberta’s annual weather cycle. The temperature within the containment area is to be kept between -20 c (-4 F) and 5.56 c (42 F) in accordance with this cycle. Requests for adjustment of the temperature outside of these ranges for testing must be approved by Dr. Windrove.
SCP-5343 is to be fed 2000-2270 calories of monosaturated fat and read meat proteins every two days. If breading has been assumed to occur, SCP-5343 is to have all calories restricted and allowed to starve for 36 hours. If death has not occurred within 36 hours of SCP-5343’s last meal, it is to be physically terminated. Please consult Dr. Windrove concerning current termination procedures.
News and social media sites are to be closely monitored for references to SCP-5343 as there are still uncontained instances active in the ████████ and ███████ regions. A campaign to spread misinformation about SCP-5343 in the form of Native American Wendigo myths is currently ongoing.
Description: SCP-5343 measures approximately 1.0-1.4 meters in height and resembles organisms belonging to the genus Ateles Fusciceps (Black-headed spider monkey). SCP-5343 does however, lack a tail and fur which are primary characteristic of Ateles along with any sexual reproductive organs. While SCP-5343 appears emaciated, its high metabolic rate contributes to immense speed and agility while hunting, allowing SCP-5343 to run upwards of 20 mph and jump nearly twice its own height.
SCP-5343’s metabolic rate requires the ingestion of approximately 2000-2700 calories of monosaturated fats and red meat proteins every 36-48 hours to survive. SCP-5343’s preferred food source are animals and humans with a body fat percentage over 22%. SCP-5343's desire for this food type is such that it has bypassed easily available food sources in preference to live prey with this body fat percentage. Feeding tests with olive, coconut, avocado, and other plaint based oils, along with plant based proteins have proven unsuccessful in sustaining 5343. If deprived of food for an extended period, 5343 will consume plaint based calories, however, these food types do not provide 5343 with the same nutritional benefits and can only sustain 5343 for 1/3rd of the time of its normal activity level.
This caloric estimate is believed to be the threshold of survival for SCP-5343 as a continued caloric deficit will lead to death within 60-72 hours of its last full meal. Upon reaching the 30 hour mark, SCP-5343 will exhibit an extreme increase in activity as well as consumption of all living animals and humans regardless of body fat percentage. SCP-5343 will continue this type of activity until it has satisfied its caloric needs in one meal or death occurs.
Addendum: As of ██/██/████ only two instances of SCP-5343 (designated SCP-5343-a and SCP-5343-b) are to be kept with Habitat Containment Area 4239 at any point. Please see containment incident 5343.03.02.15 for more details. Age rotation of SCP-5343 is to be decided by Dr. Windrove every assumed breading cycle. Request for un-contained testing must be formally submitted to Dr. Windrove and the Council and will require two signatures from Alpha-9 person
