Front cover of SCP-XXXX
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX requires no special containment procedures when not in use. During test readings of SCP-XXXX-1, SCP-XXXX should be placed either on a surface in the middle of the room or on a turntable that allows full 360 degree rotation.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a 8.5"x11" cardcover notebook of one-hundred (100) lined pages and one (1) blank opening page. The black and red cover of SCP-XXXX is non-descript and without markings, though it does possess slight wear from prior usage.
On the opening page (not lined) is a message reading "The Great American Book of Profanity - by I. B. Sick", presumably the title of the book (although the author name is unknown, and presumed to be meant as a humerous pseudonym). All contents of SCP-XXXX, with the following exception, appear to be written in blue ball-point pen. Underneath the title in the bottom right corner of the page is an additional message written in black pencil, reading: "Suck this, pencil-necks!"
The full contents of SCP-XXX from pages 1 through 96 appear to be an exhaustive list of every swear word, curse, and insult known to have been spoken in the United States.
The book contains a total of [DATA EXPUNGED] profanities, catalogued alphabetically and written by hand. The text is written densely, with as many as four or five words stacked vertically on each line, and both sides of every page are used.
Even though SCP-XXX is titled "The Great American Book of Profanity", the profanities are not written entirely in English.
A full count in collusion with dr. Albright from the foundation's linguistics department revealed that the full amount of [DATA EXPUNGED] profanities are written in 75,6% English, 4,5% Spanish, 3,9% Italian, 2,1% German, 1,3% French, 0,8% Dutch, 4,4% Jiddisch, 1,6% Mandarin Chinese, 1,1% Korean, and 4,0% Russian. There are also found scattered words in languages such as Arabic, Hindi, Polish, and traditional alaskan Inuit among others, making up 0,006% of the full total. Despite the variety in languages, every word in the book is written using the English alphabet.
A small sample of profanities even include certain words otherwise unknown to the English language, seemingly invented to be added into the book. One example of these is the word [DATA EXPUNGED]. As of this moment, the foundation has not been able to reach a conclusion on the meaning or proper enunciation of the word, as neither dr. Albright nor dr. ███████ found any previous mention of [DATA EXPUNGED] anywhere else, in any known spoken or written form. Whether or not these words, numbering a comparatively insignificant total of fourteen (14) throughout SCP-XXX, were in fact invented by the book's author, is as of yet unknown.
Pages 97 and 98 of SCP-XXXX are blank. Page 99 is mostly blank, except for the words "The utmost insult" in the uppermost center of the page, written in the same blue ball-point pen as the rest of the contents. This note has however been determined to be in a different hand-writing than the rest of SCP-XXXX, and is presumed to have been written by a different person.
The following page bears no writing, only what will hereafter be referred to as SCP-XXXX-1.
SCP-XXXX-1 is a sort of symbol, marking or glyph drawn in black felt pen. The symbol consist of tangled, swirling lines crossing and intercrossing into a vaguely circular pattern. As confirmed by dr. Albright, SCP-XXXX-1 shares no definite similarities with any known alphabet and has no conclusive meaning.
Addendum XXXX-a: Procurement
Addendum XXXX-b: SCP-XXXX-1 Test Readings
Test reading 1:
Subject: Personnel D-███, █████ ███████
XXXX-2: 171 degrees clockwiseSubject immediately became extremely agitated from exposure to XXXX-1. Subject was rendered incapable of coherent speech and attempted to destroy SCP-XXXX by stabbing at it with a pen. Subject was restrained, and seemed to calm down after being removed from the room and provided with a glass of water. SCP-XXXX suffered no damage.
Test reading 1 follow-up:
Increase in security: Subjects required to empty pockets of effects before participating in further test readings of SCP-XXXX-1
