A piece of SCP-4488 in a containment area in ███████████.
Item #: SCP-4488
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Pieces of SCP-4488 must be contained in a stone box in a small room lit by a small light, any colour. Test subjects should enter the room with a skinny and long piece of wood. Subjects should then be told to lift the stone hatch of the SCP's box open with the stick. They should then report what state SCP-4488 is in, if it has changed or done anything to the inside of the box. When told, test subjects can carefully put the hatch back using the wooden stick and leave the containment room.
Description: SCP-4488 is yet to be fully discovered of where it came from. Pieces of the SCP were found scattered across a woodland in █████, Scotland. Scientists have thought that SCP-4488 came crashing down to earth centuries ago as a big rock, with no proper size. When it landed unknown if it did in the same forest but it supposedly split into dozens of pieces. Geologists are not sure if all pieces of the SCP have been found, but there had been many losses when recovering them over time.
The effects of SCP-4488 are deadly. If anything organic or inorganic touches the SCP, it will immediately begins to turn to stone, almost like SCP-409 does. There is no proper cure yet, except SCP-500 has been known to rapidly slow down the transformation. There are a couple of stages to this:
1. The victim will feel fatigued and their body mass would of increased a couple of stones.
2. The victim's whole body will start to change from organs, flesh, skin into a contagious stone or SCP-4488-1, just like the SCP.
3. Nearing the end of the transformation, the victim will cough or vomit up more contagious stone, creating more pieces of SCP-4488.
4. Once the victim has fully turned to stone, they would be already dead as the organs were converted too.
Addendum 01: Oak and Birch wood have shown not to of been affected by SCP-4488.
Addendum 02: If an instance of SCP-4488-1 is to touch anything organic or inorganic, with the victim being alive or stone dead, the effects will carry over and convert it to stone.
Interviewed: D-9977 (SCP-4488-1)
Interviewer: Dr. ████
Foreword: D-9977 had touched the stone, and was already turning into stone.
<Begin Log>
Dr. ████: What do you feel like?
D-9977: (groaning) I feel heavy and very ill.
Dr. ████: How painful is it?
D-9977: (standing up; facing Dr. ████) Very! What have you done to me?!
Dr. ████: Calm down.
D-9977: (cranking the chamber door open; letting it turn into SCP-4488-1) Come here you! You'll see what it feels like!
Dr: ████: (In shock; pointing at guard) Shoot him!
<End Log>
Subject D-9977 (SCP-4488-1) was shot just after he threw Dr. ████ to the ground. He later turned to stone as well. He had to be left where he was when it happened, like the other instances of SCP-4488-1 as there was no current way for them to be transported to be disposed of.
