Special Containment Procedures
Provisional Research and Containment Site-371 was commissioned on 08/05/17 to safely manage the current volume of SCP-XXXX instances. One sample of each SCP-XXXX variant will be contained at Site-371 for research and observation. All other instances will be identified, seized, and neutralized by Joint Task Force Sigma-98 ("Clout Chasers") and Foundation Webcrawler 98 ("Galatea"). Type-specific containment procedures, safety protocols, and neutralization procedures follow.
Sample: One page (size A4)
Containment: Standard item locker, unmarked
Lab: Site-371 Blankroom 1
Safety Protocols: No unauthorized writing implements may enter Blankroom 1. Writing implements removed from Blankroom 1 must be destroyed.
Neutralization: Seizure and chemical recycling at Site-371. Recycled materials may be returned to circulation after a 7-day quarantine.
Contact tracing is mandatory for all civilians found in possession of SCP-XXXX. Suspected BUNY* employees and distributors of SCP-XXXX, as well as individuals whose knowledge of either surpasses current Foundation research, are designated PoI-XXXX. PoI-XXXX will be detained, interviewed, administered Class A amnestics, and released under covert Foundation surveillance.
Update 8/07/17: In light of Incident XXXX-01, no instance of SCP-XXXX is to be destroyed by incineration under any circumstances. Davis, CA, will be sanitized and reintroduced to the Sacramento area between 08/15/17 and 09/13/17 according to Kroatoan Protocol.
Update 08/09/17: Tests involving contact information or matrix barcodes produced by an SCP-XXXX instance require 4/XXXX clearance or approval.
Description
SCP-XXXX is an infectious agent which constitutes marketing materials related to direct sales company BUNY* Cosmetics. Direct contact between an SCP-XXXX reservoir and a body of viable host information1 "recombines" host information to produce BUNY* marketing copy. Three variants of SCP-XXXX—Type A, Type B, and Type C—are known to exist, affecting paper goods, textiles, and computer data storage respectively.
Bodies of information recombined by SCP-XXXX consistently retain their visual structure as well as numerous abstract qualities, including tone, narrative coherence (in the case of documents containing narrative works), and stylistic conventions. In all cases where identical bodies of information were infected by the same SCP-XXXX reservoir, the resulting copy differed.
Nonviable bodies of information (such as abstract graphic marks rendered with low contrast, nonsense text, text rendered unreadable by typographical or syntactical errors, text composed in extinct languages, and computer code with a high number of errors) exhibit reservoir duplication at the point of contact like other hosts, but SCP-XXXX will not spread beyond its initial contact with nonviable information.
