Special Containment Procedures: All residents of the town of [REDACTED] are to be transferred to [REDACTED] via Foundation-approved transporters. Agents who have dealt with the local residents, who have at least four years experience of interpersonal interactions with the [REDACTED], are to be briefed on SCP-XXXX.
With the exception of interrogation following SCP-XXXX insertion, personnel are not to begin to discuss the object's anomalous properties until those properties are no longer affecting or evidenced during the period when someone attacked by SCP-XXXX is receiving treatment.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a species of a landliving scavengers, resembling that of a carnivourus cephalopods, with a thick shell covering all of it's body with it's tentacles being an exception, plaguing the town of [REDACTED], which have since then been evacuated. In its entirety, the organisms body consists of three layers: a solid shell, a thick mucus layer and a central nervous system composed of 7,072 segments.
Instances of SCP-XXXX has an average lifespan of 23-27 years. During the adult stage, SCP-XXXX-A feeds on humans, consuming up to ten(10) human cadavers per month. At eight(8) years of age, it grows to around 2 meters from tip to tentacles, and being 0,5 meters wide.
When it eats it sticks to the surface of the cadaver and releases a corrosive substance(strong enough to break down bones, metal, stone, etc) so the cadavers liquifies. It will then feed on the liquid. The process takes up to five(5) minutes.
It is currently unknown how or if they mate, but they have been recorded laying eggs. They lay large green pods, filled with a random amounts of eggs. They paste them to trees, houses and carcasses. The pods are covered in a corrosive substance, identical to the substance SCP-XXXX uses to eat.
The substance liquifies everything that comes in contact with the pod, seemingly to protect the eggs. After six(6) hours the eggs hatch and the pods melt. Out crawls a large amount of SCP-XXXX. They are about 0,2 meters from tip to tentacles, while they are 0,125 m wide. They are very aggresive, usually attempting to attack the remains of the pod and have on rare occasions attempted to kill eachother.
SCP-XXXX instrances have an advanced form of regeneration. It's regenerative capacity is so great, that it can seemingly survive injury which would kill most cephalopods. Additionally, it has been shown that SCP-XXXX is resistant to all forms of debilitating effects that would be fatal to an average human, but it can still be killed by destroying parts of it's nervous system.
A majority of all documented injuries has displayed that instances of SCP-XXXX-A only regenerates fatal damage, as evidenced by it not regenerating from wounds, severed tentacles and burns. It is nearly impossible to contain, since it will attack all sentient organisms coming within ten(10) meters of it. This usually leads to humans terminating it.
It attacks by leaping towards the organism and straps onto the it's face. It will then release the corrosive substance at an alarming rate before leaping away (it will only eat creature if no other being is present). Immediate medical treatment can prevent the creature from expiring. If someone talks about the symptoms of SCP-XXXX-A's acid within twenty(20) meters of the subject, before it has been properly treated, they will expire immediately by unknown means.
Incident 1975/09/25: SCP-XXXX have been recorded to rest once a week. One instance of SCP-XXXX was captured and contained on site ██ while it was sleeping, but escaped containment by digesting it's cell. There where ██ casualties before the SCP-XXXX instance was terminated. No more attempts to contain SCP-XXXX-A has been made.
Addendum-01 17/02/2002: An instance of SCP-XXXX has been spoted [REDACTED] km from the town of [REDACTED]. It was crawling along a road and had killed ██ hitchhikers and █ drivers. Someone had called the police and gave the information of an octopus eating people. The foundation got to the area and after searching for 2 hours and 21 minutes the instance was located and terminated.
Addendum-02 04/07/2012: An SCP-XXXX instance was found at Site ██. It breached SCP-███ out of containment and terminated ██ personnel. SCP-███ was succesfully contained after it had terminated █ personnel. The SCP-XXXX instance had escaped the site and it's location is still unknown.
Addendum-02 Update 20/12/1015: The instance was found in the ventilation system of Site ██. It was terminated immediately.
