Item #: SCP-XXXX (one of the ones that aren't taken, because god knows how new ones get made without any oversight)
Object Class: Safe Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: [Paragraphs explaining the procedures]
SCP-XXXX is to be placed on a table within a standard containment cell, on Site-55 (cite note about Site's seismic, weather and reality stability). The entrance to the containment room is to be guarded when testing takes place, with the room monitored to ensure that SCP-XXXX is not taken out of the containment cell. This is in addition to standard surveillance operations during the 'refractory' period, including location tagging and anomalous tracker marking. <-redact this?
SCP-XXXX shall be operated by a different D-Class personnel every 5 days. While testing is underway, the door to the cell will be shut, the cell's ventilation sealed, and active soundproofing applied.
The testing cycle of SCP-XXXX is to not be halted. If the device is operated within 5 days of the last test, further procedures are to be implemented depending on the duration of testing absence:
- If SCP-XXXX has not been operated within 1-3 additional days past the 5-day period, SCP-XXXX will be placed in a deep-storage containment cell for the next test, whereupon completion will be moved back to a standard containment cell.
- If SCP-XXXX has not been operated within 4-7 additional days past the 5-day period, SCP-XXXX will be placed in Site-55's 'Rex'-Class stability bunker for the next test, whereupon completion and clean-up will be moved back to a standard containment cell.
- If SCP-XXXX has not been operated within 7+ additional days past the 5-day period, REDACTED
- It's very deep, perhaps the Kola Borehole using that image on WIkiped
- Avoid mining or settlements nearby??
- Perhaps not too deep
- OR have it be in a deep facility, on seismically dead areas, tested constantly so that bad things do not happen in the future.
Description: [Paragraphs explaining the description]
- It's a button, maybe a wonderment button?
- It's a prank button with anomalous effects (sprays fire, induces a sneeze, etc.)
- Testing stopped because somehow it is known (maybe due to the text on the button indicating what will happen next) that the next time it's pressed, it will release a great deal of energy
- Button induces a slight curiosity into pressing OBSERVING the button. People pressing the button, however, is their own choice, and due to the human condition, is made readily.
- Radius of influence, and energy output, is slowly increasing in an attempt to move to the next 'prank'.
- You have to test it every 5 days, or it will start to get stronger…
- Keep in mind that you can still have compulsion if you have a way of getting rid of that compulsion, or the effect of the compulsion is not the same every time (i.e. completely removing choice.) check this out: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-1526851/critiquing-compulsion-addiction-effects
- Compulsion effect to observe is not permanent, but emotion of curiosity remains in memory longer than the feeling of requirement to observe the button, thus leading people to want to return to such a desolate place and dig deeper. Compulsion to observe can 'block out' fear of what may happen if it is pressed.
Addendum: [Optional additional paragraphs]
- Discovery
- Was sent to a novelty store through mail asking for refund via cash mail-in, stating that the product is defective. Testing of button leads to glass shattering in store, prompting Foundation agents to investigate. Class A amnesiatics administered and button placed within site under low guard, for the purposes of testing.
- Testing logs
- Starts simple enough, but ends with researcher who is afraid of loud noises pressing the button when it says 'F Bomb' on it with an automated system. Nothing happens….
- Reasons for placement in lower locations, and reasoning for why it can't just be incinerated/shot into space (perhaps it tries to come back, or doing so will set it off)
- The button was transferred quietly after automated testing seemed to placate researchers, and was shipped off to a storage place. This is how it is known that the radius zone increased, since a D-Class was drawn to the area and pressed it, leading to an explosion and subsequent containment breach. The button was not destroyed and remained unharmed - what's the point of a novelty button if it breaks when it's used?
