Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be secured in a locker except for testing purposes. All personnel and D-Class subjects who interact with SCP-XXXX must be screened beforehand for any soil on the person or on clothing. Any attempt to intentionally introduce soil to SCP-XXXX will result in immediate admonishment and appropriate sanctions.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an Ames brand shovel from the year 1834. Its handle and blade are typical for the time period and exhibit the appropriate amount of wear for the age. So far, the blade and handle have proven resilient to attempts to obtain samples. Its other anomalous properties do not manifest until a subject attempts to bring SCP-XXXX in contact with soil of any kind.
Upon attempting to introduce soil to the blade of SCP-XXXX, it will immediately propel itself at high speeds to avoid contact with the soil. Oftentimes, this will lead to SCP-XXXX embedding itself in the walls of the testing facilities. Observations of SCP-XXXX as it accelerates has shown that it moves at a high enough speed to force air to shift around it and pushing away soil that would contact SCP-XXXX. If there lacks a surface without dirt for SCP-XXXX to move to, it will look to place itself in an object that will reduce its chance of contact with dirt. This generally will lead to it disemboweling livestock and humans so as to have a cavity to reside in. All subjects involved invariably perished.
SCP-XXXX was discovered in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1933. During the Dust Bowl in the Midwestern United States, reports were issued to the police about a flying object in the Dust Storms causing damage to property and disemboweling the local townsfolk. Law enforcement was called in when, after a storm had subsided, a local man had been found eviscerated with SCP-XXXX residing in the leftover space. Foundation personnel were alerted to the incident and moved to intercept it. However, the approaching storm forced retrieval to be delayed. When the task force arrived, they discovered the bodies of many of the towns folk with large lacerations and signs of high velocity impacts. SCP-XXXX was found in a cow that had taken shelter in a house to avoid the storm. It was quickly removed from the vicinity and placed into Foundation storage.
