High-risk SCP-5495 instance.
Special Containment Procedures: A 5 6.5 7.25 km diameter "safe zone" is to be created around a point southeast of Site-394 to ensure the effects of SCP-5495 are unable to penetrate into the site grounds or surrounding area. SCP-5495 instances that attempt to enter the safe zone are to be neutralised using standard MTF Epsilon-63 ("Torch Reporters") Heavy Water Cannons. Should these prove ineffective in neutralising SCP-5495 instances, or if a large enough quantity of SCP-5495 entities exist within the Safe Perimeter 5495-KOHANGA, Procedure 5495-SIEVERT is to be initiated. A copy of the Bikini Isles with modified geography, history and no anomalous properties is to be maintained by the combined efforts of the United States Government, Government of the Marshall Islands and Foundation Operatives. This copy is to exist at least 250 km in distance from the true Bikini Isles. All references to this copy are to refer to it as the "Bikini Atoll," an island contaminated by nuclear radiation to repeated nuclear explosive testing. Topological modifications to the geometry in the Pacific Ocean are to be made such that unauthorised personnel including the general public and those without Level 4/5495 clearance believe that no such location as the "Bikini Isles" exists, with the "Bikini Atoll" existing in its place on Earth.
Aside from Safe Perimeter 5495-KOHANGA, SCP-5495 instances are permitted to occupy any space within the geography of the island as well as a maximum displacement of 50 m from the outer coasts of Bikini Isles landmasses (although this is not expected due to SCP-5495's aversion to water and other largely aqueous liquids). SCP-5495 instances are not to be allowed to leave this exclusion zone for any reason except for the purposes of Procedure 5495-ROENTGEN. No significantly radioactive materials whether natural or manmade are to be stored on the island except in secure lockers located in Lead-Concrete Radiological Isolation Chambers 1, 2, 3 and 4 on floor B1 of Site-394. The storage capacity of any one chamber is not to exceed 60% to prevent [REDACTED, SEE ADDENDUM 5495-KURCHATOV] reasonable volume of free-space must be available at all times.
Description: SCP-5495 is a series of anomalous physical, radiological, thermal and meteorological phenomena present on the Bikini Isles, at [REDACTED] Foundation-classified location in the South Pacific Ocean. Variations in these phenomena can be observed in great magnitudes, especially in properties such as size, radiological intensity, threat level, sentience, reaction to Foundation operations and various physical stimuli. A number of commonalities, can be observed however. Thusfar, of the ███ SCP-5495 instances documented by the Foundation, the following traits have been deemed uniform of all instances.
- All SCP-5495 instances appear to be composed of matter or self-contained physical reactions with high levels of thermal energy and/or radioactivity with respect to the surrounding environment.
- All SCP-5495 instances are capable of some form of locomotion at varying speeds and abilities regardless of outward appearance.
- All SCP-5495 instances can be neutralised either entirely or temporarily with a high enough volumetric flow of heavy water (liquid deuterium oxide).
- All SCP-5495 instances are capable of increasing properties such as their mass, maximum speed, strength, structural integrity, temperature and radioactivity by "feeding" on radioactive substances. This process varies depending on the instance.
- All SCP-5495 instances will naturally seek out radioactive substances should they be present within a radius no greater than █ ± 1 km.
- All SCP-5495 instances will assume hostile behaviour towards any objects, animals, geography or persons that attempt to impede SCP-5495's "feeding" ritual or its attempt to locate radioactive substances.

It is unknown exactly how SCP-5495 instances come into existence, however extensive monitoring of the Bikini Isles has shown intermittent wildfires, chemical manifestations, [DATA EXPUNGED] and other anomalous phenomena emanating from ponds (henceforth referred to as SCP-5495-1) containing extreme levels of Strontium-90, Caesium-137, Barium-140 and isotopes of an unknown element with atomic number 14█. Samples of lakewater containing these elements have been sent to Off-Site Foundation Nuclear Physicists for analysis. There are currently 3 7 known SCP-5495-1 instances upon the Bikini Isles, all located on the easternmost major island of Ahi Bikini. Current estimations predict that the known SCP-5495-1 locations account for the emergence of 7█% of SCP-5495 instances per annum on average. (μ = ██, σ2 = █)
Discovery: SCP-5495-1 bodies were initially discovered during routine surveying of the Bikini Isles during Operation Hardtack I nuclear tests, in preparation for the Hardtack I Piñon nuclear test by the United States Joint Task Force 7, scheduled for August ██, 1958. Reports of "radioactive puddles" far exceeding expected radioactivity levels due to repeated nuclear test fallout were quickly intercepted by undercover Foundation agents operating within the nuclear test programme, leading to the cancellation of the nuclear test programme by the United States Federal Government at the request of the Foundation, which subsequently assumed control over operations in the Bikini Isles. Disinformation campaigns were ran worldwide to the general public and unauthorised U.S. government personnel - the reason for cancellation in this disinformation campaign being the 1958 nuclear test moratorium, a prelude to the 1963 Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.
Following Foundation intervention in Bikini, Temporary Operations Facility-6 was opened to study anomalous bodies of water and their chemical, physical, radiological and hydrodynamic properties. This continued for █ years after 1958 until 196█ when an SCP-5495 instance was produced from SCP-5495-1/█, leading to the deaths of ██ personnel ██ on-site researchers and ██ MTF ε-63 agents. This, combined with the various unknown and esoteric properties of SCP-5495-1 aqueous solution led to the phenomena gaining SCP classification.

SCP-5495 instance γ-1: Specimen similar in appearance to a deceased hand in the bloat stage of biological decomposition. Specimen is capable of locomoting by using its appendages to grasp the surface it is present on and pull itself forward. Specimen leaves a high-viscosity fluid from its base during locomotion, similar in mechanical properties to the blood of a sufferer of hyperviscosity syndrome, likely due to the abnormally large presence of white blood cells in the fluid. All biological substances within the fluid have proven to be genetically unidentifiable. In addition to white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets, meningococcus bacteria, traces of zirconium dioxide and traces of an extremely radioactive unknown element with atomic number 13█ were also detected in varying quantities within the fluid.
