Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept upon SCP-XXXX-1 at all times, except for testing purposes. SCP-XXXX-1, with SCP-XXXX upon it, is to be kept on a stone pedestal in the centre of a standard containment cell, with at least three independently networked cameras monitoring the object. Two armed security guards are to be observing each camera feed at all times, and one dedicated task force is to be kept on-site at all times and equipped with a supply of sedation equipment in the case of an SCP-XXXX-2 event. SCP-XXXX is not to be directly observed except for testing purposes. SCP-XXXX and all associated objects are to be contained at Site-██ at all times.

SCP-XXXX-2 instances are to be stored in reinforced humanoid containment cells. All cells containing instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are to be outfitted with motion detection equipment, three independently networked microphones and three independently networked cameras, observing each instance at all times. Each SCP-XXXX-2 observation room is to contain no fewer than two armed security guards. All observation rooms must contain a method of immediately alerting the dedicated task force in the case of an SCP-XXXX-2 containment breach, upon which they will perform Protocol XXXX-Rell.

As of ██/██/████, no containment cell is to contain more than one instance of SCP-XXXX-2 at any one time. See Incident Report XXXX-4 for details.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a 500 page leather-bound book with a bookmarking ribbon sewn to the bottom of its spine. While SCP-XXXX in its inactive state, the first page contains a paragraph of illegible text below a large black image and a large-print illegible title. The other 499 pages are blank while SCP-XXXX is inactive. The front cover contains a title, “Worlds of Wonder”, as well as an author’s name, which is illegible while SCP-XXXX is in its inactive state. SCP-XXXX has proven immune to most methods of destruction.

SCP-XXXX-1 refers to the wooden lectern upon which SCP-XXXX rests while inactive. Aside from its ability to keep SCP-XXXX from activating, SCP-XXXX-1 is a non-anomalous book lectern, made entirely from old walnut wood.

While inactive, SCP-XXXX will attempt to draw personnel within a 10-metre radius towards it via a telepathic hallucination, usually auditory in nature, that ignores obstacles between itself and the subject. This effect has only been observed to affect human subjects. Hallucinations will continue untill the subject directly observes SCP-XXXX. Upon observing SCP-XXXX, subjects will be compelled by a voice, produced by SCP-XXXX, to remove it from SCP-XXXX-1 and read it. Blind subjects will be unable to directly observe SCP-XXXX, and thus are immune to its effects past this stage. The voice produced by SCP-XXXX varies between subjects. Upon being removed from SCP-XXXX-1 by a human subject, SCP-XXXX will activate.

Upon activating, the author’s name visible on SCP-XXXX’s cover will become legible, and will display the name of the subject (“the activator”), however it usually opts to use a colloquialism or nickname that the subject is commonly referred to, if such a term exists. SCP-XXXX will also stop alluring nearby humans towards it. 92% of subjects have reported feelings of curiosity upon opening SCP-XXXX. This feeling is thought to be stimulated by SCP-XXXX.

Upon opening SCP-XXXX while it is active, the text and image will become recognizable. The title will become the name of the activator’s “personal world”, as it is worded in the description, which is contained in a pocket dimension accessible only through SCP-XXXX. The rest of SCP-XXXX’s pages will fill with descriptions of a foreign world, which is created via SCP-XXXX stimulating the activator’s imagination and causing them to imagine a fantasy world, which it then observes via telepathy. It is unknown if SCP-XXXX is sentient. 84% of activators create a world that is inhabited. The image will become a view of a portion of the dimension. Observation of this image for over 30 seconds will cause SCP-XXXX to secrete a thick black smoke, which will envelop the subject for 10 seconds before dissipating completely. When SCP-XXXX's smoke dissipates, the activator will no longer be visible. At this point, SCP-XXXX will become partially inactive in that it will not create a different world for 48 hours. During this period, others may enter by observing the picture on SCP-XXXX’s opening page for 30 seconds and allowing its smoke to envelop them.

According to reports, the world created will always contain a stone platform, upon which a second instance of SCP-XXXX-1 stands upon a stone pillar. Upon this lectern is a second book. Opening the book will cause a similar smoke to envelop the opener and return them to SCP-XXXX. Unlike SCP-XXXX, the smoke appears immediately after the book is opened; observation of the picture on the opening page is not required. Time appears to pass identically to our world inside SCP-XXXX's dimension. “Personal worlds” are usually tailored to a world the subject would enjoy spending an extended amount of time in, most of which involve a "quest" or other time-consuming activity, but in the case of subjects with poor mental health, some “personal worlds” have been unfavourable, and in some cases directly dangerous to the subject’s physical or mental health.

After 48 hours, SCP-XXXX will close violently, and its text will become illegible. This marks two events: the deactivation of SCP-XXXX, and the point at which all humans inside SCP-XXXX become instances of SCP-XXXX-2. SCP-XXXX will resume its alluring effect at this point.

SCP-XXXX-2 is the designation given to all humans that have been inside SCP-XXXX’s pocket dimension while the object is inactive. Upon becoming instances of SCP-XXXX-2, subjects lose all higher brain function, but continue to attempt to vocalise, unable to form coherent vocalisations. On occasion, vocalisations may include [REDACTED]. Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 will be present in a “personal world” once SCP-XXXX activates, and will attempt to reach the return book. Should an instance of SCP-XXXX-2 reach the book and return to our dimension, Protocol XXXX-Ballas is to be carried out immediately. SCP-XXXX-2 instances do not appear to require any sustenance, and can be stored in any space that can hold them. SCP-XXXX-2 instances become violent when over 20 metres away from SCP-XXXX, and must be restrained when outside a conainment cell.

Whenever an instance of SCP-XXXX-2 is within 20 metres of another human in our world, it will attempt to force them inside SCP-XXXX’s effective radius. If SCP-XXXX is active or partially active, it will attempt to force them to observe the image on its opening page for 30 seconds and follow them into SCP-XXXX's dimension. Once inside, the instance will restrain its victim and prevent them from leaving, causing them to become an instance of SCP-XXXX-2.

Addendum XXXX-1: Acquisition
SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 were located in a local library in ████████, United Kingdom, where multiple reports of missing persons were reported to the local police force in a short timespan. Following a brief investigation, the objects were identified as anomalous on ██/██/████ and brought into Foundation possession after a purchase by Dr. Forenserth, who then began research into SCP-XXXX. During retrieval, two researchers were lost to SCP-XXXX due to a lack of understanding as to its effects, followed by successful retrieval by a blind researcher.

Addendum XXXX-2: Protocol XXXX-Ballas
Upon notifying the dedicated task force of the appearance of an SCP-XXXX-2 instance in our dimension, all research personnel are to engage the reinforced locks on the doors to their observation rooms. One researcher must then notify Site-██ administration of an SCP-XXXX-2 potential breach, and await the “All Clear” from Site-██ administration.

The on-site dedicated task force is to move into SCP-XXXX’s secure testing area and train weapons on the instance. One member of the task force is to attempt to sedate the instance 3 times. If successful, the instance is to be moved to the SCP-XXXX-2 containment area and held in an empty cell. If unsuccessful, the task force may use lethal force to neutralise the instance.

Addendum XXXX-3: Protocol XXXX-Rell
Upon notifying the dedicated task force of an SCP-XXXX-2 containment breach, all research personnel are to engage the reinforced locks on the doors to their observation rooms. One researcher from each observation area is to contact Site-██ administration and notify them of an SCP-XXXX-2 containment breach.

If the breach consists of only one SCP-XXXX-2 instance, Site-██ administration may only enforce a lockdown on the SCP-XXXX-2 containment area of Site-██, and SCP-XXXX's on-site dedicated task force is to sedate and re-contain the instance in accordance with Protocol XXXX-Ballas.

If the breach consists of multiple SCP-XXXX-2 instances, Site-██ administration is to enforce a full lockdown of Site-██. The on-site dedicated task force is to move to the location of the breach as quickly as possible. Should the two instances be separate, they are to be sedated and re-contained in accordance with Protocol XXXX-Ballas. If the two instances are together and have begun co-operating, lethal force is authorised, and the two instances are to be neutralised immediately.

Incident Report XXXX-4
At 06██ hours, ██/██/████, two instances of SCP-XXXX-2 breached containment and Protocol XXXX-Ballas was initiated by Dr. Forenserth, who was leading research into SCP-XXXX at the time. Upon locating the two instances, SCP-XXXX's on-site dedicated task force attempted to sedate them. The two immediately leapt at eachother and began to secrete [DATA EXPUNGED], which caused their bodies to [DATA EXPUNGED] and their nervous systems to fuse. After three failed sedation attempts by task force operative five, the two instances, now one entity, charged at the operative and [DATA EXPUNGED], leaving a pile of internal organs and torn flesh after two minutes. The entity was neutralised after 45 seconds of continuous fire from the remainder of the task force. After this incident, Dr. Forenserth revised protocol for SCP-XXXX-2 containment breaches and requested transfer to a different project. This request was approved on ██/██/████ and Dr. Forenserth now leads research into [REDACTED].
