Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: A mandatory safe zone of 41 meters has been set up around SCP-XXXX’s perimeter. All security personnel and staff assigned to SCP-XXXX are to remain outside of this zone. If someone is further in than this requirement, all staff must evacuate to a secondary safe perimeter of 59 meters from SCP-XXXX for the next 24 hours.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a 1079 acre private Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) reserve in XXXXXX, California, consisting of a two genetically identical Giant Sequoia trees titled “Mother And Father” that spread over the entire reserve. The trees interlapse by root system, forming seemingly individual trees. Each “tree” of SCP-XXXX has a charred hole somewhere on their exterior. The holes vary in size, but have never been seen to be smaller than 55 centimeters. These holes do not seem to have any direct effect on the trees health, but can cause instability if significant damage is made close to the hole.
SCP-XXXX-1 are floating bioluminescent apparitions resembling decapitated heads varying in age, size, and sex. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 have empty eye sockets and an abnormally large jaw, they do not appear to be sentient. When an individual [henceforth referred to as SCP-XXXX-2] passes the safe distance of 41 meters, instances of SCP-XXXX-1 will form in the holes of SCP-XXXX and advance on the SCP-XXXX-2. No more than one SCP-XXXX-1 has been seen to form per tree and the SCP-XXXX-1 instances are always the size of the hole they form in.
SCP-XXXX-1 instances will retreat if all SCP-XXXX-2’s are back behind the determined safe zone, and once the instances of SCP-XXXX-1 make it back to their original location, will become invisible. SCP-XXXX-1 instances have never been seen to go over a speed of 5.0 km/h and will stay the same speed when retreating from the pursuit of an SCP-XXXX-2. SCP-XXXX-1 instances emit a low moan that will get louder as it approaches an SCP-XXXX-2. Eventually, once around 10 meters away from an SCP-XXXX-2, the moan will have become louder than humans are capable of hearing.
Once within this distance, the SCP-XXXX-2’s will begin to experience multiple effects usually in this order: Migraines, vomiting, vomiting blood, bloody ears, bloody noses, bloody eyes, hallucinations, convulsions, and death. It usually takes around 1 minute to go through all of these effects. This time frame can be shorter if more SCP-XXXX-1 instances are within this range.
SCP-XXXX was contained in XX/XX/10, when 72 missing person reports of people who worked as caretakers for the forest were investigated by the foundation. Resulting in isolation and study of the forest after discovery of SCP-XXXX-1. Origin of the forests anomalous activity is believed to have occurred due to an incident a month prior to the first missing person report. When multiple teenagers employed by the owners of the reserve accidentally destroyed an unmarked graveyard located in the east part of the forest by digging up the graves mistaken for “natural piles of animal bones” to make water flow for the trees. Following this, two teenagers involved in the incident were reported missing a week after they went to try and repair the damage they caused.
Shortly after containment of the forest, mobile Task Force Beta-7 ("Maz Hatters") was assembled for the recovery of remains from the unmarked graves. [See Field Logs SCP-XXXX-A1] Three mummified bodies were recovered during the expedition into SCP-XXXX. It was concluded that the forest was the source of SCP-XXXX-1, not the bodies. Even with the bodies removed, instances of SCP-XXXX-1 were still present in the forest. During the expedition into SCP-XXXX, a large illuminated hole was discovered inside a tree east of the unmarked graves resulting in a secondary expedition. [See Field Logs SCP-XXXX-A2]
Field Logs:
[MTF Beta seven consisted of 36 units in total. Six units nicknamed Marco, Polar, Griff, Ice, Cole, and Commanding Officer Baker, were assembled for recovery of bodies from the graveyard location. Each had been given a Colt M1911 and 12 body bags during mission briefing. The expedition went as follows: All security personnel entered past the safezone and were ordered to “double time” by Officer Baker. A consistent flow of SCP-XXXX-1 instances began to emerge from the forest, but were eliminated without incident. Around 102 meters into the forest, (40 meters away from designation) squad members Griff and Ice complained of low ammunition.
Once the squad arrived at the graveyard, it was noted by squad member Cole that SCP-XXXX-1 had started to come in multiple directions, and were increasing in number. Following this, an unnoticed instance of SCP-XXXX-1 managed to get in a 2 meter vicinity of squad member Ice due to lack of attentiveness while attempting to “stuff” one of the mummified human corpses inside of a body bag. Which resulted in near full cycle of SCP-XXXX-1’s effects in as few as 8 seconds.
At first, it was assumed Ice was deceased. But after making the comment: “fucking help me up you pricks!” he was reported to be in critical condition. Because of this incident, MTF squad Beta-7 was told to initiate an early evacuation of SCP-XXXX. Around 104 meters back towards the safezone, the discovery of a large hole inside a tree caught the attention of the squad suggested to be a possible source of SCP-XXXX-1. Three corpses from the graveyard were recovered. Study of the corpses was inconclusive.]
[After establishment of a secondary perimeter around SCP-XXXX, The previous Mobile Task Force Beta-7 units were sent into SCP-XXXX for exploration of the hole [henceforth referred to as SCP-XXXX-3] discovered during body recovery from the graveyard location. Before Beta-7 was sent in, a surface recovery drone named “Ross” was sent to give a proper view of the inside of SCP-XXXX-3. Following this, multiple SCP-XXXX-1’s began attacking the drone, heavily damaging its structure. Ross was considered destroyed and MTF Beta-7 was sent in shortly after. Each member of Beta-7 was equipped with an M4 Rifle and sufficient supplies to last a week inside SCP-XXXX-3. Squad member Marco specifically was given an M60 and a pair of wire cutters along with 300 rounds of 5.56 ammunition. Members Polar and Marco were given a body camera to record the expedition. The expedition went as follows:
The camera perspective is currently from squad member Polar’s helmet. There is bumpy camera feed as the squad makes their way into SCP-XXXX-3. The interior of SCP-XXXX-3 is illuminated by large unknown types of glowing fungus along with various types of common cave formations. Squad member Ice points out a lack of SCP-XXXX-1 as they go inside the entrance of SCP-XXXX-3. Static on the camera increases as they descend further into SCP-XXXX-3. The squad is currently 10 meters below the surface of SCP-XXXX. As the squad progresses, Baker comments on the caves path going down like a spiral staircase, the squad remains silent.
The squad persists for 5 more meters before the visuals on Polars camera show the path splitting in two directions horizontally. No end to the path in either directions can be seen. They are currently 45 meters below the surface of SCP-XXXX. The walls fungus appears to dim further as it spreads down the path, large pulsating blue vines can be seen covering the walls. Squad member Cole states how the vines are “beating like hearts.” The squad is shown to be visually distressed by Coles remark. Commander Baker asks supervising researchers which path they should take. They are told to descend left and do so for another 128 meters (173 meters below the surface of SCP-XXXX in total.) before camera feed suddenly cuts out. A roaring childlike scream and shots can be heard before audio cuts out as well.
11 hours pass before video feed picks up again. The feed is visually scruffy, but audio can be heard clearly. What is assumed to be a large pulsating heart can be seen on the video feed, but visual quality is too low to examine clearly. 30 seconds pass before video quality picks up to its regular level. The heart can be seen for multiple seconds before a figure picks up the camera.
What appears to be a human skeleton covered in blue fungal growths is walking with the camera. The skeleton walks into another room before examining the camera and tossing it aside. A male can be seen covered by the pulsating blue growths. The camera quality begins to drop but picks up again. Shortly after, unintelligible sounds begin coming from the male, who appears to be Beta-7 member Polar. Multiple instances of the skeletons surround him before another approaches with a large dagger of unknown material.
Visual quality drops again as the camera falls to its side. The skeleton with the knife decapitates Polar. Rather than falling off, the head begins to float. The jaw begins to extend and the eyes can be seen to roll back into the skull before the head slowly floats through the roof of the cave. The body begins to sink into the large growth surrounding it. One of the skeletons turns to the camera and video feed terminates. At this point, MTF squad beta was considered MIA with the exception of squad member Polar, who is considered KIA.]

[Immediately after the events from SCP-XXXX-A2, a secondary squad of 12 were assembled from Beta-7. The squad was briefed on the situation of SCP-XXXX-3 and separated into two divisions. Division one was sent for the further exploration of SCP-XXXX-3 [see SCP-XXXX-B2] after evacuation of the previous squad. Division two was sent for additional assistance in recovery of the previous Beta-7 squad. Each member of the current Beta-7 divisions were equipped with a SCAR-H CQC and a longer range body camera. The expedition went as follows:
Beta-7 successfully made it into SCP-XXXX-3 without incident. All cameras show visual distortion as they enter SCP-XXXX-3. Around 12 meters into SCP-XXXX-3, a visual difference in the walls vines can be seen. Not only were the vines pulsing more frequently, but the tint had changed to be a more reddish-blue. Static on cameras increase again, but visual quality is still high enough to form a clear image. The squads persist for another 33 meters before coming across the same horizontal path the previous squad had lost contact in. Supervising researchers notify the current squads commanders of their location before the squads split in two different directions. [See SCP-XXXX-B2 for Division Two log]
Division one continues for another 127 meters before the same childlike scream can be heard. Camera and audio do not seem to be effected as they were in SCP-XXXX-A2. The squad can be seen shaking as the ground begins to tremble. The squad commander initiates a free-fire state as large steadily paced footsteps can be heard. Suddenly, what appears to be the skeleton of an unidentified giant lizard with electric-like glowing blue eyes can be seen emerging from the illuminated light of the wall fungus. Another giant childlike scream can be heard along with many gunshots. Multiple mushroom-like growths can be seen along the back of the skeleton, along with many bullet holes presumably from the previous MTF squad.
The creature began screaming as it charged towards the squad. It falls and gets up again. This process continues for multiple minutes. But the creature eventually falls Inanimate. It starts disintegrating into dust. The squad stays still for 6 minutes waiting to see if additional instances of the lizards come before continuing. They descend another 104 meters (264 meters in total) before coming across a large room containing what appears to be a dilapidated lab. Heavy machinery can be seen on different ends of the room. Mummified body parts liter the floor and are strewn covering every inch of the room.
A heavy iron door on the other side of the room begins to open, the entire squad can be seen to aim at the door. A human figure can be seen to exit slowly through the door with their hands in the air. It is previous Beta-7 squad captain Baker. He says “friendly, friendly.” before slowly sitting on the floor. He’s visually shaken and covered from head to toe with a blue liquid. The squad commander gives orders to cover the perimeter. He kneels by Commander Baker and says: “Where are the others?” Baker is silent for a moment before replying: “I-”[he cradles his head in his hands] “They’re all dead. They’re all around you.” The Commander looks around. Replying: “C’mon, we’re getting you out of here” holding his hand out and helping Baker to his feet.
Multiple screeching sounds can be heard from the iron door. Baker shouts: “We’ve gotta go, now!” The entire squad flocks through the entrance and begin the track to the way out. The screaming dwindles as they head up the path they had taken. Commander baker is seen mumbling incoherently as they approach the exit of SCP-XXXX-3. All members of Beta-7 Division 1 emerge from the cave unharmed and successfully make it outside of the SCP-XXXX perimeter. Commander Baker is interviewed shortly after.]

[Interview Log SCP-XXXX-1:
Interviewer: Dr. ██████
Interviewed: Capt. Baker
Squad Beta-7 survivor interview
<Begin Log>
Capt. Baker: [Clears throat] I ,uh, I’m glad you guys found me. In that goddamn hole.
Dr. ██████: Can you describe what happened after the cameras lost connection, please?
Capt. Baker: Oh, yeah, sorry. You guys know the beginning, or I think so anyways. Me and my squad we’re assigned to go into that stupid fuckin’ hole. [Capt. Baker begins chuckling] We walked for what seemed like hours. Ah, hours. [Capt. Baker begins slamming his hands on the interview table]
Dr. XXXXX: [pause] Look, I know you’ve been through a lot, but describe the mission, please. We need as many details on this as we can get so future expeditions don’t suffer the same fate.
Capt. Baker: [long pause] We we’re.. We were walking.. And we heard a scream. Not like- like a normal scream. It was like a kid. We didn’t even have time to think about it though. Because Ice started screaming about some eyes in the distance. We all turned and saw them too. These big, blue eyes. But uh, yeah, I told the squad to free-fire and the second Marco started spraying his M60 whatever it was came charging at us. It started screaming too, so I know it wasn’t the source of the child’s scream. It uh. [Baker attempts to slam his head on the table but is held back by a security officer in the interview room]
Dr. ██████: Look, you’ll be able to freak out about all of this in a little bit. Right now, we just need information. Please, continue.
Capt. Baker: [pause] The thing went after Marco first, poor motherf██r. It picked him up and just started thrashing him around. I lost it when it started [data expunged] him everywhere. It was so focused on him that the rest of us managed to slip by. We saw a big iron door behind it, there was nowhere else to go so we just ran through. There was- Some sort of lab or something I- I don’t know. I didn’t get too good of a look because Ice just turned around and started sprayin’ bullets into the thing. He was screaming the whole time. I shouted at him to cease fire, but through his screams and the bullets firing he obviously didn’t hear me. There were some wooden tables in the room. I could hear that thing charging back so me and Polar slid under one. We got under just in time, but no one else did. [Pause] Ice was still loading shots into that thing. Tuff’ son-of-a-bitch. The thing just jumped right on top of him. His legs were smashed everywhere, somehow he was still alive. He shouted: “Die you piece of shit” before it [data expunged] all over the place, it wasn’t as bad as Marco, but his head went all the way across the room. [Baker clears his throat] I uh, I don’t think I can go on doc.
Dr. ██████: You will be eligible for a break once the interview is over. I need details.
Capt. Baker: Fuck it, [Bakers sniffs and wipes a tear away from his eye] You know.. You go through this shit knowing these people- they just- Gone. [baker rests his head in his hands] Shit. The exact same thing happened to everyone else, everyone except Polar.
Dr.██████ : [Data Expunged]?
Capt. Baker: Yeah, that. I never used to believe that whole gag about internal organs being able to wrap around the world two times. Now I do. [pause] I don’t think the thing saw me or Polar ‘cause it just started walking off like nothing had even happened. I remember sitting under the table for a while with Polar. He wanted to get up, I told him not to, but at this point we were both hysterical and I didn’t have the will to stop him. When he got up the thing didn’t come back, he started telling me about how the equipment in the lab looked like it was recently used and how there were more body parts in here than just our squad. It was hard to tell though, because of all the blood n’ shit. There was another big door on the other side of the room, the one I was found in. When he opened it the door made a giant creaking sound. I guess it was REALLY loud, because we heard shuffling from the other room. At first it wasn’t very noticable. But then a bunch of weird fuckin skeletons started running through the door. Polar started mowing them down and shouted for me to help. [pause] I- I don’t know why I didn’t help. [pause] I just couldn’t.
Dr.██████: Continue.
Capt. Baker: There were too many of them for him to handle. They just started swarming around him. They saw me, too. They didn’t attack us though. They were just holding us. They picked us up off the ground, not all of them though, some of them were picking up bones and just staring at the walls. They took us down.. I’d say another 40 meters before the walls started acting crazy. I mean, the walls were always crazy. But these ones were different, very red and beating like a heart, and I think they knew it. The ones with bones just started sticking them in the walls. The walls started.. consuming them? I think? The skeletons would put the bones inside. I don’t know what happened inside of the wall but everytime they put an amount in a new skeleton would come out. Every time a new one came out they too would start putting bones on the walls. I don’t- I don’t know how long it continued for but eventually they started to move on. They ended up dropping me off in a man sized hole on the side of a wall, I have no idea what happened to Polar.
Dr.██████ : We are aware of the status of Corporal Polar, you will have the option to see a status report on the entire squad once this interview is over. You mention a secondary hole, though, can you tell me what happened there?
Capt. Baker: The hole lead to some sort of meat freezer, there was a man in there too. Not a skeleton though, a normal man. He was in a cloak. The rest is fuzzy. All I remember after that is waking up behind that door in the lab, covered in blood. That’s when the other Beta-7 members found me.
Dr. ██████ : Alright, I think we’re done here. You are free to go. [A door can be heard slamming shut as Capt. Baker leaves]
Dr. ██████ : For the record, I advise no further exploration of SCP-XXXX-3 or SCP-XXXX. We should terminate this thing as soon as possible.
