A hose faucet after being affected by SCP-5234
Item #: SCP-5234
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5234 is to be contained within a thick, small plastic container. All personnel who transport or interact with SCP-5234 should wear a hazmat suit made of inorganic material, excluding metals. The container should not be opened unless the object is needed for testing, requires transport to a new container, or needs to be shortened. There should be no metallic substances located within a ten-meter radius, and in the event of transport between facilities, the object should be carried in a plastic container half a meter thick, and the carriers should wear the aforementioned hazmat suit.
In the event of a containment breach, it is recommended that all surrounding plant life be killed. The most efficient way discovered is to have SCP-073 anticipate the travel of SCP-5234 and move ahead of him, killing all plant life. Once SCP-5234 has been reduced to a length of at most 10 centimeters, it is recommended that a crew member in the specially designed hazmat suit transport SCP-5234 back into its case. This length can be reduced by having SCP-5234 within a 5-meter radius of any metal, though this metal will often rust beyond repair. In case of emergency, SCP-5234 can be cut with a knife made of inorganic rocks or other similar materials (still no metal), and the segment separate from the nozzle can be burnt.
Description: SCP-5234 resembles the nozzle of a common garden hose at its shortest length, but can expand and will most often be seen around 10 centimeters long. The "hose" will grow indefinitely, but its rate of growth differs depending on the environment. SCP-5234 grows at an extremely rapid pace when near organic material, live and dead. However, SCP-5234 does still grow when not around plants, though the rate of growth is much slower.
SCP-5234 has a unique property of rusting any metallic substance within an eight-meter radius. The metal affected by SCP-5234 will rust beyond repair, and SCP-5234 will also shrink at a rate of 1 centimeter every 10 minutes in the presence of metal. This effect also applies to radioactive devices, causing them to explode. When SCP-5234 leaves only the "nozzle", it will still rust any metallic substances within a 5-meter radius.
SCP-5234 cannot move around when it is less than a meter long, but once SCP-5234 reaches this length, it will begin to slither around like a snake. No form of conscience has been recorded, and the “snake” appears to move based on instinct and location only. The “snake” will avoid metals at all costs and will seek out organic materials to rapid it’s growth.
SCP-5234 does not appear to be hostile, and there should be no harm to those interacting with it. Staff should still stay away in the case of a breach or during testing. Tests have resulted in many feeling sick after being nearby for too long, and one iron-deficient Class-D personnel required medical attention. If nearby without the proper suit, it is recommended to consume foods high in iron as soon as possible.
Addendum 1: Discovery
SCP-5234 was found in town name in 00/00/00. After a series of reports of tools rapidly rusting, SCP personnel were dispatched to the location. SCP-5234 was discovered in the backyards of namety name, name name, and namety namety at a length of a lot . After the disaster in which [DATA REDACTED], SCP-5234 was finally relocated to Site 47. All rusted metals were captured and brought to the facility for research purposes.
