Item #: SCP-XXXX (not determined yet. Doesn't really matter in this case)

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept at Weapon and Ammunition Storage Facility 731 at Site-██ in Section E-7 in High-Profile Weapon Storage Locker C-36. Sr. Logistics Officer at said facility will carry the key at all times, which is never to be left in or around the lock to HPWSL C-36. Level 2 security clearance is required for access to Section E-7 of Weapon and Ammunition Storage Facility 731 from now going forward, and Level 2 security clearance plus approval from the Sr. Logistics Officer is required to view or handle SCP-XXXX.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a structurally and mechanically unique M1918A2 Browning Automatic Rifle (B.A.R), characterized by its lack of a charging handle, ironsighting, and its near almost total resistance to all forms of attempted damage or destruction (see Test Log #32251). As of ██/██/2018, security personnel and researchers assigned for Test #32251-B have been successful in damaging the exterior material significantly with a military grade thermic compound procured by senior researchers fashioned out of [REDACTED], specially-produced [REDACTED], and various metal oxides.

SCP-XXXX also exhibits the function of being able to accept any cartridge small enough to be inserted up the magazine well and into the receiver. Additionally, the metal frame (excluding the barrel) and wood furnishings seem to bend with ease without breaking or tearing. This allows the metal near the magazine slot to be fit with any magazine or loading mechanism, including those used by security personnel (see Test Log #32251-A). Possible forays into reproducing the effect or the weapon itself for use for containment security and Mobile Task Forces are being discussed. Despite the ability to receive any form of ammunition or magazine, every test conducted shows evidence that the gun does not jam or misfire. Out of 100,000 rounds shot at 1000 shots/ammo type, 0 of them resulted in a malfunction with the firing mechanism. As mentioned previously, the barrel does not bend like the rest of the gun, yet still exhibits the exceptional force resistance while also projecting the ammunition significantly faster than most B.A.R M1918 models. The bullets also maintain, and in some cases have extrapolated impact force rather than the impact force being dampened from the sheer speed. Shooting chronograph tests measure the muzzle velocity at 2,521 m/s, contrasting the comparatively small average muzzle velocity of the B.A.R M1918A2, that being 805 m/s.

SCP-XXXX was discovered after Sean McCormick, employee of "██████ █████ Gunsmithing" in ██████, Missouri called the local police after discovering of the gun's anomalous properties after coming into possession of it through a transaction reportedly taking place on ██/██/2005 between him and a ██████, Missouri local. After the police call was made, members of Task Force Iota-10 transferred the weapon into possession of the Foundation. Shortly afterwards, three Foundation agents were sent to investigate Sean (see Interview #2137: Sean McCormick). Radiology tests administered to the weapon show it to be around 77 years old, placing it's production time some time shortly after the United States of America entered World War II on the side of the Allied Powers. When further questioned about the sale of the weapon, Sean stated that, quote, "Guy came in and said he was lookin' to sell an old family possession. He 'ust dropped the thing right there on the counter and asked how much I would buy it for. I asked him about it and he said 'is grandpa had served on the Western Front and he wanted to offload the thing". This, coupled with the radiology tests done are possible evidence that the weapon was used in service for some time during the Second World War.

The exterior of SCP-XXXX is in exceptionally good shape for its alleged age, with no signs of oxidization from exposure to the air, wood rot, or superfluous damage like scratches or markings. Material and damage tests show that no damage protection materials are or were ever applied (such as cosmoline or CRC-556). Additionally, the surface has a texture similar to that of chitin which encompasses the entire weapon. It is unknown whether this chitin-like texture is characteristic of the gun's base materials itself (those being wood and steel) or if the texture comes from another material applied on top of the base. As of ██/██/2018, the previously mentioned results of Test #32251-B have found that the chitin-like texture originates from an extremely hard and rigid "shell" not unlike the larval exoskeleton found in certain insects. This evidence could point to SCP-XXXX gaining its anomalous qualities after its production.

SCP-XXXX's ability to accept any type of ammunition or magazine provided, coupled with its exceptional damage resistance uncharacteristic of its assumed materials and its significantly higher muzzle velocity pose it to be one of, if not the most effective firearms ever created.
